Wecome to the inaugural Discord Digest! In this space, we at the TownCrier will attempt to provide a daily digest of select conversations at the Official GemStone IV Discord server from 10 pm EST the night previous to 10 pm EST the night of. Not all conversations will be reported and we will endeavor to utilize a neutral tone (although our unique senses of humor may show through).
Links may go to the Official Discord post itself, to the GemStone IV Wiki, or other useful and relevant places. In the case of Discord links, those links will send you to the Discord web interface.
This digest record was compiled by the player of Qafziel Nalfein/Darcena Wolf-Valslayer.

Save-It-For-Later Experience or Spells
LostRanger proposed an idea similar to Long-term Experience where individuals could save up a “bucket” of experience (the standard field experience pool which ranges from clear as a bell to completely saturated) and deliberately trigger it at a later date. LostRanger explained that it would be beneficial when roleplaying with a clear experience pool to be able to trigger saved experience to absorb. The idea differs from long-term experience in that with long-term experience, you do not absorb anything while your pool is empty. The player acknowledged that there may be issues involving people saving up their experience and then resting afk at a table and periodically just triggering the pool.
Additional thoughts:
-
- Absorption pauses similar to enhancive pauses, but why that would be functional was not described. [ReverendCatch (Dreanor/Ensou) and HebrewToYou]
- A physical item such as an orb gem that you store the experience in until you break it. (Anyone else thinking of a Pensieve-inspired object?) [ReverendCatch]
- Remotely turn in bounties, effective presumably if a person had a completed bounty but didn’t want to get up and leave the roleplay [LostRanger]
- Trigger an effect to save all experience above saturated that you could dump back into your experience pool later [LostRanger]
- Functionality to pause all spell effects to resume upon trigger later, could even cost some of the duration (i.e. 15-30 minutes removed) upon resumption [LostRanger]

Ambie’s Fishies
GM Quilic announces that anyone who was given a fithie by the delightful lisping Ambie during Ebon Gate 2018 should take a look at it. The analyze reveals that the fish now goes from four tiers to six tiers and multiple portions of the fish are now able to be altered such as its color, size, eyes, and sack closure. As a reminder – only the original person who was given a fishie can unlock it in the future to higher tiers! Quilic hints that there also might be more things to see: “They got a pretty major facelift. It’ll be interesting to see as things come to light.”
#mechanics
- LostRanger requested a way to TOSS
back after catching one using the fishing system. - Rogue Chat: HebrewToYou gives rogues some tips on armor and CMANs, discussion ensues on the incentive players have to use NPC locksmiths instead of character locksmiths, and just general chat about the (mostly unhappy, it seems) state of rogue skills and CMANs.
- Game Balance – Pay vs Innate: HebrewToYou instigated a short conversation on what should be innately available in the game versus available via pay events using the Compartmentalized Quiver as the launching point.
- Enhancives: On a roll, HebrewToYou then began a conversation on enhancives.
- Spellburst: In reply to something Ondreian mentioned in the above rogue chat, Leafiara wonders about the purpose of Spellburst. In the conversation, LostRanger mentions a mechanic from other games: “Long-term self-cast buffs are permanent (until stopped/dispelled) with just one cast, but while active your max mana is reduced.”
- Foraging: Players discuss the foraging system and why FarFigNewGut finds it silly.
#scripting
- Ondreian links Lich on GitHub for those who are interested. https://github.com/matt-lowe/Lich
#wiki-talk
- GM Tivvy states that wiki user accounts should default to have editor permissions and if some reason that isn’t true for your account (and you don’t know why), you should message her or e-mail gs4-wiki@play.net.
#simucon
- Naamit invites anyone going to CONvergence in Minnesota to let her know for the potential to meet up.
#festivals-and-events
- GM Valyrka offers her congratulations to the players and characters who received recognition on Sunday at the Ta’Illistim court proceedings for their efforts in regards to the Valley of Gold peace accords. This includes Askip, Felarion, Menos, Sweetsin, and Talinvor who received roses on ribbons and Rohese, Silima, and Ysaeril who received an alteration to their signet crests to have an elven jewel of honor inside. Check out The Layman Guide to Elven Heraldry for more information on the honors.
- GM Xeraphina announced that Handmaiden Orelwen would be at the Ta’Illistim Green at 9pm on that same day (Sunday, June 30) and players later stated they enjoyed the get-together.
#roleplay-in-elanthia
- Players Avaia, Traiva, GK!, Xilona, Flockmaster Nehor, Avawren, Lylia, Chamalice, Rohese, Gavrien, and Naamit continue a conversation regarding the etiquette in asking for help such as spells, healing, or raising in public spaces started by Avaia earlier on Saturday.
- Rohese asks players for their in-character responses to the prompt “Summer is….” for the next edition of Elanthian Vogue.
- GK! discusses the Ivasian temple in Vipershroud, which several people concur is very neat. I see a field trip in my future.
- Arianiss asks if everyone is aware of the different types of SPEECH PHRASING, which reorders the way in which tones, verbs, and objects are ordered on the user’s side. When you set it, it doesn’t change how your speech looks for others, but instead changes the order of all lines of speech that you see. For example:
- Speaking happily in Elven to an iron door, Someone says, “This is a test message.” [Standard]
- Someone says, speaking happily in Elven to an iron door, “This is a test message.” [Name-first]
- Someone says, “This is a test message.” (happily, in Elven, to an iron door) [Parentheses]
- GM Valyrka hilarioiusly points out that during the aforementioned Ta’Illistim formal court proceedings, Murstyr was holding two gowns in his hands. Mass speculation may be occurring about the relationship between Argent Mirror Myasara and Murstyr over this oops.
- Arianiss asks for more MOVEMENT styles. including WALK. Nimaera mentions that DragonRealms had over 20 different walk styles including saunter. Other options noted, whether joking or not, included, amble, creep, backflip, dart, dash, float ominously, hobble, jog, lurch, meander, pace, pad, plod, prowl, ramble, rush, saunter, scamper, scramble, scurry, shimmy, stagger, stalk, stroll, strut, stump, swagger, wander, wiggle [Naamit, GM Naos, Leafiara, Nehor, and Darcena], although Naos indicated that they might be a bit of a bear to work with on the GM-side so getting new movement styles added might be problematic.
- Arianiss also asks about the hierarchy of the Ta’Illistim handmaidens and Nick explains that they used to be numbered, but they are no longer numbered and there isn’t a hierarchy.
