in paid-events CategoryHey everyone, I wanted to communicate and be as transparent as I can be about the racing system I’ve been working on for Rumor Woods. Consider this sort of a “dev notes” thread to understand some of the thought process.
First, we’ve decided to leave jousting on, so for those that don’t want to try anything new and want it all to be the same, you don’t have to worry about this update at all. When I let the cat out of the bag with the raikhen conversion (coming tonight or tomorrow), there were quite a few things said to me in that thread or privately that really stuck out. “Why spend time doing this when what we have works?” Some people were very polite about it, but some people kind of got through my thick, calloused skin and it got to me.
My original goal was to make the racing similar to jousting because I didn’t want there to be much change involved. This is when the racing was replacing jousting for just this year. But this is really a waste of time. Reskinning the same thing isn’t worth the effort, even if it’s just flavor. So I went back to the drawing board and wanted to make something new. In GS, we obviously have to simulate racing via text vs just typing the directionals as fast as possible. So the race would be something like the Bank Heist where you’re not actually moving around. The other thing is, because this would be part of the pay event, we don’t want you racing against other players, because that would be terrible to only allow one player to win.
I’m still working on this, and I’m struggling a bit to make it interesting enough to want to run it. But I will state some of the concepts I have in place.
You will only race once total.
The price of a race will be 2500 SimuCoins, you will be awarded 7,500 raikhen. You cannot repeat this.
Everyone’s score will personally be tracked and there will be a top 3 leaderboard.
There will be other awards TBA.The idea is that this will be an easy way to get some spending raikhen without having to grind things out. You can race once per character. There would be some competition with the leaderboard without it costing anyone a loss/raikhen.
The mechanics are will being hammered out. If I don’t feel confident with it, I may pull the plug. I will announce this next week if that’s the case.
