Hey everyone, I wanted to make a quick announcement about use of third-party content and give some helpful reminders, not only for GemStone IV, but just in general when using software out there in the wild. While we are absolutely aware that many of our players use Lich, it’s not something we oversee or have any direct involvement in maintaining. We have certainly helped out where we’re able to, but we do not have any control in the content out there. If you’re using scripts that other users have created, be sure to only use them from authors you trust. It is your responsibility to safeguard and protect yourself from any sort of unwanted and malicious scripts, whether that is reviewing the code or knowing what you’re getting yourself into.

Lich, and the ecosystem around it, is an open-source software, maintained by many members of the community who truly want to make GemStone IV more accessible. While we do not officially support it, we certainly appreciate seeing how our community comes together in this way. The catch is that free and open can be taken advantage of from time-to-time. If you’re having trouble with a user on Lich, it’s best to do what you can to avoid them with any tools you may have at your disposal. If you’re having trouble with an author of a script, it’s best to stop using what they create. This really goes for anything out there on the Internet.

I know many of you have written in and are upset that we aren’t stepping in on this matter, but it truly is out of our scope.
