FISHING INFO: PM Wyrom talks about the fishing system on Discord. Read over starting with the message linked below for a bit more understanding and maybe a tip or two. My biggest take-away? Rare fish are … rare.

The Fishing System

The fishing system is pretty complex. A lot goes into it. Time of day, season, finding a good spot determined by the system, and a few other things are the biggest factors. You need to pretty much max out the bonuses in each spot to get rare fish.

I think I talked to Beldannon about this at a SimuCon years ago, but for seasons, apparently the best season to fish is Spring (March, April, and May). The worst is Winter (December, January, and February). The way this system was created, climate/lack of 4 seasons doesn’t play a role at all.

Lures have bonuses depending if you’re using the right lure for the right depth. I can check this out if someone registers some lures and just tag me with the character you did it on.

If you find a “good spot” you can get a bonus, otherwise, it’s random. Super late and early morning have bonuses. The system uses Eastern time here and might not account for Daylight Savings. But on standard time, it’s 11pm to 2am and 5am to 9am. This part of the system I do think was intended to remain a mystery so that players test, but given we’re 18 years into this system existing and we’re having this conversation, my guess is no amount of testing will be solving this.

After all that, there is then a random roll. It’s basically a 1d100, and you’re going to need a 100 I think (I’ll check once I see the lure bonuses people have in their inventory).

There are also “good spots” out there. I don’t think EG had it. But out there, somewhere in the game, there are areas that are better than others. Lobstering also shares this.
