Subj: Mayor's Minutes [RE: The Shadow Realm and Aralyte, Thadston's Incursion, Suspicions of Dennet's Dark Magic, An Advisor Resigns and Another Joins, Yet Another Kidnapping, Thanks to Leafiara, and a Request for a Joint Meeting.]

Posted within the Lobby of Moot Hall is a Public Notice, written in pale ink on a glossy black parchment. The Notice is dated for the 25th of Imaerasta in the Year 5117, and reads as follows:

Esteemed Citizens and Allies of the Landing,

Last evening brought quite a bit of chaos to our town and beyond, as I’m sure many of you are aware. The long-pending arrival of the Tehir shaman Teuriz (at Magister Bekke’s prior request) heralded the beginning of a rescue mission to extract Acorn from the Shadow Realm, a dark valence of unrelenting chaos and corruption that was once the realm of Althedeus. Once gathered, Teuriz utilized Evia’s black veins — a disfiguration which she still bears in grim reminder of the last incursion — as a “guide” of sorts to open the path. Within the Shadow Realm, Lylia’s soulstone revealed the boy trapped in a pool of blood and shadow; this soulstone was once an artifact of the Palestra Blade Aralyte, a warrior of the Palestra who sacrificed herself for the egress of those seeking to unravel Althedeus during the last incursion, but was left in Lylia’s capable hands for safekeeping. The boy was lifted into the arms of Magister Bekke and the others with the aid of a Faendryl woman within the pool, believed to be none other than the long-lost Blade, but the boy’s savior was tragically lost to the dark mire in the process.

I am thankful to report that despite a heavy but expected toll, the mission was ultimately successful; however, I would advise caution to any who entered therein, as the corrosive effects of the Shadow Realm have been known to leave dire scars upon both the body and psyche as a result of even the briefest of exposures. I would also like to express my personal thanks to those who volunteered in incidental and exploratory task during this exhaustive mission, and hope to provide more public details on the potential progress of that matter in future.

It has been reported to me that during this mission of mercy, Commander Thadston was encountered searching for the stolen plinite within the Burrow Way tunnels, despite stark warnings against such a course of action during our last meeting. Accompanied by an entourage of golems, Hendoran knights, and a group of other individuals, I am given to understand that this conflict resulted in a great deal of inevitable bloodshed within the tunnels… bloodshed which could have been avoided. I am still verifying eyewitness accounts of the evening, if any wish to offer them, but I presume Captains Shinann and Stormyrain may be taking more official depositions if they so choose. While jurisdictional matters are a bit of a grey area regarding the tunnels, it is my opinion that this was in direct violation of a good faith agreement between myself — as a representative of our town — and the Outpost; this is not the first such violation, and while it is my sincere desire to maintain a cordial and mutually beneficial alliance with our Hendoran neighbors, this action clearly demonstrates a continued lack of regard for that alliance. The incident is further compounded by the fact that such bloodshed was for naught, as the stolen plinite had already been recovered (as per the aforementioned good faith agreement) and is currently being held until it can be properly returned and transferred to the Hall of Mages.

On a similar subject, I have been approached by Geijon of the Order of the Silver Gryphon regarding his concerns — and the concerns of others — for the manner of magic used recently by Grand Magister Dennet Kestrel to restore his son, Cyph Kestrel, to some modicum of health. I will be providing him with a private report of my clinical observations of said practices; the classification of such a ritual as a type of necromancy forbidden from practice within the Empire’s domain is a difficult and contentious one, given the experimental nature of the procedure, but I will do my best to present such in as neutral a manner as possible given my position.

One of my appointed Advisors, Hospitallier Dirra Crawford, has recused herself from the position of Advisor in Imperial Matters, due to a stated potential conflict of interests; as she informed me when she began, her loyalty lies first and foremost to the Empire, and I certainly do not begrudge our friend and ally her chosen allegiances. While I will miss her sage counsel, I am sympathetic to and understand her decision, and I wish her well in all future endeavors. Additionally, I am appointing Kayse to officially fill Rowmi‘s role as Advisor, in light of his departure from our fair town, and will be seeking a new Advisor in Imperial Matters soon.

Lady Drandea is currently a guest of our Militia, in the wake of a prior incident where Hendoran soldiers attempted to detain her within our walls for both threats against myself and Grand Magister Dennet, and physical evidence concerning the alleged poisoning of Carenos; the incident itself within the Raging Thrak Inn was defused, thankfully, and she is currently no longer under lawful detainment — as I am given to understand it — but rather, in voluntary custody due to her to role in offering testimony against Grand Magister Dennet Kestrel regarding certain allegations. As it currently stands, I have full confidence in the ability of our Militia and the Honorable Judge Renpaw to handle this matter in a lawful and diligent manner.

One of our citizens, Lornieh, was recently abducted by parties unknown, and discovered outside of town in a brutalized and amnesiac state; while the matter remains an ongoing investigation, concern regarding a connection to the recent disappearance of several townspeople — and the violent death of Lana — has understandably raised concerns.

Given the high volume of incidents that transpire daily within our fair town, I would like to offer my personal thanks to Advisor Leafiara for her ever-vigilant reports of these many incidents and surrounding rumors; her level of detail and consistency in collecting and transcribing such has been a huge boon to both myself and others, I’m sure, and for such I am grateful for the assistance that it offers.

This evening of Volnes the 25th, I would like to request a joint meeting with both my Advisors and the Militia Captains, at their availability, to discuss several ongoing matters we are dealing with at present. This will likely be a private meeting, but I will be more than happy to speak to any who wish to offer opinions or ask questions regarding current events in my office afterwards.
