Subj: Recap of the Southron Wastes mission and aftermath

I’ve probably missed a ton since Leafi spent much of the time running back and forth between TSC and Voln raising the dead, so anyone who was on the battlefield, especially on the other side of the portal where she only stayed briefly, can fill in gaps.

-Pyalasar successfully opened the portal and a large group of Landing defenders made it to the wastes, where they were besieged by all manners of creatures both natural and demonic. The primals (primitive occuloths) were their targets and they collected a great number of vials of ebon-swirled blood from them.

-Many of the weaker natural creatures from the wastes exited the portal and assaulted the Landing, most notably iguanoid soldiers and warriors–a species whose name was noted earlier on some stray vials left behind by the Blameless in the freed Hendoran outpost. Rubi and Rhayveign, if not others, collected blood samples from the iguanoids.

-From what I understand, pretty much every player character who went to the wastes died! Fun!

-Possibly related, the seal on the coffin was damaged during the mission and Larsya aged further.

-Now my knowledge gap… I’m guessing the group stayed at the wastes fighting and fighting until they were convinced they’d collected enough blood. Don’t know what else happened over there.

-At last they returned and closed the portal, then headed back into the Outpost and Brieson retired for the night.

(all player-driven RP after this sentence)

-After everyone was back, dozens of samples of the ebon-swirled blood were distributed to alchemists and researchers, such as Raelee, Thailmore, Shinann, Evia, Cruxophim, Rhayveign, and Leafiara. Using the alchemy formulas they found left behind at the Outpost, alchemists of all professions will distill much of that blood into pure everblood essence and then empath and sorcerer alchemists will further process that to create vials of tar-like black salve, along with support from anyone who can forage the salve’s other ingredients. The group also decided to leave some of the ebon-swirled blood untouched in case they need it for any reason.

-Thailmore in particular already started working that very night/morning, producing several samples of everblood essence and even the final product, the black salve. Leafiara mentioned her idle hope that the color of the salve isn’t coincidence and that it’s somehow the cause of the black veins. (OOC: I’m surprised I’ve never seen anyone else bring this up, especially since the black salve isn’t as explicitly named as “everblood essence” and it’s the perfect time to speculate. Maybe others have mentioned it when I’m not around, though, especially three nights ago when I was late to make it there.)

-Everyone regrets that Larsya was harmed, but representing the spectrum of reactions are Magister Raelee, who (at least based solely on what she says) seems to have no doubt that Larsya’s aging can be reversed, and Mayor Puptilian, who wasn’t around when this plan was formed and believes there must have been a better option. Leafiara played diplomat, saying the group went with the plan that at least had a better chance of leaving Larsya unharmed; Lylia was more forward and asked Pup if he believed he knew more about the risks than Brieson, then said that if he didn’t then he shouldn’t blame himself for being away and that this wasn’t under his control or his responsibility.

-Shinann expressed concern about the Baron’s reaction and that he might be driven mad; Hapenlok selflessly volunteered to take the blame for her condition.

Here’s some good news courtesy of Stormyrain’s loresinging: we have a tool to fight the Blameless!

Speaking to you, Stormyrain says, “Your song swirls around the tar-like black salve revealing it to contain a concoction that, once applied to a weapon, will render Blameless Crusaders mortal.”

Now to explain how we got this, since I got some questions in the game that made very clear how not everyone has been there to see everything, I’ll retrace everything in one neat post.

1-3 days before going to the Wastes, we had a meeting with Lord Brieson where he distributed copies of two alchemy recipes left behind at the Hendoran Outpost:

A hastily-scrawled paper scrap

The scrap reads:

Some purified everblood essence

Add vial of ebon-swirled blood (<— this is what we would later collect during the mission and it’s why Larsya was put at risk since we didn’t see any other viable way to get it)
Distill using an alembic

A blood-stained vellum page

The page reads:
A vial of tar-like black salve
Add water
Add ground black toadstool
Add mashed white baneberry
Simmer
Add purified everblood essence (<— from the above recipe, so this recipe also goes back to collecting the demon blood)
Chant Wither
The other side reads:
A vial of tar-like black salve
Add water
Add ground black toadstool
Add mashed white baneberry
Simmer
Add purified everblood essence
Chant Disintegrate

So any rank 15 or more alchemist can make the purified everblood essence, but it takes an empath or a sorcerer to produce the tar-like black salve. We don’t have endless amounts of black salve since we don’t have endless ebon-swirled blood to start off with, but Leafi did hand out 15 vials of the salve to various people–among them Rubi, Areigha, Tolan, Cruxophim, Stormyrain, and Ephya–and she still has two vials left over herself.

Additionally, after Stormy confirmed that the purified everblood essence in and of itself doesn’t do anything, Leafi turned her stockpile of that over to Cruxophim to make more salve. So one way or another it should get into the good hands of powerful fighters or back to Lord Brieson.

To Leafi’s chagrin, that still leaves our defenders with no clear idea of how to cure the black veins, but it’s still progress on another important battlefield!

Just as a note… Raelee currently has 5-6 vials of the salve on her that have not yet been distributed. She also still has a big pile of the distilled everblood essence if an alchemizing sorcerer or empath wants them.

Signed,
Raelee and her Strings

>Speaking to Zyllah, Alyias says, “See? Raelee knows all.”

If anyone wants to apply some of this stuff to one of Madmountan’s weapons, he will gladly crush blameless.

I managed to procure (12) of the ebon-swirled blood, and have since distilled it, procured the other ingredients, and produced via sorceress alchemy a total of (12) vials of tar-like black salve.

These I will donate to the Gryphons for distribution.
