And here’s the REST of the story from Leafiara about Rodnay and the Talon. The discussion that began after he left.

Category: Towns
Topic: Wehnimer’s Landing

From: LEAFIARA
Subj: Rodnay and the Talon (October 19 story recap)
Bullet points:

* Rodnay is aware that Dennet possesses a “Talon” which Quinshon wants, but he (Rodnay) doesn’t know what it is
* Rodnay seeks help to go to the Swale, where he’ll be able to read the minds of five members of the Hall to learn what the Talon is, so long as Raelee can get him there and Landing adventurers will protect him
* Raelee requests that Rodnay let her speak with them first, but (at least unless I missed it) Rodnay neither agrees nor refuses her

Log:

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Setting the Mood ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

A cold wind stirs through the area.

A tiny flake of snow descends from the depths of night, the moon catching its surface and causing it to glisten as it drifts to the ground.

Two children walks by, and one of them suddenly looks embarassed. The other kid says, “…Did…did you?…do you have flax-ulance?” They laugh and run off past Evia.

Some shops in town begin to slowly close up for the night, workers shuttering windows and locking doors, while mothers scoot their children inside. Drifting down from the sky, another fleck of snow falls, then another.

Like fragments of glowing stars, tiny flakes of snow appear in the night, gently drifting down from the heavens, some dissolving before even touching the ground.

You idly comment, “I hope this is natural snow and not something Naimorai’s experimenting with.”
You evenly concede, “Although, honestly, I wouldn’t mind her creating snow… I like the cold once in a while.”
Irar says, “I doubt the Lady Naimorai is creating snow.”
You remind, “Well, she did say the cold never bothered her… anyway.”
A sudden fierce gust of wind howls through the area!
You are buffeted by the wind and knocked to the ground!
Osloe groans at you.
You thrash around on the ground.
You insist, “She did! She said it. I remember.”
You stamp your feet.

[Flashback to February 11:

Cryheart asks, “Ye usually swim out here in the evening?”
Naimorai nods at Cryheart.
Naimorai says, “Sometimes, yes.”
Naimorai says, “Ice, is my preferred element.”
Naimorai asks, “The water and snow?”
Naimorai shrugs.
Naimorai says, “The cold never bothered me anyway.”
(OOC) Ysharra’s player whispers to the group, “Groan.”
(OOC) Naimorai’s player whispers to the group, “HEHEHEHE.”

Now back to October 19… ;)]

Glistening snowflakes fall from the sky, soon more joining them as they drift down.

A light chill continues to settle in the air, as some shops finally close up for the night, and others remain open, a candle or lantern in their window. Townspeople still occupy the streets, less than before, but some moving about to their work, along docks, or even the forge. Snow falls from the sky, the amber light of the candles and lanterns dancing along the flakes surface as they drift down over town.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Rodnay Awakens ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

A faint voice seems to whisper in your mind, “…where am I….”

A faint voice seems to whisper in your mind, “…where am I….”

A faint voice seems to whisper in your mind, “Mayor, hello. Where is here?”

A faint voice seems to whisper in your mind, “Ard—wen?”

A faint voice seems to whisper in your mind, “Rest, yes, it was good. Thank you.”

A faint voice seems to whisper in your mind, “Hello Subarashi, Shinann. Welcome to the Old Copper Shop, home of the rich Ard-wen.”

A faint voice seems to whisper in your mind, “I feel, rested.”

A faint voice seems to whisper in your mind, “They have stopped bleeding me.”

[travel time]

Sir Cryheart’s group just went behind a vertical wood panel.

[Pan’s Place, Low Room]
A low ceiling painted in exquisite natural colors adorns this room. A skylight set with panes of clear mica lets in the light to nurture the plants and flowers that line the panelled walls. Several unpretentious chairs face the warm, inviting hearth of a brick fireplace in the east wall. Against the opposite wall, a leather sofa with plump cushions beckons, a tempting spot to doze in front of the fire while contemplating esoteric matters. You also see a vertical wood panel, a crystalline knob, a crystalline door that seems to have light shining through it from the other side and a rent box.

Rodnay furrows his brow.
A voice in your mind says, “Hello.”
Rodnay looks down at his arms, watching them, observing them for a moment.
Rodnay turns his hands, looking at his palms and tilting his head.
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra asks, “Is that where they took from you?”
Rodnay nods at Ysharra.
Ysharra nods slowly at Rodnay.
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra says, “Scars are curious possessions. You look at them to watch your story unfold.”
A voice in your mind says, “The scars are gone.”
Maylan screams!
Maylan frets.
Rodnay glances at Maylan.
Rodnay quietly asks, “Is…this better?”
Rodnay peers quizzically at Maylan.
Maylan whimpers.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Mysterious Talon ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Speaking calmly to Rodnay, Hapenlok asks, “So, you’re up and at it. nearly recovered. what now?”
Rodnay looks around, tilting his head, observing everyone.
Rodnay quietly says, “He wants the Talon.”
Rodnay quietly says, “The mage has it, and the shaman wishes it.”
Magister Raelee’s group just came from behind a vertical wood panel.
Rodnay glances at Raelee.
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra asks, “Do you know…is that what’s caused all of this? For the mage and his family?”
Rodnay quietly says, “I cannot touch their minds.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Shinann asks, “Was that in the box? That he brought from the Bleaklands?”
Rodnay nods at Shinann.
Speaking huskily to Rodnay, Etanah asks, “If I may . . . what Is the Talon?”
Rodnay quietly says, “I do not know.”

[note: like 15 people asked what the Talon is immediately after he mentioned it, but I left this in since she was the last one to ask before he answered]

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Guarded Minds… Both Magically and Mundanely ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Rodnay quietly says, “The mage’s thoughts were in time cut off from me.”
Rodnay quietly says, “Something he wears guards them. Something I have seen before.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Zosozpage asks, “Is this something you wish us to help with?”
Rodnay looks off into the distance for a moment, as if recalling something…
Rodnay nods at Zosozpage.
Rodnay quietly says, “The shaman’s mind is fluid, dipped in darkness, and I cannot see it either.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I tried yours too.”
Rodnay nods at Raelee.
Speaking evenly to Rodnay, Raelee asks, “Why?”
Rodnay quietly says, “But Grishom Stone guards yours.”
Rodnay nods at Raelee.
Raelee glances warily around the room.
Rodnay quietly says, “I sought to know of the Talon.”
Rodnay quietly says, “The shaman wants it.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I want him to suffer.”
Rodnay squints.
Speaking to Rodnay, Irar asks, “Do you seek our aid in this?”
Speaking to Rodnay, Irar asks, “Since you are unable to touch their minds?”
Rodnay nods at Irar.
Irar nods at Rodnay.
Rodnay quietly says, “The Hall will have it.”
Speaking to Raelee, Zosozpage asks, “Can you offer anything about this talon and how we might obtain it?”
Raelee asks, “Why should I help you obtain it?”
Speaking to Raelee, Shinann asks, “Can you at least enlighten us with what you know about it?”
Speaking to Raelee, Irar asks, “Because we asked politely?”
Shinann says, “We might not want it.”
Evia asks, “Or actually why are we helping…if we are…anyone fetch it?”
Speaking amusedly to Raelee, Cruxophim reminds, “I didn’t ask.”
Ysharra says, “If the Talon is responsible even in part for what’s happened to the Kestres, none of us should be so hot to get hold of it.”
Zosozpage says, “Or destroy it whatever the case may be.”
You remind, “We don’t know what it is, why Quinshon wants it, or why Dennet wants it.”
Speaking lightly to Ysharra, Cruxophim teases, “Let’s not be hasty.”
Hapenlok says, “This is all well and good, but I rather fail to see how this is our problem. OUR meaning Wehnimer’s Landing.”
Ysharra says, “Destroying millennia old artifacts aren’t necessarily the best-laid plans, either.”
Cruxophim absently remarks, “‘What is it’ might be the first question.”
Evia asks, “Is it Quinshon that wants it? Or that other…fellow?”
Hapenlok says, “So, tell me more, if you can.”
Raelee says, “Whether or not Quinshon or Dennet should have it is one question. However, it is not for any of you to have either.”
Ysharra says, “They have a tendency to take large swathes of reality with them.”
Rodnay nods at Evia.
Speaking to Rodnay, Evia asks, “Quinshon?”
Rodnay nods at Evia.
Evia grunts.
Evia says, “Not like him.”
Rodnay tilts his head, looking at Irar.
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra asks, “How much is Dennet under Quinshon’s sway?”
Speaking to Raelee, Lornieh says, “That might be better determined if we know what it is…”
Hapenlok says, “Because I’ve got memories of plinite and dead Mages in my head right now.”
Hapenlok says, “This is what this is all leading to, as far as I’m concerned.”
Rodnay glances at Ysharra.
Rodnay shrugs.
Raelee carefully says, “… it was recovered in the ruins of Toullaire. The wizardwaste.”
You idly say, “Speaking of people being under anyone’s sway…”
Raelee says, “That is why he brought it to the Bleaklands. He thought it was… the closest equivalent to Toullaire.”
Speaking pointedly to Rodnay, you ask, “How much is Thadston under Quinshon’s sway?”
Rodnay quietly says, “I cannot touch Thadston’s mind.”
You frown.
You nod understandingly.
Evia asks, “That seems unusual, no?”
You wryly say, “Well… somehow I doubt that’s an ability of his…”
Rodnay quietly says, “Little, is usual.”

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Rodnay’s Request ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Speaking to Cruxophim, Raelee says, “… I need a promise.”
Rodnay quietly asks, “Will you take us to the Swale?”
Rodnay peers quizzically at Raelee.
Speaking to Rodnay, Raelee asks, “… why?”
Rodnay quietly says, “I will need protection and time. I will learn what is needed.”
Speaking diplomatically to Rodnay, Cruxophim agrees, “Of course.”
Cruxophim and Rodnay shake hands.
Rodnay quietly says, “I cannot reach the Hall’s archives from here. I cannot reach their mages from here.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Raelee says, “To be quite blunt, even with your powers… the information that you will find in The Swale is information I could acquire far more quickly.”
Speaking amusedly to Rodnay, Cruxophim wonders, “Did you mean gallavant over there tonight, or later?”
Rodnay quietly says, “Later.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Irar asks, “What will you do with it, if we help you obtain this thing?”
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra says, “Would you wish company, I hope? I would see Magister Svala’s home.”
Rodnay nods.
(Raelee holds up both hands in an attempt at a placating gesture.)
Rodnay quietly says, “I will need protection.”
Speaking respectfully to Raelee, Etanah asks, “You would get this information for us?”
(OOC) Cruxophim’s player whispers to the group, “Everyone offer your sword, axe, bow, whatever.”
Speaking to Etanah, Raelee says, “… maybe.”
Tercolla nods in agreement at Rodnay.
Tercolla taps the tip of his lor runestaff on the ground.
Cryheart says, “Rodnay, ye may hae my arm and greataxe.”
Speaking huskily to Rodnay, Etanah says, “I will go, you may have my spear.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Raelee says, “If I lead the lot of you into the Swale… I am going to be the one who requires protection.”
Cryheart says, “I will gladly accompany ye.”
You tap a pair of fingerless eonake-studded sylvan gloves emblazoned with leaves that you are wearing.
You nod once at Rodnay.
Speaking to Rodnay, Evia says, “I’ve got your back.”
Olemac says, “Protecting sounds interesting, and I like interesting.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Goldstr says, “Me blade be wid ye.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Irar says, “You’ll have my prayers.”
Pookia excitedly exclaims, “Ill help!”
Cotelle softly says, “Hammers at your service.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Zosozpage says, “You have my blade if needed.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Arnylon says, “I offer cheesecake.”
Ysharra says, “My wry observations.”
Speaking casually to Rodnay, Marijka says, “My swords have been bored lately, I suppose they’re yours as well.”
Pookia nods enthusiastically at Rodnay!
Speaking to Rodnay, Kipa says, “I will help to guard ya.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Lornieh says, “I will give you what protection I can.”
Cryheart says, “We can also protect ye.”
Cryheart nods at Raelee.
Hapenlok says, “Things have changed since the last time we went to the Swale, you know. Considering the person who invited us there previously….was ejected from their order, I doubt we’ll be very popular there.”
Florania quietly says, “I doubt my naginata will be of much help, but my songs may aid…”
Speaking to Cryheart, Raelee says, “… no, you cannot.”
Speaking calmly to Rodnay, Subarashi asks, “What is the purpose? Information or something else?”
Cryheart says, “We can try.”
Cryheart grins at Raelee.
Speaking to Hapenlok, Olemac says, “That makes it sound even less boring. I like it.”
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “I have seen their names.”
(Raelee is looking a little more pale than usual.)
Speaking to Rodnay, Mylenna says, “I can help with any locks you may come upon.”
Dhymil says, “If the goal is to gather information, I… wouldn’t mind going. If the danger’s surmountable.”
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “The mage has a list. The five who know, who hold pieces.”
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “Their minds will hold enough to learn what we need.”
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “They are of the Hall.”
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “Jarleth Garnier. Lander Richman. Tyshon Cooks. Redomer Svala. Richard Stefan.”
Raelee closes her eyes for a moment.
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “They hold information.”
Speaking to Raelee, Ysharra asks, “…common enough name, at home?”
Speaking to Ysharra, Raelee says, “… no.”
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “I wish to know what the Talon is.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra says, “They each hold a piece of the story.”
Rodnay nods at Ysharra.
Speaking to Rodnay, Raelee asks, “… what are you going to do to them?”
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “The mage’s mind is hidden to me.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Raelee says, “You say you need protection? Perhaps they do.”
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “No.”
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “The mage wears something of my home.”
A voice faintly whispers in your mind, “No…not my home…”
Rodnay tilts his head, looking awkwardly around for a moment.
Raelee says, “From the Ithzir vessel…”
Rodnay quietly says, “Not…not my home…”
Rodnay quietly says, “Their home.”
Cryheart asks, “Ithzir?”
Evia asks, “Ithzir …home?”
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra says, “The Ithzir.”
Rodnay nods.
Rodnay looks around, his eyelids suddenly drooping.
Rodnay quietly says, “I must sleep.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I will not harm the minds of those I need.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I will need your protection, or distraction.”
Rodnay quietly says, “They will come for me.”
Speaking huskily to Rodnay, Etanah asks, “When do you think they will come for you?”
Rodnay quietly says, “While I am there.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra says, “I have some peonies.”
Ysharra nods at Rodnay.
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra says, “The seeds keep you from dreaming. For a night or two.”
Rodnay quietly says, “The Hall.”
Rodnay quietly says, “The Chastonians.”
Rodnay grins at Ysharra.
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra says, “If you wish to have them, of course.”
Rodnay nods at Ysharra.
Ysharra removes a pink peony from in her carved ivory vasculum.
Ysharra removes a short cutting knife from in her wormwood case.
Rodnay quietly says, “They have taken my blood.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I will see to it the shaman fails.”
(Ysharra digs the tip of her knife into the fleshy seedpod under the large, tightly folded petals and withdraws a few black seeds from the core.)
Ysharra offers Rodnay a pink peony.
Rodnay accepts Ysharra’s pink peony.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Raelee’s Concerns ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Speaking to Rodnay, Raelee says, “As the mayor’s word is useless… I need yours.”
Rodnay peers quizzically at Raelee.
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra says, “At your size…about six should do.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Raelee says, “I know that if I say no, you will forge ahead with this anyway.”
Rodnay quietly says, “You are correct.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Raelee says, “… just let me talk to them first.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I do not wish their words.”
Raelee says, “To find… some agreeable solution.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I wish their thoughts.”
Raelee says, “They may not want Quinshon to have it either.”
Rodnay quietly says, “Those they may even be unaware of.”
Raelee says, “Dennet is here because he does not want them to see this.”
Rodnay quietly says, “The mage wears a ward from home.”
Rodnay quietly says, “No…not home Rodnay…”
Rodnay quietly says, “Their home.”
Rodnay quietly says, “The mage wears a ward from their home.”
Evia asks, “The Ithzir?”
Ysharra says, “They wear an Ithzir artifact.”
Rodnay quietly says, “Dennet wears it.”
Rodnay quietly says, “It bears the symbol of my people.”
Rodnay quietly says, “No…”
Rodnay quietly says, “It bears a symbol of their people.”
Speaking huskily to Rodnay, Etanah asks, “If Raelee set up a meeting with these others, could you read their minds during the meeting?”
Rodnay quietly says, “No.”
Rodnay quietly says, “There will be no peace.”
Rodnay quietly says, “They will want me.”
Rodnay quietly says, “As the other did.”
Rodnay quietly says, “They must not be allowed near me.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I will not harm them.”
Ysharra asks, “Rodnay, can you…hear Quinshon?”
Rodnay quietly asks, “Hear?”
Rodnay peers quizzically at Ysharra.
Ysharra asks, “Yes. Can you hear his thoughts?”
Rodnay quietly says, “No.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I cannot touch his mind.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra says, “I take it he doesn’t have an Ithzir artifact.”
Rodnay quietly says, “No.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I must sleep.”
Speaking to Rodnay, Ysharra asks, “Has he tried to take hold of your thoughts since you were freed?”
Rodnay quietly says, “No.”
Hapenlok says, “Let’s let the ….child sleep.”
Hapenlok says, “And I’m going to have a few sharp words afterwards.”
Rodnay quietly says, “I am not a child.”
Rodnay glances at Hapenlok.
Rodnay quietly says, “I am a force to be feared far more than your world’s artifacts.”
Rodnay moves off, his feet floating just an inch above the ground.

Note: The conversation outside Moot Hall afterward was pretty compelling and I’ll see if I can edit that down too and post it some time later today!

So frustrating. I was doing absolutely nothing important last night, and should have logged in for giggles, but me and the whole crew of people I hang with were all like “Oh, well, it’s Thursday, I guess we will just go to sleep since this isn’t a Kenstrom night.” Yay for making assumptions!

And here we have the discussion after Rodnay left.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Questions, Concerns, and Philosophies ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Hapenlok says, “Let’s let the ….child sleep.”

Hapenlok says, “And I’m going to have a few sharp words afterwards.”

Rodnay quietly says, “I am not a child.”

Rodnay glances at Hapenlok.

Rodnay quietly says, “I am a force to be feared far more than your world’s artifacts.”

Rodnay moves off, his feet floating just an inch above the ground.

Speaking to Raelee, Arnylon says, “Odd that you do not wish this but when Thadston stated he was planning on marching on the landing you were very encouraging. Funny how things turn around at times.”

Hapenlok dubiously asks, “Yes. This is true. You want us to do what? KIDNAP five Magisters and bring them to you? And risk everything we’ve rebuilt?”

Goldstr says, “Ye do be a force. I nae fears ye In trusts ye.”

Zosozpage works his fingers under his feather-trimmed hat and scratches his head.

Subarashi bites her lip.

Lornieh asks, “Perhaps we should take this discussion elsewhere and let Rodnay rest?”

Speaking huskily to Raelee, Etanah says, “I have been speaking of a peaceful meeting, do not speak to me as if I am leading the charge.”

Dalabrac grins.

You point at Goldstr.

You nod in agreement.

Elementz grips his illthorn runestaff and visibly stiffens.

Goldstr says, “Er.”

Cryheart says, “Ok..he has gone folks.”

Florania quietly says, “Seems he’s already gone.”

You feel more refreshed.

Cryheart says, “Ok..heading back to just outside Moot Hall.”

Raelee says, “The last time the populace of this town visited The Swale, a wing of the Hall ended up on fire and flooded with demons.”

Subarashi stands up.

Ysharra raises an eyebrow in Raelee’s direction.

Elementz says, “Fire and demons…”

Elementz says, “Sounds nice.”

Speaking quietly to Raelee, Hapenlok says, “And blood apple trees started to infest the place.”

[travel time, arriving at Town Square East]

Etanah huskily asks, “I seem to recall something of that. . did the citizens that entered Cause that destruction?”

[several people say good night and leave]

Desreth asks, “Is there still something inside Rodnay? And if so is it getting stronger?”

Arnylon says, “And remember. It’s ok to espouse invasion of other people’s homes by armed forces, just not your own.”

Arnylon glances at Raelee and clasps his hands in a reverent gesture.

Hapenlok says, “You know, this is why I did what I did. And this is why Maylan did what she did.”

You confusedly say, “We’re not even invading, as far as I know…”

Speaking to Arnylon, Marijka agrees, “Absolutely.”

You scratch your head.

Hapenlok says, “He’s too powerful now.”

You furrow your brow, probably adding a wrinkle or two in the process.

Hapenlok says, “And now, let me tell you what is going to happen.”

Speaking to Hapenlok, Lornieh asks, “Then a good thing to keep him on our side, yes?”

Speaking to Hapenlok, Olemac asks, “Are you afraid of it?”

You hesitantly ask, “This… isn’t an attack, right? Or have I completely misunderstood?”

You flail your arms about.

Hapenlok says, “LET me tell you what is going to happen.”

Pookia turns an inquisitive ear toward Hapenlok.

You tilt your head slightly toward Hapenlok, noting the subtle changes in his muscles and breathing.

Speaking to you, Arnylon says, “He stated multiple times it will not be peaceful. Not sure what you’d call it.”

Hapenlok says, “We’re going to do this thing for him. And it’s going to spiral way out of control.”

Zosozpage says, “It’s confusing why he’d even need us but I guess even powerful people need help I guess.”

You note, “Well, he did say they would attack him..”

Hapenlok says, “And let me tell you exactly who they’re going to send when it does…for punitive measures.”

Hapenlok says, “Malvernus, and what remains of the Imperial Drakes.”

Ramith sighs.

Lornieh blinks.

Speaking huskily to Hapenlok, Etanah asks, “Why do you think this?”

You concernedly say, “I didn’t get the impression that we were going to be doing any attacking.”

Olemac shrugs at you.

Speaking to you, Arnylon says, “We won’t. We’ll likely be defending.”

Olemac says, “These things always have a life of their own.”

You reason, “Yes, so… not an invasion.”

You nod.

Hapenlok angrily says, “And they will kill every man, woman and child in this town.”

Subarashi says, “Defending against what will likely be lawful actions.”

Subarashi says, “So, invasion.”

Etanah frowns.

Hapenlok says, “In reprisal.”

Desreth asks, “Are we helping Rodnay? Or the thing inside him?”

Speaking to you, Raelee says, “… a large group from this town will not be welcome.”

Zosozpage says, “There are few that could withstand them but there are some.”

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok asks, “Would I be somewhat correct in that assessment? If it goes the way I think it will?”

Speaking huskily to Hapenlok, Etanah asks, “I’m confused, who is going to invade and attack the Landing?”

Speaking to you, Raelee says, “I am not going to get into the finer details of precisely who is responsible for what…”

Speaking to Hapenlok, Raelee says, “I think you cast us as barbarians.”

Shinann says, “I am thinking he is part Rodnay and part Ithzir and they are merging for real now.”

You idly acknowledge, “I might not be able to come along, then…”

You shake your head.

Speaking to you, Raelee says, “… Earl Berniah Kestrel of Chastonia died at the hands of people from this town.”

Desreth observes, “Did you notice that the more active the Ithzir is, the more tired Rodnay gets?”

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok says, “I didn’t mean to, but you know as well as I do, they’re not exactly careful with their Arts when it comes to battle.”

Shinann nods at Desreth.

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok says, “Okay, maybe they are.”

You quietly say, “I don’t go where I’m not welcome unless there are–really exceptional circumstances. This might not be one…”

Raelee says, “… The Black Diabolist, coming from this town, attacked the Hall.”

Etanah cocks her head at Raelee.

Hapenlok says, “A raiding party and Rooks attacked the Hall at sea.”

Speaking huskily to Raelee, Etanah asks, “Is that why you dislike our town so much?”

Speaking to you, Raelee says, “From their perspective, when people from this town arrive in Chastonia… people start dying.”

Speaking to Raelee, Arnylon says, “He did. Just as scores of citizens from Wehnimer’s Landing died at the hand of Thadston and the golems from the outpost. Funny how sometimes when two sides differ in opinion that bad things occur.”

You steeple your fingers, quietly observing your surroundings.

You embarrassedly say, “I see… I’ll have to think on this more.”

You glance down.

Speaking to Raelee, Arnylon says, “An attack by Thadston that you encouraged.”

Speaking to Arnylon, Shinann says, “That is not Thadston.”

Speaking quietly to Arnylon, Raelee says, “If you knew anything about what I actually do here, you would know I did not encourage it. I tried to stop it. The mayor will vouch for that.”

Speaking huskily to Raelee, Etanah asks, “Is that why you dislike our town so much?”

Speaking to Shinann, Arnylon says, “Then it is even more despicable she would encourage whatever inhabits Thadston to have attacked the Landing.”

Zosozpage says, “I doubt she’d be standing here if that were the case.”

Speaking huskily to Raelee, Etanah asks, “Because someone from this town attacked your countrymen?”

Speaking to Etanah, Raelee says, “My list is far longer.”

Hapenlok says, “Well, it didn’t help. But I don’t think she ever liked it here.”

Hapenlok nods at Etanah.

Speaking to Hapenlok, Raelee says, “That is correct.”

Speaking to Arnylon, Shinann says, “You do not know the whole story.”

Etanah cocks her head at Raelee.

Speaking to Raelee, Hapenlok says, “And I still respect the hell out of you. Even though there’s moments when I want to wring your neck.”

Hapenlok winks at Raelee.

Speaking to Raelee, Arnylon says, “I was standing right beside you when you said if the plinite was not handed over with due haste that Thadston had every right to come into town and use whatever methods and means he saw fit to attempt to obtain it. Which he did, and he killed scores of citizens. Him and his golems. I’m sorry, I missed where you went against that.”

Speaking huskily to Raelee, Etanah says, “Maybe you should not judge an entire town, an entire town of New citizens since that time, for something someone else did.”

Lornieh nods in agreement.

Etanah shakes her head.

Speaking to Raelee, Arnylon says, “Please. When you are done talking out both sides of your mouth. You can come find me. Good evening, miss.”

Arnylon’s group just went west.

Etanah gives a sigh of sadness.

You diplomatically comment, “She did say that’s the perspective of that town, not her own necessarily…”

Etanah cocks her head at you.

Lornieh says, “Hard to accuse citizens of something that were not responsible or present.”

Desreth frowns.

Hapenlok says, “And maybe I exaggerated a bit about what Malvernus and the Drakes would do. But I tell you, if it ever came to it. The loss of life would be severe.”

Raelee says, “If you insist upon taking this personally, rather than looking at it from a broader perspective… this will turn bad, quickly.”

Shinann says, “I am thinking confronting the Hall is not a good idea. I have to know more, however.”

Raelee says, “It does not matter what I think.”

Subarashi nods in agreement at Shinann.

Raelee says, “What matters is how the populace of The Swale will react to an uninvited group from this town suddenly appearing given all that has occurred.”

Hapenlok says, “See, I counted at least a dozen people who offered their sword arms to Rodnay, without even knowing why.”

Speaking to Raelee, Olemac says, “If you think there’s any way this goes well, you should reconsider.”

Hapenlok says, “Makes me wonder if their minds are being controlled.”

Subarashi nods in agreement.

Speaking to Olemac, Raelee says, “It will not.”

Subarashi says, “I doubt it goes that far.”

Subarashi nods at Hapenlok.

Desreth asks, “Did anyone even question if this should be done or not?”

Shinann slowly empties her lungs.

Desreth says, “Usually that’s the first step.”

Hapenlok says, “And if it ever comes to it, it’s a dozen more people I may have to count as enemies. Because I might just have to stop the lot of you.”

Subarashi says, “I think it’s the town. The frontier attitude has its downside to go with the merits.”

Speaking to Desreth, Raelee says, “… I am certainly trying.”

Speaking distantly to Desreth, you say, “That seems to be what we’re hashing out now…”

Olemac glances at Hapenlok.

You sigh.

Shinann says, “Yes. Just was thinking to Rodnay, however.”

You heavily say, “And for some reason I’m starting to find myself on the side of ‘no’…”

You shake your head.

Hapenlok takes a slow, deep breath then pinches the bridge of his nose.

Hapenlok sighs, “What a mess.”

Desreth says, “It just seems there is a lot hidden. And the problem with mind reading…”

Raelee glances between Subarashi and Shinann.

Desreth says, “You don’t know if you are getting the full story from the reader.”

Hapenlok says, “Knowing then, what I know now? And I don’t give a rip if my head explodes for saying it.”

Subarashi calmly says, “If we provoke combat, even if it’s coming from ignorance on the part of the Hall and the Chastonians, we’re the aggressors. I’m not willing to be part of that.”

Subarashi says, “Not in their home.”

Speaking distantly to Subarashi, you say, “Precisely my concern… I don’t know if I can help this time…”

You sigh heavily.

Hapenlok says, “When we pulled that boy out of the cocoon, I would have ended him myself, if I ever had suspected that it would have come to this.”

You regretfully say, “Even though earlier I was encouraging Rodnay in my thoughts to go through with it…”

Olemac frowns at Hapenlok.

Elementz grins at you.

Speaking to Subarashi, Zosozpage says, “We’re supposed to defend him and not be aggressors.”

You scrub your hand through your shoulder length bright red hair in frustration.

Hapenlok says, “This is far worse than I ever expected things to go.”

Zosozpage works his fingers under his feather-trimmed hat and scratches his head.

Shinann nods slowly.

You shake your head.

Speaking to Hapenlok, Marijka reminds, “A lot of us were expecting to die tonight. It’s going far better in that regard than I thought we had any right to hope for.”

Speaking to Zosozpage, Subarashi says, “If we’re in their home, we’re the aggressors.”

Subarashi ponders.

Marijka lightly adds, “Besides, a spot of home invasion sounds like fun.”

Speaking to Subarashi, Olemac asks, “Does the shield provoke the blade by standing in front of a man?”

You distantly say, “I’ll go clear my mind. I really don’t know what to make of this at all…”

Elementz says, “If Raelee truly wanted to stop anyone in her home from getting involved violently, she could have offered her mind for probing and take off the protective metal.”

Elementz shrugs.

Elementz says, “But what do I know.”

Speaking to Zosozpage, Shinann says, “I have not committed myself to anything yet. Not enough information, by far.”

Speaking to Subarashi, Zosozpage says, “That’s open to interpretation but unfortunately, not ours.”

You wish, “Rest well, everyone, when you get to that time.”

You nod once.

You wave.

Subarashi asks, “If our militia was arresting someone from out of town and they started a battle over it, would the militia be the aggressors?”

Speaking to Elementz, Raelee says, “… I do not have all of the information he wants. It would stop nothing.”

Subarashi slowly empties her lungs.

[here Leafiara leaves, so if any other interesting arguments were hashed out afterward, someone else will have to cover them]

Not much more than that. Except Hapenlok making sure that it was clear that death was a possibility for anyone intent on taking part in the shenanigans.

Ooc remarks:
I may have painted myself in a corner here, at least there’s a good chance that meteor swarm won’t crash the game unlike the Teclys incident, which broke gemstone.
