In silence this one has searched the libraries of the landing, the holdings of powerful people, and the book halls of Sol Haven….in search of history that seems to be forgotten.
Cleave then to these words. In the year 5098 on the 14th day of Eoantos one called Malwind, Baron of VornavisSo it is recorded in the halls of the landing and in the halls of Sol Haven they say that that in the year 5099 that same Dunrith Malwind did also say “”Since I am unaware of Wehnimer’s Landing existing as an official fief within the Empire, I know of no reason they would be deemed knights of it. They are presently knights errant, knighted by myself and under no obligation to this barony other than to not aid its enemies nor raise arms against it.” It is said in the halls of Sol Haven that the Knights of the North from that time did praise this declaration as wise and comforting in nature.
Clearly one can see as early as 5098 Barons of the Empire did not see the Landing as part of the empire.
In Phoenatos in the year 5103 non other than Eddric Jovery…The Sentinel of The North…did state in the Halls of Sol Haven in full view of an audience “I view the town of Wehnimer’s Landing and it’s environs as a region beyond the boundaries of the Empire and largely left to its own devices and its own defense. I expect to see it in the future as an amiable neighbor to the Northern Marches of the Empire.”
Clearly even the sentinel of the north Jovery did at one time recognize the free nature of the Landing and the environments around the landing.
In the month of Koaratos in the year 5114 a still free and independent landing did vote, when voting was still allowed, to lend aid to the empire, even after being attacked, and went to battle to aid in many corners of the empire. From the Dragon Spine to Mestanir to Idolone and even on the Demon Wall the free people of the north did go and offer assistance.
It was only after this time that the blameless would come north and claim the protectorate did give them authority to enter the town as they wished. Heralds of the lies the servants of the Sun Throne speak to this day.
Know this truth. Rone Wehnimer set the foundation for a free town, outside of the empire and for over 200 years it remained free. History teaches us that those seeking to live free followed him over the years, showing their dedication to the ideals of Freedom by risking safety and life in the wild north over the comforts of a corrupt south. Only after the protectorate was put as a shackle around its neck did the empire start claiming ownership of the north.
Let not their lies ring true, the North was free, the North is free, and the North with the spirit of Rone Wehnimer behind it will remain free.
