What You Missed

#general

Puptilian told a new player, and thus reminded us all, about the command SERVICE SHOW.

Kemli was confused by how you assign certain categories of objects to certain containers and then STOW them. This one always trips me up, too. ReverendCatch (Dreanor/Sensou) mentioned STOW SET. The issue seems to be that STOW will put the item into the default STOW container, where LOOT ROOM will appropriately place the categories types in their set containers. Raelee reminded everyone about STORE which allows you to stow weapons and shields and is integrated with READY/SHEATH/GIRD. Someone needs to ask GM Naos to look into STOW!

GM Quilic offered advice on how to prepare for the night’s kick-off storyline event. “Recommendations: Be spelled up, get there a little early if you can, have a plan for what your character wants to accomplish tomorrow night. For those who haven’t participated before… You’ll likely be offered the chance to play your character in ways you haven’t before. Not necessarily tomorrow night, in the heat of things, but keep in mind what your character is tryin to accomplish. Because it might just matter. Clues will be dropped in the time leading up to the actual kickoff, to potentially tip people off as far as what to expect. Expect two new puzzles (of a sort) to show themselves tomorrow night, as well. Should be fun!”

GM Quilic later added,

“Protips: A) MYCHAR is your friend. Use it. B) Play your character as true to their nature as you can. I’ll play along, or correct you if I need to. C) IF there are to be invasions, Western Harbor are the low-level things, out the South Gate are the mid-level things, and Eastern Harbor are the capped+ things D) Don’t assume that everyone sees/hears the same things. This is (very) frequently not the case. Play your character. What would S/He do if they heard or saw whatever? E) I adore puzzles. There will be some teased during QST, and they’re essentially side quests. Solve the puzzle, get to do something cool (like kill Nazhor!) *Kill

Side note about invasions: If you’re deliberately underhunting and just massacring everything that’s intended for lower-level folks, bad things “can” happen.

Oh, and F) We’re starting off a little slow tonight. Nothing too crazy, as people get used to how I do things (and to allow for out of town folk). About an hour or so tonight, but expect plenty to talk about after the fact and going forward. G) There’ll always be a “OK, we’re done for tonight” round of messaging. It’ll be different for this chapter, but it’ll be pretty clear, so you’ll know when I’m finished.

But yeah, if/when invasion time comes, Southern gates are usually 40-65 or so. And nobody’s going to get harassed if they’re 80-ish and hunting down there (because the capped+ stuff is too high for them). But if we have capped people rolling through the lowbie critters in a mob, those people are going to have a “bad time”.

There’s lots of room to play with, if you’re willing to be flexible. The real fun starts AFTER tonight’s QST, to be honest. That’s when things really open up for you guys. That’s your opportunity to message me and say, “Hey, my character noticed X, and would like to talk to Y about it, quietly”… for example.”

In a quick recap of the storyline so far, GM Quilic said, “The short, short version: Bad guy has been trying to tear down the walls of reality and admit big ugly hairy things.” The walls are alternate realities.

As part of The Nazhor Chronicles, Flockmaster Nehor shared, “A scratchy, avian voice sounds in your ear, ‘Correspondence has faded, and you must forge forth on your own. I leave you one final piece of the puzzle…’ As the voice fades, bloody lines appear in the air before you, forming jagged characters, ‘G8L21T8 S5 R19 M15 N15I5. S9H 23L18P19 I5N1R14!’ The characters hover for a long moment, then fade completely away” then “Your breath catches in your throat as you hear a strained voice at the edge of your hearing. Discordant and throaty, the voice is nearly indecipherable, but a single word can be discerned: ‘THROUGH’.” then “Your vision blurs, and an indistinct form rises up before you. None of its features can be seen beneath the darkness of its hood, but it reaches a hand for you, and you can hear a throaty, pained voice growl, “Let me through. I can make it worth your while. I can give you whatever-“. The voice is cut off as your vision clears, and there’s no trace of the form.”

GM Quilic showcased how Imperial-Drake-added-Meek Elspie has grown in her powers since becoming one of the meek, “Elspie stares at the oculoth coldly, her jaw set. With a snarl, she brings her fists together, then jerks them apart. The space between the parting knuckles shimmers as a ragged portal is torn in the space before her! The oculoth elongates suddenly, stretching completely into a thin line that arrows through the jagged tear in reality, vanishing into it in moments! The portal winks closed behind the oculoth, as if it had never existed.” Leafiara shared the log from her perspective.

GM Quilic spoke a little about what is coming up, “Invasion nights are more chaotic than most on my end. Four monitors spamming text. But I’ll check the logs, for MYCHARS in particular. Sunday will be no combat, lots of chances for RP. One of the many reasons I’m not a huge fan of invasion nights. I don’t do them often”

#mechanics

Rolfard stated he had an idea about CMAN DIVERT (open) that would AOE all the creatures to fan out.

cřυχσρнîм asked, “Is there any chance of making Sanctified items blessable, even if it’s kinda redundant? That seems to hose up a lot of mechanics, for example a warrior not being able to use white ora at all against the undead, since it can’t be blessed.” He added, “Specifically, it seems a little silly that white ora can only be used against undead by paladins or clerics, especially since it the Iasha scrips were recently expanded to allow unlocks for other classes to get verb usage (which is AWESOME)…”

Leafiara ran a Fun Facts Friday with Leafi. The player opened doors 1, 8, and L. Future Fun Facts Fridays may be less obscure and more about Did You Know? I’m in full support.

Rolfard reminded people that you can level up creatures by letting them kill you and added, “Fun fact, you can use animate dead with a vauable enough gem to make a level 100 kobold.”

zeph asked, “/ask any update on whether more playershops will be released? i failed to win any of the raffles”

#festivals-and-events

Tovklar suggested a “boost bundle that gave the benefits of paying for a couple $ more than a subscription for the month would probably work.” for F2P.

Asher asked, “For FashionCon coming up, are there articles on the wiki that talk about specific types of clothing aside from the Elanthian Vogue?” Avawren answered links to the GS Wiki:  World Costume for Theatric Productions, Clothing of the Lassaran – A Study of Transitional Culture, and Aelotian style.

Questions of the Day

“How fleshed out is your character’s backstory? Did it come to you as you played or did you start playing with the idea/ concept already completed? Is it a general idea or have you written down pages with of backstory information?” [GM Xeraphina]

“Does anyone else ever get flack about speaking their characters “native” language in public? I mean, I have, and I wonder if I’m just sensitive to it. Basically, like the whole “This is Murica. We speak English here” thing.” [Gs4Lass]

“Is your character self-sufficient in their lifestyle, or do they rely on servants, slaves, etc, to do daily necessities, like prepare food, purchase (or forage/hunt/steal for) ingredients, clean clothes, etc?” [Alisaire]

“Do you RP any of this in any way, either self sufficiency or servitude (or theft/mooching)?” [Alisaire]

“How much do you roleplay about the time of day, or current seasonal changes? Are there IC quirks that you’ve had to work through in order to justify playing a certain way at a certain time of day/year?” [Alisaire]

“What is your dream-alteration for your character currently, to help complete their image or background? Scar, tattoo, weird birthmark, a signet ring to prove they were once a member of the nobility, etc?” [Nimaera]

“What does your character’s choice in clothing/armor/accessories say about them? And what is it -intended- to say about them?” [Nimaera]

Other

Arianiss asked some questions about elven age ranges. Xorus mentioned how an elf in her 30s in the official documents was considered a child. Arianiss asked if it was possible to get custom age alters. It isn’t – yet. He also asked if elven airships are brand new or not and Xorus said they’d been around thousands of years.

Nimaera spawned a discussion on half-elves which also included bits about stereotypes, oppression, and racism across different races.

GM Valyrka explained that the Mirror speaks even when holding an informal event and when talking to her handmaidens. She expects elves to speak to her in elven during private sessions or when talking directly to her. “She just recognizes that other races do live in her town and when she has something everyone should hear they should hear it”

Paiselie wished that we had a weather command, which spawned a storm of comments wishing the same. Pun intended, of course. Avawren went dangerous, ” Oh man. It would never fly but I’d love to see weather you have to take shelter from somtimes – kind of like an invasion. Wind storms that knock you over, or lightning storms that zap you”

Avawren mused about Arkati-roleplay when she says, “Avawren, ICly, would rather depart than accept a raise from clerics of certain Arkati, but I seriously struggle with the conflict of ‘Yeah I know you came to drag me back to town and you expect the exp from raising me, but get your luukosian hands away from my soul, thanks.'” Juspera responded that the player’s character screams and moans but doesn’t depart.

Leafiara continued the conversation from yesterday about nation vs nation conflict and how it is handled.

Expert Puzzlesolver Qualeric asked, “inspired by question I saw in other chat, will there be any unlock certs for the magic slings at the coming DR?”
