GM Naijin: # Targeting and Attack Verb QoL Updates
Hey all,
There will be no document because this is not a design proposal, but will be coming to the game sometime in the future. An official announcement will be posted when it’s live. Attack verbs and targeting are being updated for consistency across systems and to reduce complexity. The goal here is to mimic the Unarmed Combat System (UCS) where possible.
Here’s a list of the changes coming:
* Verbs will be updated to support {VERB} [target] [location] options, similar to how UCS works, e.g., JAB THIRD KOBOLD HEAD or JAB HEAD to attack your existing target. Verbs will follow the TARGET and AIM settings accordingly.
* AMBUSH will require being hidden or invisible to use. This change includes temporary OOC messaging indicating the AMBUSH verb will not be usable unless hidden or invisible.
* Open aiming will be folded directly into the ATTACK verb. The goal here is to provide clarity around open aiming and ambushing.
* You will no longer have to specify left or right when targeting limbs or eyes, and omitting left/right will default to right. You may override this behavior by specifying left/right.
* Unaimed AMBUSHes and WAYLAYs will no longer add to roundtime or reduce the Damage Severity Weighting (DSW) of the attack. Note: missing an aimed location will continue to halve the DSW bonus.
* Messaging will be updated to indicate making a precise (aimed) or regular (existing) attack similar to how UCS messages. This should clarify attacks and make things a bit simpler to understand.
