Welcome to the TownCrier's Daily Discord Digest.

In this space, we at the TownCrier will attempt to provide a daily digest of select conversations at the Official GemStone IV Discord server covering a 24-hour period from 10 pm EST the night previous to 10 pm EST of the night listed in the title. Not all conversations will be (nor can be) reported and we will endeavor to utilize a neutral tone (although our unique senses of humor may show through).

Links may go to the Official Discord post itself, to the GemStone IV Wiki, or other useful and relevant places. In the case of Discord links, those links will send you to the Discord web interface. If you are not signed in, you will need to be signed in to see them.

The digest was created by and is edited by the player of Qafziel Nalfein/Darcena Wolf-Valslayer - Jen. Have an error to report on this digest or some information to pass along? Contact Jen on Discord at ArmyJen#0001 or e-mail her. Please reference which digest day to which you are referring.

What You Missed

My gratitude to the following individuals for assisting in the compilation of this Discord Digest: Luxelle (#scripting) and Laralana (#general, #prime, #help, #roleplay-in-elanthia).

We are still looking for a volunteer to take on #roleplay-in-elanthia on a permanent basis!

General GemStone IV

#general

Hoy asked, “will illusion relics from duskruin be eligible for script swap at EG?” ASGM Tamuz replied, “probably not due to the complexity of the illusion script and everything it requires in setup.”

#premium

GM Quilic said, regarding his invasion creatures, “The slimes are nasty. The forms are (in my opinion) worse. This Sunday there’ll be some old favorites and some new horrors making an appearance.”

Jahadeem, The Death Indexer posted a link to the Dragon Quest page about slimes. GM Quilic responded, “And where do you think the idea for the metallic slimes in my invasions came from in the first place? Incredibly hard to hit, the battles take forever (though in GS it had to be done with insanely high hit points)… they’re essentially the metallic slimes from DQ1.”

Amalara asked if the invasion zones would be the same. GM Quilic responded, “For the most part, yes. This time will have some twists, as it’s the finale, but the zones will be largely intact.”

GM Quilic said, “Well, this IS the Finale. It’s gonna get nastier this time around.”

GM Quilic said, “@Luxie ? Thank you so much for that. I love it! And as always, I can’t say enough how much I appreciate all you and the TC staff do.” He added, “I think I’ve mentioned before, but Luxie and the Crier are responsible for me coming back to GS. I was gone, and thought I’d stay gone, when I heard about the Crier. I signed up for the emails and was like, “Oh man… there’s a LOT going on!” And waded back in.”

GM Quilic said, “RPAs are definitely a thing, and I try and give them out when appropriate. I don’t always catch everyone, though.” He added, “Basically, if you’re participating in a QST invasion, and you hear a call for everyone to rest up… might wanna be at the triage location. That’s where the RPA is likely to hit, if there’s going to be one.” And summarized, “The “good” RPAs are given to those who go above and beyond, though”

#mechanics

Hoy asked, “could we get exact resist to show on loresing or another way? pcal isn’t really accurate since it rounds up to every 10 ressist”

MoC for Bards

Ashraam asked, “What’s the consensus on MoC for UAC bards? I have heard that MoC slows down TTK from some higher leveled bards, and was thinking of redirecting my MoC points into spell training instead to boost my UAF and DS from 425/430. Also, after you get 30 MnE and 40 Bard, is it the best mechanical strategy to start back on MnE to 75 ranks before resuming bard for a melee / UAC bard?”

Leafiara responded, “Not familiar with UAC bards specifically, but just on paper I’m guessing it’s a similar enough argument to any other type of melee bard: Why mstrike in (say) 4 seconds (7, then reduced to 4 by Tonis) when you could just not mstrke and attack four times in four seconds anyway while not having to manage stamina nor pay for the ranks?”

FarFigNewGut added, “yeah, maybe some for FoF offset but definitely more of a postcap thing IMO”

Melivn reminded, “Mstrike give you the chance to tier up with UAC which is nice in a room full of stuff”

Leafiara responded, ” Okay, that makes sense. So in that case maybe 15 MOC just to get things going against three enemies, then switch to single target.”

There’s more interesting informaton in there if you want to start from the beginning and follow along!

#help

Deso asked, “are UAC folks considered hands free and absorb exp faster?” Leafiara replied, “right now, yes, but it’s a bug.”

Midgar said, “I forgot there is a level restriction to take the boat to Teras. What level is it? And can you chrono at lower?” Maylan replied, “20 and not that I know of. 20 is the minimum level for all methods of travel to teras.”

GM Naos asked, “Is knitting actually a thing?” Elysia replied, “YES.” Maylan remarked, “KNITTING IS AMAZING.” She added, “and is freely available to all premium characters, or any non-premie who can get someone to shop for them.” She continued, “And then there are auction quality knitting needles that do all KINDS of things. But yarn is available OTS on FWI.”

#scripting

Dracnoir asked about getting BigShot to run a StormFront script – and while Lich cannot access SF scripts, there were a couple suggestions for him.

Shhh asked if BigShot made use of the new ObviousHiding setting. And if possible to make it work.

People discussed poaching a bit.

Shhh posted the Discord #scripting quote of the day, “Can’t force somebody to be nice. You can only encourage them to.”

Xanlin updated ;invdb with a total count and a box count summary line for each of your lockers.

World of Elanthia

#festivals-and-events

Maylan the Maybug asked what widdershins meant. GM Naos responded it is the opposite of sunwise and then explained that sunwise is “the way the sun travels through the sky. It’s also the way time progresses on a sundial in the northern hemisphere, and so is like clockwise. (sunwise and widdershins are like folky ways to saying clockwise and anticlockwise) It’s a druid thing.”

#roleplay-in-elanthia

Raelee asked, “1) What’s something that’s surprised you about your own character? 2) Has your character ever surprised themselves? 3) What’s something your character is looking forward to right now? 4) What is your character’s favorite kind of pie?”
