Subj: A challenge to Voln

Lord Legionnaire Commander Cyak,

On the 15th of Phoenatos at roughly twenty-one forty, the Fortress was attacked by a horde of undead. The evening started peaceful enough with Inner Sanctum and Moonstone Abbey coming together to assist folks with their bounty tasks. With myself and Squire Legionnaire Krystalena the only reservists on patrol, the additional forces from the event were greatly needed. The roar of thunder broke the silence as lightning filled the eastern sky, an ocean of rain soon followed. Squire Krystalena and I formed up on Annatto Gate at first, we could barely see the guards standing next to us the rain was so heavy.

A foul stench wafted through the air, I sent Squire Krystalena to report to Vermilion Gate where first contact was made. A woman with honeyed words promised peace but gave only violence. Squire Krystalena quickly struck her down, I arrived on the bridge to find Squire Krystalena surrounded by undead. A call to light the beacon went out as the Fortress was called to arms. Reinforcements arrived by the way of citizens and civilians alike. The fighting became worse as a voice called out, taunting us, calling our patrons weak. Froggai had mentioned hearing the voice mention Voln specifically. When brought up in the Court the next evening, Daenalan mentioned hearing the same. The voice asked why follow Voln when he is only a man? We were able to push the undead back but the whole time we could hear the voice taunting.

Tonight, the 17th of Phoenatos another storm struck Ta’Vaalor and with it came more hordes of undead. We were able to fight a bandon through their forces and position at the bridge outside Vermilion Gate. There we were able to hold off their stronger ranks of lich and apparitions. Skeletons and lesser ghouls charged onward to the gates to find another group of defenders waiting. The gate was never breached.

Sir, we were never able to find the source of the voice. When asked what it was, the only reply we received was “Vengeance.” Why this Vengeance seems to be attacking Ta’Vaalor with it’s hordes of undead has yet to be seen. I worry we may be facing a similar foe as the one from Shadowguard. Siierra mentioned hearing Vengeace say he was looking for someone strong. I fear we may be facing another entity from Shadowguard.

P.S.
Daenalan had brought up an interesting theory before drill. Perhaps it is Luukos’ voice we have been hearing, challenging Voln to fight.
