“There is trouble brewing in Ta’Vaalor.”

“Has the Argent Mirror sent aid?”

“Hurry now children, make haste.”

Treeva’s keen ears gleaned bits and pieces of hushed conversations as she briskly moved through the Shining City, sharp black heels clicking on the cobblestone street. The beacon fires burned brightly at every turn proclaiming distress for the neighboring elven fortress. Apprehension was etched on the faces of many citizens as they scurried for safety and she could smell the fear wafting off some in waves.

Eva didn’t blame them one bit, not after hearing rumors on hordes of undead laying siege to the gates of Ta’Vaalor. She quickly slipped inside the Chronomage establishment upon reaching it, thankful once more for their shady but convenient teleportation magic. The attendant barely acknowledged her presence, only glancing up briefly from his reading material when her body shimmered and disappeared from sight.

The spell teleported her to a cramped building beyond the protective gates of Ta’Vaalor. Stepping outside, Eva was immediately assaulted by the overwhelming scents of blood and decay. Sweet and heady elven blood mingled with a foreign bitter kind…ithzir blood? Her brows furrowed as she considered the implications of the smell. How had ithzir made it past the barrier? There was a disgusting and pervasive odor of decay layered atop it all, the rot of undeath. Eva allowed herself a long sigh of disdain before embracing the horrific smell, choking on it before she adjusted. It was better than the alternative, she reminded herself silently. A firm self restraint would be necessary to function at top capacity tonight.

From a distance she spotted two Vaalorian soldiers engaged in combat with a handful of mindless undead, their crimson and golden armour gleaming proudly as they traded blows with the enemy. The clash of metal biting metal rang out as their blades flashed in an adept display of swordsmanship, seeking out any hint weakness in their opponents.

Eva started towards them, long legs quickly breaking into a sprint when she saw one elf fall to the wicked looking claws of a towering monstrosity. The other soldier moved to defend his vulnerable companion at once, bravely shielding the fallen elf with his own body despite being clearly outnumbered. She reached their side, adding her body to physically protect the prone elf as she unleashed a torrent of fire at the opposition. The undead shrieked with agony and ecstasy as her flames consumed their putrid flesh before they were quickly cut down by the blade of the soldier still fighting. He panted for breath after, nodding gratefully towards Eva.

“Good timing. Please, take Vartan back to the fortress for triage.” The soldier frowned, wiping a smear of ichor off his face with a gloved hand before his posture readied for battle once more. “Ask for reinforcements, too. I’ll hold here.”

“Of course.” Eva obliged in an instant, carefully scooping the unconscious elf off the ground and into her arms with ease. She cradled him gently as she would a babe, mindful of the large gashes ominously seeping blood down his torso and sides. Calling over her shoulder to the lone elf soldier she cautioned with concern evident in her voice, “Take care until more help arrives. It won’t be long.”

Treeva moved through town a bit faster than she would have normally dared, relying on the chaos amidst the fortress to conceal her unnatural speed. She deposited the wounded elf within the safety of the temple where he would be tended to, passing along the message of necessary reinforcements. After being assured the soldier she left would receive quick assistance, Eva made for Vermilion gate to fight on the front line with the elven units bearing the brunt of the assault.

There were so many ithzir, the numbers seemed impossible. Eva’s pale blue eyes widened in surprise as she beheld the scene on the front lines, the endless waves of foreign invaders that threw themselves relentless against the gate and its defenders. Her hands flexed and curled in fists of rage at the sight, little claws emerging as smoke densely wreathed her form. The audacity of her opponents was galling, that they would dare attack such an absurdly fortified town.

Eva fell into place beside the other defenders, lined up shoulder to shoulder with her brethren to block entrance to the fortress. She heard the rallying cries of the Vaalor elves and raised her melodic voice in unison with their shouts, drawing courage from the words as she warmed up for the impending slaughter.

“For Honor, Pride and Glory!”

“For the Elven Nations!”

The call to attack sounded and Eva’s eyes flashed vibrant red as she raised her hands towards the sky with a sharp gesture. Blazing bolts of fire began streaking down, raining angry destruction on the opposition. Their screams were music to her ears, the display of flames dazzling entertainment and soon she was lost in the carnage of battle, hearing only the wild pounding of her own heartbeat.

I don’t have much experience in combat writing, so hopefully this is enjoyable to read and still flows decently. Part 2 will be the downfall and the war griffins! I’m not holding out, I just haven’t finished it yet.

Miss you too, Rohese my darling. <3

Awesome read, Amanda! I like seeing the visual idea of the attacks and this actually made me imagine it more than I did. I will have a whole new viewpoint invasions now too.

This is my first real experience with them and with the scroll it is a lot to keep up with game wise. I am learning a lot since some of these are higher levels as well and I have yet to fight against them.

I wanted to say awesome letter to Kakoon. Thanks for sharing that as well to provide more insight.

And last but not least, thank you to all the GMs involved. I am getting excited to see more than the invasions and learn why everything is happening.

This will be the first time that I will attempt to get involved with a storyline as when I played before I would actually avoid them more or less. But being in the EN made that pretty easy before though there was one happening when last I played. I am really having a great time being back and look forward to seeing more and interacting with more folks!
