The Song of The Scorched Locket

The bard, obviously distressed at what she was experiencing from the locket, kept singing until both the locket and she were spent. Then she shared it with the assembled group at the table, including the Kestrel children’s Grandmother, Lady Drandea. (Sunday night in the Landing)

I was called to a large group to sing to a locket of some mystery.

The locket has seen better days, its once lustrous brass surface now marred with old scorch marks. The hinge is cracked, making the locket unable to be fully closed. Two portraits reside within, depicting the vague features of two young girls. All other details have been ruined by fire.

Verse 1:
The sounds of chains rustling can be heard, the echo of metal straining almost violently, as if the manacles are being pulled with great activity. Weeping can be heard all around.

Verse 2:
The loud CRACK of a whip echoes through the darkness. Wisps of cerulean light dance about, throwing a pale azure haze along the blood-stained stone floor. A young girl’s cry pierces your ear, her throat rattling with agony.

Verse 3:
Two small, dark forms squirm amidst a churning inferno of blue flames. Metal chains from the wall glow white-hot from the heat and fire. Weeping can be faintly heard, but just barely over the sizzling of flesh and the bubbling of blood.

Verse 4:
A large form barrels into view, pouncing into the wreath of blue flames, howling and grasping for something, for anything. The icy blue fire lashes out like ethereal rhimar whips, searing flesh and face of the large man, who does not seem deterred by the pain, but only howls more as he searches among the burning fire.

OOC – some additional context

For those who missed it, this is how the locket came into our possession. A group led by Cryheart was attempting to track down Scar, who had left various traps strewn throughout the forest. Suddenly:

A dark hooded figure, a chin covered in scars, rushes into view, heading down, pushing past Maylan!

(How rude)

A short while later:

A glint of light flashes on Maylan’s scarlet sweater. The moon catches a brass locket dangling loosely from her sleeve. With the group’s sudden movement, the locket falls to the ground next to Maylan.

So – it’s very likely that Scar lost this item by accident, as the song indicates it is of significant sentimental value to him. It’s an interesting glimpse at his “origin” story, and I’m guessing the two girls depicted might be his daughters? It will be interesting to see how this glimpse into his past will fit into his apparent stalking of the Kestrel family.
