Sir Gregory’s 2 Items, Rumors, and A Burned Flag

Miss Leafiara recaps the events of Monday Night in the Landing as Sir Gregory meets with Landing adventurers over 2 matters, casting aspersions on 2 of our own – Then a Rook burns a flag and makes a gesture. Probably not the gesture you’re hoping for, though…

Subj: The Militia's Investigation and the Rooks' Declaration (recap of last night)
Surprise Monday KST! First a bullet point recap, then a trimmed log. Usually the only comments that get in come from either GM NPCs or PC comments that are directly needed for context, but I also put in a militia interaction that seemed big and some of the night-closing discussion of plot points regarding the Rooks and Dennet in case anyone has forgotten them.

* The Hendoran knight, Gregory, informs that the outpost soldiers have heard rumors of a suspect in Sir Michol’s disappearance, later acknowledging that the suspect is Hapenlok.

* As a precaution, the outpost’s joint operations with the militia will cease until an investigation into that matter is concluded.

* Gregory asks Magister Raelee to leave the room. After she does, he reveals to Shinann a torn page from a book owned by someone at the Hall of Mages, showing that someone is spying on her and tracking her activities. Additionally, on this same page, “Rowmi has successfully created an anchor.” (What this means is unknown.)

* Gregory hopes that the Landing can provide news regarding Sir Michol within the week.

* Stormyrain removes Hapenlok from active duty until the investigation is concluded.

* On a rooftop, a Rook unfurls the flag of Chastonia, from where the Kestrels hail, and sets it ablaze. Shinann notes that it’s because of the abduction of Acorn and the removal of his eyes; Goldstr reminds us that Dennet likewise is after the Rooks; Raelee reminds us that it’s because of the past when Rysus stole plinite from a ship and murdered mages from the Hall.

[Side note… on the night we found out about Acorn, which was a couple weeks ago now, I didn’t arrive early enough to find out who exactly abducted him. Basically, though, Bekke had sent him to try to contact Sir Thadston, but he was intercepted and Bekke’s letter and Acorn’s eyes were sent back to her. Dennet also ordered her not to try contacting Thadston again.]

The Hendoran knight says, “Two things this evening.”
The Hendoran knight says, “First, we’ve heard some rumors that there is a suspect identified in the disappearing of Sir Michol.”
The Hendoran knight says, “The rumors are spreading, but Grand Magister Dennet has taken no action towards them at this time.”
The Hendoran knight says, “But that is not going to stop many of us, who served under Sir Michol, to pursue it.”
The Hendoran knight says, “We’ve been given a name, and some compelling stories. But we’d rather your town and your Mayor bring what is known to us.”
The Hendoran knight says, “And I apologize, my name is Gregory.”
The Hendoran knight says, “I won’t mention the name now, but the suspect is said to be within the militia.”
The Hendoran knight says, “That said, we’ll be ceasing all cooperative training sessions and operations at this time, with the town militia, until we can get to the bottom of this.”
Speaking calmly to an armored Hendoran knight, Cruxophim inquires, “And where does this lead come from, pray tell?”
The Hendoran knight says, “Many, some slight variations with some of the stories.”
Speaking neutrally to an armored Hendoran knight, Cruxophim clarifies, “So rumor then, or has someone actually observed something?”
The Hendoran knight says, “There’s enough information that matches from various sources to make it cause to investigate.”
The Hendoran knight says, “But that is why I am here, and me alone.”
The Hendoran knight says, “Rumors can be dangerous.”
The Hendoran knight says, “But until we can determine what truth may exist, we’ll be halting all joint operations with the militia in the meantime.”
The Hendoran knight says, “A precautionary measure, nothing more.”
Speaking to an armored Hendoran knight, Shinann asks, “How long have you been stationed at the Outpost?”
The Hendoran knight says, “I was brought on near the end of Thadston’s command, and gladly served Sir Michol when he took over.”
Speaking calmly to an armored Hendoran knight, Cruxophim states, “If you could tell the Grand Magister we shall investigate, so we can get back to cooperation as usual, it would be appreciated.”
The Hendoran knight says, “The Grand Magister has not sent me.”
The Hendoran knight says, “We do not need his permission to seek answers or justice.”

The Hendoran knight says, “The second matter this night…”
The knight glances over at Raelee.
The knight whispers something to Shinann.
Shinann nods to the Hendoran knight.
Raelee bluntly says, “If you want me to leave, say so. Openly.”
The knight taps his foot.
Shinann asks, “Raelee, could you please step out?”
Speaking calmly to Raelee, Cruxophim assures, “I do not see why you would not be welcome here.”
Shinann says, “I am sorry, I am not sure why.”
Speaking to Cruxophim, Shinann says, “I will go with that, if you want.”
The Hendoran knight says, “Fine.”
The Hendoran knight says, “She may stay.”
The Hendoran knight glances over at Raelee.
Raelee rolls her eyes.
The Hendoran knight says, “They all have a way of finding out regardless sometimes…”
Raelee mutters, “I will be in the laboratory.”
Magister Raelee just went through a varnished modwir door.
The Hendoran knight says, “One can never be certain.”
The Hendoran knight says, “While we have halted our cooperation, we have not halted our concern for you as your allies.”
The knight pulls out a torn piece of parchment from his cloak.
The knight says, “This was torn from a page of one of the mages within the Hall.”
The knight says, “I am uncertain to whom the book belonged. One of the new arrivals, Raelee, or even Dennet himself.”
The knight places the parchment on the mayor’s desk, but pushes it towards Shinann’s direction.
The knight says, “I believe you are being heavily watched Captain.”
Speaking to Shinann, Stormyrain asks, “What does it say?”
Shinann offers Stormyrain a torn piece of parchment.
Stormyrain accepts Shinann’s piece of parchment.
Shinann says, “You can lay it down.”
Stormyrain carefully places a torn piece of parchment on the floor.
Stormyrain points at a torn piece of parchment.
Stormyrain says, “If anyone wishes to read.”

>read parch
In the Common language, it reads:
Shinann. The miracle healer. Mother had illness, gone. Rowmi has successfully created an anchor.

The page appears to be torn and continues later on.

Day 65. Patrol on North Ring. South ring. Lunch at barracks. Forest patrol. Town center. Healing.

Day 66. Sent messager bird to father. South ring patrol. Eastern side patrol. Lunch at Wayside. Meeting with Mayor. Barracks. Town center. Barracks.

Day 67. Forest patrol. Trollfang patrol.

The rest of the page is torn.

Shinann says, “But, her illness is not gone.”
The knight says, “That is all I had.”
Shinann says, “Mother.”
Shinann says, “They mean my mother.”
Shinann says, “Sorry.”
The knight says, “I hope you can provide us some news on Sir Michol within the week.”
The knight says, “I’m holding more than a few soldiers at bay.”
Speaking to an armored Hendoran knight, Stormyrain asks, “Did you have a name–from the rumors?”
The knight says, “Yes, I do not wish to mention it here Captain.”
Stormyrain says, “Someone in the militia is quite..well vague.”
Stormyrain can offer an armored Hendoran knight only a blank expression.
Hapenlok stands up.
Hapenlok slowly empties his lungs.
Sareyna says, “We all know its no secret.”
Hapenlok says, “I know what the name is, just come out with it.”
The knight says, “Very well.”
The knight says, “It is your name, Hapenlok.”
Speaking to an armored Hendoran knight, Shinann asks, “You know. Can I tell you something since you brought me this?”
Speaking to an armored Hendoran knight, Hapenlok says, “Fine.”
The knight says, “Yes.”
Speaking to an armored Hendoran knight, Shinann says, “I honestly think he is being set up.”
The knight says, “They’ll expect some justice sooner rather than later, of some sort.”
Speaking to an armored Hendoran knight, Shinann says, “But, could you talk them into giving us time to try to disprove that.”
The knight says, “I will do my best, yes.”
The knight says, “Good night.”
The knight marches off.

Hapenlok offers Stormyrain an etched militia badge.
Speaking reassuringly to Hapenlok, Cruxophim vows, “We will get this resolved as quickly as possible.”
Hapenlok works his way out of a brass-riveted militia tabard.
Speaking gravely to Hapenlok, Stormyrain says, “I have to remove you from active duty until we clear you. But it won’t take us long.”
Stormyrain accepts Hapenlok’s etched militia badge.
Stormyrain put an etched militia badge in her ashen leather kit.
Hapenlok offers Stormyrain a brass-riveted militia tabard.
Stormyrain accepts Hapenlok’s militia tabard.
Stormyrain put a brass-riveted militia tabard in her ashen leather kit.

Out through a window, a dark hooded figure can be seen leaping across some rooftops.
A dark hooded figure rises at the edge of a rooftop, the moonlight gleaming on his mask, as rain rivulets drip from its silver beak.
The hooded figure holds up a rolled up flag.
The hooded figure loosens his grip and the flag unfurls, depicting the image of a golden hawk on a field of blue.
The hooded figure flicks a finger, lighting a match and setting a corner of the golden hawk flag on fire.
The hooded figure taps one eye of his mask, then the other eye.
The hooded figure lets the burning hawk flag go from his grip, the banner wreathed in flames as it falls from the rooftop and lands on the street below. The rain smothers most of the fire, leaving scorched remnants of the cloth behind. The hooded figure drops out of sight.
Shinann says, “Dennet wants to wage some sort of war on the Rooks.”
Shinann says, “Invade them.”
You carefully venture, “I’m sure many outside of the Rooks’ ranks feel much the same about the Kestrels.”
Hapenlok murmurs, “Especially after their mascot, such as the poor kid was went missing.”
Shinann says, “That is why they pointed to the eyes.”
Shinann says, “They are going after them.”
Goldstr says, “Dennet said almos when he got here he was after da Rooks.”
Shinann says, “Well, they have a boy.”
Speaking to Goldstr, you agree, “Yep, he started pressing us about the Rooks the very night after his arrival.”
Shinann says, “And took out his eyes.”
Raelee suddenly fades into view.
Raelee slowly asks, “… do you know why the Grand Magister was so intent upon the Rooks on his arrival?”
You venture, “Something about the plinite they’d stolen, if I remember.”
Raelee nods to you.
Hapenlok says, “Plinite stolen, and brother mages murdered obtaining it.”
Raelee says, “Rysus, one of their leaders, boarded a ship belonging to the Hall. Murdered everyone aboard. And stole four caches of plinite.”
Speaking to Raelee, Shinann says, “We have a truce with them, right now.”
Speaking to Shinann, Raelee says, “Then it might be worth utilizing that truth to negotiate the return of the stolen property.”
Shinann says, “Until Marshal Thrayzar breaks it.”
Raelee clenches her jaw.
Magister Raelee just went south.

Thank you for posting this. I was trying to figure out what to recap, and this works fine. It really came as no surprise to Shinann that she was being watched. Boy, she has a boring life! Glad they left off the other 60 patrols. Heh.

Certain parts of this makes me think of an 80’s cop show, hehe.
