Welcome to the TownCrier’s Daily Discord Digest.

In this space, we at the TownCrier will attempt to provide a daily digest of select conversations at the Official GemStone IV Discord server covering a 24-hour period from 10 pm EST the night previous to 10 pm EST of the night listed in the title. Not all conversations will be (nor can be) reported and we will endeavor to utilize a neutral tone (although our unique senses of humor may show through).

Links may go to the Official Discord post itself, to the GemStone IV Wiki, or other useful and relevant places. In the case of Discord links, those links will send you to the Discord web interface. If you are not signed in, you will need to be signed in to see them.

The digest was created by and is edited by the player of Qafziel Nalfein/Darcena Wolf-Valslayer – Jen. Have an error to report on this digest or some information to pass along? Contact Jen on Discord at ArmyJen#0001 or e-mail her. Please reference which digest day to which you are referring.

Invitation to Play Destiny 2. Luke (Reife) announced, “So, for those that play, or played previously, Destiny 2 is going free to play in October as well as enabling cross platform saves so you can play your characters on multiple platforms. I am starting a new PC based clan in the next day or so. We currently have a strong core of PvE players, and are seeking players of all levels, both PvE and PvP specialists. We are also accepting cross platform players who are coming over to PC. If you are interested, come play with us and see if you like it. Shoot me a DM. (if this is not allowed, mods feel free to delete).”

Surname Explanations. Avaia asked, “Can we get the Surname RESERVE option implemented so that we can share a Surname between characters on our account?” Alisaire responded that you can already share surnames between characters on the same account, “The character with the last name has to register it. Then the other character, on the same account, asks to use the surname already registered. There isn’t a level restriction for that character. (Syntax I believe is ask clerk to register / ask clerk to change name to x) Sharing surnames to a character NOT on the same account requires them to be level 20 first.”

#mechanics

Qstrike and Celerity [506]. Ala§†ìℜ asked, “Why does spell 506 no longer reduce RT when you pop your muscles?” BobN replied, “Well, 506 allows you to use qstrike at reduced stamina. That is the spell effect. So when your muscles are popped, spell effect is still there but you cannot qstrike”

Ragz mentioned that the last time this issue came up, GM Estild said, “FarFigNewGut is correct. But it should probably ignore the popped muscles effect when 506 is active (assuming no actual stamina is expended for the attack.)” and then Ragz added, “of course, maybe Dev discussed it and decided that it was working as intended. there isn’t really a way for players to know if the system is actually bugged or not”

Temporary Modification Value. Ponclast asked, “Can loresong/pawn values please be fixed not to incredibly overvalue temp modifications? It makes for roughly twice as many items to sing to, wasting lots of time after arena/sewer runes.”

Request to Update BOOSTs and Boss Creatures. Athias reported, “Just my two cents about a couple of things I’ve noticed…You only get boosts if you’re the one who loots a creature…You also only get LTE bonuses if you’re the one who loots a mini-boss. I was under the impression that some of these were put in place as attempts to promote group hunting when in fact, they incentivize solo play. Most group hunts have a primary looter (due to skinning, and encumbrance factors)”

Darcena replied, “I also would like to see more things in place to incentivize group hunting that includes LTE bonus on the Boss Creatures going to anyone who gets “a significant amount” (or whatever the designation is) on a creature if it is not currently doing so.”

Leafiara responded,  “thought it already does that. I’ve noticed my LTE going up during KST invasions and I’m pretty sure I’m almost never dealing the killing blow.”

Darcena asked for clarification on if Leafiara meant GM Kenstrom uses Boss Creatures  or if there is a shared mechanic to have LTE increasing in invasions as well. She also clarified that she didn’t mean BOOSTs.

Leafiara responded, “Yeah, I’m talking about LTE being added directly to the pool. Not via boost. He uses at very least minibosses, since I can see multiple boons on them by appraising them.” She later added, “The invasion creatures I’ve seen don’t have ordinary adjectives–they seem to be custom creations where he just piles on boons. They might actually be an entirely separate category, come to think of it.”

GM Haxus clarified, “When we are creating custom invasion critters, we can manually add boons without causing the associated “adjectiving” that Ixix’s critters have for ease of identification.”

Athias added, about an encounter with a zombie pack, “BUT, that being said – I did earn LTE on both characters. So, my original assertion may have been incorrect.”

Separately, about BOOSTs, Darcena added, “It is problematic sometimes when I’m the primary looter due to being a caster wherein encumbrance matters a little less and also being in soft RT to ensure everyone is getting their chance at BOOSTs, as well.”

Leafiara added, “I do agree that it’s a problem for group hunting that the ordinary LTE boosts go only to the looter. I know that one well since I do MA bandits and have to split up the looting until everyone’s done.

Request to Update Pawnshop Note Mechanics. Melivn asked, “QOL request. The Gemshop in FWI allows you to have both hands full. One with the item your selling and one with something else and still allows you to get a note handed to you. While the pawnshop guy tells you , you need a free hand for a note. Could the gemshop guy give the pawnshop guy a lesson?”

#help

Mana Focus [418] and Spirit. Travakel asked, “Does Mana Focus 418 work for Spirit Regeneration as ON Node?” He later added, “My issue is with with Spirit Regen in the arena…I am trying to time it out but the room with the guard is a Node so it gives a warped signal. I am guessing 418 does not affect Spirit Regen, only mana Regen but I will probably test before next DR. And I think I got it, just need to be one south (or anywhere of node), wait for the spirit pulse and then wait a couple minutes before entering the arena to make sure I get the pulse sooner rather than later :joy::wink:

#scripting

Tysong provided code for duskruin_watch users who attack with hard RTs using combo that might help the script play along nicer with your attacking. This could be modified for other scripts.

Alatarion asked about a script to read scrolls and Luxie suggests ;foreach

World of Elanthia

#festivals-and-events

Traiva reminded, “Less than 2 hours until the 4th Annual Topsy-Turvy Masque! We’re in the Ebonstone Manor Ballroom this year to make it easier for attendance across Elanthia – look for the portal in your local CHE annex outside the Landing, or go up the brick pathway and then down the walkway from Landing’s North Ring Road”

Racial Mounts. Akenna discussed earlier on Saturday wanting yierka for mounts.

Talinvor stated that “racial mounts would be spectacular.”

Akenna suggested that Faendryl could have demon mounts.

Gavrien reminded, “There were lizard critters wearing saddles in the southron wastes during the Wavedancer. I’d like to see Faendryl have riding lizards since, y’know, they’re right there and all.”

Xorus added, “Archaic lore for the ‘leapers’ (‘bizarre cross between a wolf and a frog’) was that they were mounts used by Dark Elves.”

Additional ideas included a Golden Axe-style lizard/dragon mount, a Utahraptor (for large races), a velociraptor (for small races), the thanator cat from Avatar, steam-powered items for gnomes, polar bears for T’Kirem giants, giant cats for Dhe’nar…

Non-Winner Picking Up Trove Item. Players were concerned that a non-winner picked up the adamantine greatsword off the Treasure Trove rack. Arianiss asked, “S if someone is in your group they can nab the item?” GM Haliste replied, “Nah.”

Arianiss continued, “Should we be concerned that someone other than the winner was able to pick up the item?” Sins responded, “I let him in my group to help my guy get it”

Arianiss asked, “What stops me from joining your group, getting the item, and logging off for my eventual ban?” GM Haliste responded, “the only person that can grab that item is the winner. regardless of whether you’re in their group or not. when the guy tried to get the item off the rack, he ‘got it’, but dropped it. so then it was not locked, so to speak.”

Forced Deliberation on Raffles. Lylia commented, “I am thoroughly loving the Trove and the efforts you’re making to try different means of item distribution. I have a token and may not win, but it’s very cool seeing people actually debate with themselves over whether they want to enter raffles. Deliberation and choices are good things!”

INSPECT Changes in Treasure Trove. GM Haliste stated in regards to the Fancy Tome, “I have to uh… fix some of the items to have special property details. I’ll make a note that one needs some info.” She later fixed that particular special property.

GM Haliste announced, “Just changed INSPECT (at the Trove) to show the full item name instead of just its noun.”

Restocking HESS. PM Wyrom announced at 11:07 pm ET on Saturday night, “I’m going to start working on restocking HESS.” Later he said, “Likely not going to open HESS tonight though until I get things worked out. I have some refunds I need to confirm as well.”

Wyromania. zeph asked, “is there any plans for LESS shenanigans?” PM Wyrom responded, “Anything I plan will be on the last days of Duskruin. We end on an odd day though, and we have the Premium festival coming up.” and “So I’m not 100% sure what I’ll do.”

PM Wyrom also said, “Yes, I’ll announce something on the forums. Likely looking at Friday for something. I typically do Sunday at noon, but time to give another group of people some chances.”

Treasure Trove Error Saturday Night. Nuadjha reported, “There is a problem. Please ASSIST so a GameMaster can help. @Haliste – token returns are broken Sorry!” GM Haliste looked into it and said, “Oh, it’s because there’s no raffle item there right now. Okay, let me fix this.”

REDEEM queue / HESS certificate redemption timing. Phys asked, “is there anyway to check whereyou are in line for a REDEEM item? like adding flares? I dot think there is but I didnt want to logout if i was close” Tysong stated, “There is not.”

Nidal asked, “Whats typical turnaround for HESS certs? I got my initial work done by Wyrom right when HESS opened last Saturday, curious what to expect for something I redeemed last night” GM Haliste responded, “Hess cert turnaround depends on the availability of the GM who is redeeming them. If you haven’t had your cert done before the end of Duskruin, or perhaps even a week after, then you should be concerned. Otherwise, be patient. There are LOTS of redemptions. And thanks.

Voln Armor Pricing Rework. PM Wyrom announced, “I’m reworking the VolnArmor unlock pricing with this restock.” thenOr well, maybe not.Let me look at this further.

Request to Reset Arena Cooldowns for Squares. Shield asked, “Can squares get some Arena/Heist love and clear cooldowns for Combat Maneuvers: Surge and Stealthmastery are top of my list. I understand Mana Leech and other cooldowns reset for pures.”

Tea Stove Bug. Faerinn explained, “BTW don’t place the tea stoves on the ground in the front room of Mad Hatter’s. They seem become a copy of the stove already in there and permanent.”

Treasure Trove Answers. GM Haliste offered some answers and explanations to constructive criticism that players had been giving over the night and early morning.

1) I plan to keep the selection of items random. I get that some are inconvenienced by this — there are also some who are not. (I will never make everyone happy with every decision we make about this.) I think it’s a small price to pay to have to come back to see the next item up, personally.

2) The Trove is not intended to have multiple instances of it running at the same time at the same event. That completely bypasses the entire functionality of The Trove. It was designed to be a continuous, [mostly] fluid and automated method of releasing the unique/jackpot items that we would otherwise distribute as part of some kind of activity (ie: digging, diving, etc.) There are plenty of times where we DO do the typical raffle set up — and those will remain/exist when appropriate. For the Trove, however, the functionality is very different.

3) The timing of the raffles will be based mostly on the event. Yes, one every hour seems a lot, but… there’s a lot of items to get through, especially since we’re not running it between midnight and noon. So in some cases, they’ll be quick this way. Never thought I’d hear concerns that items were coming out too fast. 😉

4) Some of the items will be more popular than others. And, as we near the end of an event, I expect that MANY of them will be full even if they’re not the most amazing items out there, just by virtue of the fact that players will want to use their tokens. I don’t think there’s an easy way to address this right now – and I’m not sure it is broken or needs fixing. This is a beta run, and we’ll discuss all the information received so that we can either make adjustments or not.

I’m glad most of you have enjoyed it! It’s rewarding to me to build something like this and have it actually work. LOL.

5) Twitter announcements: we are looking into the possibility of doing this. Bear in mind, it would be frequent tweets. And again, for items that are super popular, getting a tweet about the item may not even give you a chance to log in and drop your token. So I’m not sure there’s a ton of value here.

Treasure Trove Consolation Prize. Melivn suggested, “It would be really neat if on the 3rd loss of your token the machine gave you like a ticket that you could maybe use for something else pizewall, tears in to an L/D note etc. so you dont feel like even after finding something you’ve won nothing” GM Haliste replied, “Yeah, @Melivn — something to consider, for sure.”

wrathe countered, “I don’t think we should get consolation prizes, including when we use up our tokens without a win”

Lochiven suggested, “Suggestion for a consolation prize for tokens that didn’t win anything. Let them be redeemed for one of those fancy DR Dig gems that were requested.”

FancyBook Reordering. GM Haliste announced, “While the Trove is quiet, I’m looking at a way to let you reorder the chapters in the FancyBook…”

Easel Certification Release Info. Tikoshi asked, “Any chance you can narrow the easel cert release time window a bit from ‘afternoon’?” GM Haliste replied, “Unfortunately, not really. My schedule is a little uncertain at the moment.”

Maylan the Maybug asked, “are you willing to tell us what the price of the T2 certs will be?” GM Haliste responded, “Same as last time – 50k”

Treasure Trove Timing. Stonmel asked, “how uh… punctual is the trove opening expected to be today? Should We worry about getting there 15 minutes early or something?” GM Haliste responded, “The chances of the Trove starting up BEFORE noon are slim. The chances of it starting a bit later than noon are very good. I think it would only be as late as ~12:15 though.” She announced that the Trove was up at 12:04 pm ET.

Ososis asked, “Im brain dead so if I missed something…wel I’m sure I did. Anyway, if there were a like 5 minute hold where an item moved to the tray but tokens were not accepted (maybe they can be returned from previous raffle?) that would give people a brief window to prepare and/or arrive as well as making a Tweet a bit more useful.” GM Haliste responded, “You just want to see what all’s in there. I am onto you! — Not gonna happen at this point.

Rohese stated, “The Trove hours are the only thing that I dislike about it, to be honest. It’s an amazing concept but doesn’t work well for all times zones with the current set up” and suggested, “I think if it ends up working as planned with no GM intervention, it should be over 24 hours” GM Haliste responded, “It’s not going to be open 24 hours. Sorry, guys.” Rohese responded, “Then I doubt I’ll be buying into EG if it remains at noon to midnight EST, sorry”

Treasure Trove Sneak Peeks. Ososis suggested, “Let people burn a token to rattle the cabinet…get a little peek at something” GM Haliste responded, “That was suggested last night, @Ososis but it’s not something I’m interested in doing at this point. I’ll certainly have more discussions about it in the future with the event team.”

Bug with Sunder Shield. Omrii reported a bug with Sunder Shield.

 #simucoin-store

Omrii asked for 12-month durations on the encumbrance and enhancive pauses. Alastir added the enhancive recharge potions. Doug requested annual purchase abilities in general and A Dark Elf asked for annual subscription options. Melivn stated, “I’d just be happy with being able to pick how many of something I want to buy at once.”

Warm Fuzzies

The good stuff, compiled by Jen.

Phys to GM Valyrka, “Idk if you’re the only one that [redeems HESS certificates] but this will be the 3rd you’ve done for me thanks you”
