A labored grunt escaped the bundle of clothing as it climbed up a large granite block that had fallen from some long forgotten part of the now crumbling tower. Broken and cracked, the tower had long ago seen its best days and passed them. Now only a few parts of the wall stood about two stories tall, a pale shadow of its former self. The bundle of clothing clutched a long tree branch tied with a dingy white cloth as it started up the wall. After what seemed like an eternity it reached the top and planted the flag between two loose stones, proudly presenting it for all to see as they approached the west road.

“Poor Cobb, the most sand-covered mongrel kobold of them all…” The words echoed slightly against the wall and added an addition gravitas to them. “If only he had more time with us.” Ordim let out a sigh as he reached into his satchel and pulled out a shiny muffin tin. “He came to us one night, begging for help as a ‘Big Bad northern kobold’ beat him and threatened to take the west road for his own.” A sniffle broke his pause and he continued “We used to laugh and laugh about how he would need to find someone else, citing ‘little one broken’, but we all knew it was in good fun and that is what made Cobb the best kobold of Solhaven.” Ordim continued to eulogize to no one as he sat upon the stone tower’s highest wall remaining.

“Even as people gathered, he would laugh and joke and keep a very strong appearance, right up until he fell over dead, his broken and bleeding leg having never been properly attended to.” Painful twitches wracked his small body as he blurted out “Little lacerated legs leave lasting lashes” until he was finally able to regain control and proceed. “It seems like forever ago that Sir Mynon, Mibby, Deckits, Tarali, Matriarch Berkana, Talinvor, Sweetsin, Limorten…”
Ordim took a deep breath before finishing “and myself, set off to check if the ‘Big Bad’ had taken up in the beached hulk, or nearby.” Reaching into the muffin tin, Ordim withdrew a freshly baked warm bran muffin. He briefly inspected it, and apparently content with it, gave it a nod and placed it next to the makeshift “peace flag”.

“We were set upon by strange sand covered, sigil marked, and painted critters that normally roam the beach. Crabs, water occultists, water witches, and even Fenghai came in waves, commanded by the dorkiest voice that every cried about being left out.” Ordim’s eyes narrowed as his voice took upon a more agitated tone. “That’s when we finally fought our way back towards town and came upon the ‘Big Bad’, his blue magical necklace and all, as he cried about how Fionola, Kayse, Lord Huebald, Mibby, Sorrenn, Tarali, Mellny, Lady Divone, Limorten, Deckits, Sir Mynon, Cordaleigh, and myself…” Another deep breath broke up the growing tirade. “We all argued back and forth until the very road itself had had enough and shot the necklace off the kobold, reducing him to the cutest little kobold we had ever seen! Embarrassed about how cute he was, he ran off, crying about how he was going to tell his mom and come back to get us, one day, maybe…” Ordim giggled a bit to himself before gazing westward towards the ocean. “We’ll miss you Cobb!”

I loved this report. Especially the sentient and locomotive bundle of clothing 🙂
