Wehnimer’s Militia Recommends Preparations to Defend the Landing

Captain Stormyrain and Captain Shinann have some tips for you to use to prepare for whatever may befall the Landing in the clash that’s about to happen between two Hall of Mages forces. Gold Rings. Gates. Triage. The Raging Thrak. Herbs. Rooftops. Towers. Water. In Buckets. And get those amulets rubbed. Critical information and coordination will happen in ESP, not on Lnet. And here’s the detailed plan:

To the citizens of the town:

Captain Stormyrain and I have discussed town defenses, pending the attack from the group from the Hall of Mages. Since we only have the information given us by Dennet, that is all we can go by. Other than our normal defenses. some which have been damaged or destroyed, we have a few recommendations.

These are the things we have come up with to help us be prepared:

Gold rings set for important points in town and out. Mainly, those areas are the North Dock and dinghy where we will ask for the replacement pylons to be placed, the North Gate and West Gate, where we will have groups to cover those gates, and for the triage areas. This is extremely important, as we will not know if we are going to encounter the darkness we encountered the last attack and this way you will know where you will end up, without stumbling in the darkness.

Triage set up at Voln, Town Square Central, with the fallback for the town square being Thrak’s. We would like to have one cleric and one empath to be in charge of each of these areas, with any backup clerics and empaths in all designated areas. If anyone feels they cannot help with the fighting, it would be helpful if you could be in these areas with herbs, backup magic for the clerics and healers, or any other useful support. Remember, if you do not think you can withstand the forces, it is normally best to stay out of the fighting, as it causes extra work for the clerics and empaths. You can fight from the rooftops, but we were told to expect things from the air to attack us, so be forewarned. If you want to volunteer to manage a triage, see me or Captain Stormyrain as soon as possible.

Since we were told there will probably be a lot of elementals, I would suggest anyone that is fighting or not fighting, fill a disk with water buckets and have it follow you around. While we have no idea if these will be fire elementals, that is the only precaution I can suggest. We are open to other suggestions as to ways of combating other types of damage that other elementals can bring.

Any other suggestions are welcomed. We were told we might somehow have our magic shielded, so anyone that can be prepared for that occurance, please do so.

Thank you,

Shinann Autura
Captain, Wehnimer’s Landing Militia

OOC note: I wanted to discuss this with more people, but we flat don’t have a lot of time to prepare. We just want to get this out there and then take suggestions during the week. If anything major changes, I will make another Notice Post. I hope this was clear enough, because I’m really tired right now, but did want to get the ball rolling. Also, it sounds like I’m telling people not to fight if you know you’re going to die. That is a personal decision. Shinann would argue against you going out, but do what you want to do! This is for everyone and I would never want to imply I’m trying to keep anyone from anything or having fun however or wherever you find it. The notice is from Shinann… this note for fun is from me. Do whatever floats your boat!

An update appears written at the bottom of the notice: Please try to keep your amulets active and all rangers please assist in casting everyone possible, that wishes it, with Whispering Willow. The last attack the magic of our amulets was blocked, but that spell worked. Thank you.

Also, to the townspeople, please see the mayor’s notice posted next to this, for alternative venues of safety, if you so wish.

Please check back here for any further instructions or updates.

OOC note: I’m just going to keep recapping and adding any ideas or updates to the original notice this way, to keep others apprised of the ongoing preparations. I’m also dead (oh boy will we be!) serious about helping with suggestions to add here. If you can’t find Shinann or Stormyrain, just post your suggestion and I’ll add it. I tell you, these wars are work! Peace, love, dove…

~A small note added to the bottom of Shinnan’s notice~

If we fight elementals it may help to fight with a weapon that has the opposite flare. If we can get some cheap weapons eblade with fire and cold flares just in case, it may save a few more lives.

You all sure are doing a lot of work…preparing…planning…all you needed to do was hand over an ancient relic, a blue boy, and one earth mage.

But you went and picked the not so easy road eh? hehehe…

You know you would be so bored if we’d all just decided to hand over the Kestrels and Rodnay to avoid a good battle. 🙂

Looking forward to the mayhem!

The path of least resistance is the path to boredom, where adventure, honour, and glory die with a whimper.

Radeek may venture forth for the big fight, but the last time I had him in for a big battle the lag was so bad I couldn’t even begin to participate, so maybe not. We’ll see.

I’m sure if we did hand these things over, you would find SOME WAY to kill us all.

I still say we hand over Dennet and the talon. We can paint Quinshon blue and hand him over too. 🙂

Pretty sure the blue boy was the tipping point…

If the mayor had cooperated and turned Dennet, the relic and the kid over, Octaven would have just found some other excuse to attack the town, I am sure. (Nazarr doesn’t have a dog in this fight as he doesn’t trust Dennet or like invasions, but he does feel that if you march on a town with an army of mages, send a messenger to threaten the town’s mayor and shroud the town in impenetrable darkness, you are not interested in peaceful negotiations.)

OOC: What is worrying me is the inevitable screen scroll. Fast screen scroll makes me dizzy—to the point that it can induce absence seizures. (Picture mini-blackouts of 30 seconds to 2 minutes.)I can’t stare at the screen for more than a minute during a Dreavening—and there’s a lot more need to focus on the screen during an invasion.

I want to help the town, but I already know that the scroll will be a literal killer, as far as my characters are concerned. So, fellow residents of the Landing, what do I do?

Screen Scroll during combat:

There are a couple lich scripts for that which I use:

;briefcombat
;spellmerge

I sort of close my eyes and make a spell. Take a deep breath, then open them. More than happy to share my techniques with you. I use these both in Reim with groups. Because … UGH.

I’d also add that there tends to be a lot less scroll inside of the defense towers.

… while a lot of them have been kind of destroyed, there are some places with functional tower mechanics. The north/south rooms in the tower inside the outpost have tower defense mechanics and there is a functional ballista on the roof.

Also, the Outpost is cooler than the town anyway.

Personally, I’d rather be there but it makes zero sense if they attack the town. Unless we all get magically transported and have zero say in it!

Also, to the townspeople, please see the mayor’s notice posted next to this, for alternative venues of safety, if you so wish.

Further updates: Roelaren and Dirra have kindly agreed to head the triage teams. Roelaren will be in Town Square Central (to fall back to Thrak’s if needed) and Dirra will be at Voln. Thanks so much to these two ladies for stepping up. We are still in need of a cleric at each location, that does not plan to fight and will be able to stay in one of those areas. Contact Roelaren or Dirra, if you are able to do so. You can also contact me or Captain Stormyrain. Thank you.

I would suggest everyone also have herbs, in the event that magic is blocked. It is always a good idea to carry herbs that stop bleeders and also acantha on you. Step away, if you can, take a couple of bites and go back to fight. I will be fighting and be healing during the fighting, as long as my magic is not blocked.

Another good suggestion was to have weapons e-bladed with different elements, so you are not swinging a weapon that has no effect. You do not have to carry an armory with you; just a backup would be nice.

Please check back here for any further instructions or updates.

______________________________________________________________________________

OOC note: People heading up the triage are basically there to make sure there is always a cleric or empath available. Doesn’t have to be the one heading it up, just try to make sure you have a replacement. Also, if herbs and white flasks can be available, that is great. However, I know we are getting down to the wire. Also, if all three places become compromised, I would like the ones heading up the triages to pick an alternate place(s) and then announce it. It’s going to be very hectic and I am going to leave it up to the triage teams to decide where that/those place(s)is/are and get the word out.

Also, sometimes the empaths that are fighting don’t see everyone that gets hit. Just whisper to us or recite it and we’ll try to get to you. Screen scroll sometimes makes that next to impossible, but it’s the best I can suggest.

One other thing. I know some of you will follow my idea of carrying water buckets in a disk. We tried to test this the other night, but when it says it’s empty (when you are pouring), just drink the last bit and the bucket will vanish (there should be a sip left; we are not sure our tests worked since the town wasn’t on fire… heh). That will cut down on people picking up empty buckets to use on the fires. If you are killed and your disk drops buckets, I am assuming the janitor will get them eventually. I don’t have a good answer for what to do with those and don’t want any unnecessary clutter, but maybe people will grab them to use (if we need them). Kenstrom, you can chime in here, if you like. I don’t want to slow things down with a lot of buckets, but it makes sense IC to be prepared. But, don’t want to do it at the cost of lag or whatever. Going back to get water is time-consuming and also deadly (oh geez… I just typed his trigger word).
