STOW RIGHT and STOW LEFT

GM Contemplar suggests using STOW RIGHT or STOW LEFT when you run across something that defies stowing!

>.loot hel
[Script loot is running, Esc to cancel, Shift-Esc to pause]
>sheathe
>get hel
>stow hel
You aren’t holding any weapons in your hands.
>unsheathe
[script done]
You pick up a teardrop of dark green heliotrope.

Usage:
STOW SET {container}
– Sets the default container that you wish to STOW items in.
The container must be worn by you.
STOW (LEFT | RIGHT | ALL)
– STOWS the item held in the specified hand in your default
container, which must be in your inventory.
– You can click on an item in your hand and choose “stow” from the menu to stow it.

It seems to have started targetted things in my inventory (I think this is an error message from an attempt to stow my helm) ahead of things that I’ve just picked up. Other verbs continue to check the thing I’ve just picked up first which makes it difficult to be sure whats going on.

>tap hel
You tap a teardrop of dark green heliotrope, which is in your right hand.

It is triggering the stow help verb trap. Type one or two more letters for the target and you will be good.

Sweet is the sound of the pouring rain,
And the stream that falls from the hill to plain.
Better than rain or rippling brook,
Is a mug of beer inside this Took.

I haven’t had problems stowing those gems before. Has it been changed so that keywords don’t have to be typed in full any more? That’s going to be a real pain if it becomes general rather than just in STOW.

To get around this problem I use STOW RIGHT, or STOW LEFT instead of STOW <item>.

You may now be wearing or holding something in a container that begins with those first 3 letters?

It’s happened to me before with items.

Doesn’t it also get confused if you used a gemcutter on a gem’, specifically one that would also be found with ‘hel’ in this case? You don’t have that, do you?

On a not about heliotrope note, the using stow right in your script idea could avoid the problem if it continues to boggle and annoy.

I’ve been wearing a helm for ages, and I thought that had become the issue but it seems it was abbreviated keywords.

I went with that, though with a differently configured character I think PUT might be required. In this case I can guarantee the item is in the right hand (or something else is badly enough wrong that I don’t care)

PUT RIGHT also works.

I noticed I was using STOW MY … on a different character (who definitely doesn’t want to specify LEFT/RIGHT) which also seems like it would work, though I haven’t got the right items to check it out thoroughly just now.

Does it work if Mynon or others with first name MYxxxx are in the room?

It should do. I’d be more worried about pet mynah’s on my shoulder.
