Last night, a storm settled over Solhaven. Then, this happened:

>Far off in the distance, beyond Solhaven Bay, a dark speck rides the storm-tossed waters. Barely recognizable as a ship, it is tossed about on the white-peaked waves like a careless child’s toy.

>Bobbing and tilting, the ship in the distance ekes its way toward Solhaven Bay. Along the docks, captains belt orders to their crews to secure moorings and brace for the surprise storm.

>A wave crashes over the distant ship, smashing down on it like a giant’s fist. For a moment, the vessel appears to have been consumed by the ungentle waters, but when the ocean levels out once more, the ship remains, looking a bit the worse for wear.

>Lightning strikes across the skies over Solhaven Bay, forking down perilously near the oncoming vessel.

>Another wave pummels the ship with incredible force as it closes on the entrance to the Bay. The winds carry the distant crack of splintering wood to your ears.

>Battered by another wave, the ship’s bow cracks and tears, splintering off into the ocean. The uneven bobbing of the vessel grows more violent as it begins to take on water.

>A strange tingle of magic threads through the air, joining the charged feel of the storm.

>Intense violet light begins to rise up around the ship, illuminating the waters around it. Wisps of corruscating energy travel over the decks and crackle up the masts.

>A sudden feeling of intense wrongness twists in your stomach. Your head rings like a struck bell. Through your bleary eyes, the world seems to contort and twist, as might a pond disturbed by a tossed stone.

>The violet light surrounding the vessel grows blinding in its intensity. The distant ship seems to fold in upon itself, timbers and waters swirling inward toward a central point, as if being sucked down an invisible hole. Oddly, the vessel seems intact, but its form shrinks and shrivels, dissipating by the moment.

>An earsplitting POP jolts through the air, and suddenly the storm-tossed waters are empty.

>The sickening feeling of wrongness dissipates, but slowly. The air around you feels… tight, somehow, as if everything remains twisted a bit out of place on some fundamental level.

>The tightness around you begins to ease away, leaving only a touch of vertigo behind.

>A rain-battered pigeon flutters past, heading inland from the Bay. As it soars overhead, the hasty tie of twine around one of its talons comes undone, and a wet scroll flutters past on the breeze.

The scroll was sent to Carellus – a hedgewizard who has aided Solhaven in the past, but only signed as ‘T’. To paraphase… it said that they, on the boat, were taking on water and attempting a spell. Seemingly, the spell worked. The question is… where did the ship go?

The scroll was picked up by a certain scribe and read as follows:

In the Common language, it reads:

Carellus,

Taking on water.
Attempting spell.
I had hoped to see you again.

–T

Shortly after finding the scroll, copious amounts of cheesecake were nervously consumed.
