Subj: Icemule Trace Events Report – 11-10-17
Day of the Huntress, 10 Eoantos 5117

From the journal of Oubar Il’Prelay, Originator of White Haven

It ended up being a rather… eventful evening. While going through my evening ablutions, I heard a din arise near the South Gate. I went to investigate the matter, and found a group of individuals beset by, of all things, wild foxes. These creatures had somehow bypassed the guard (who, shockingly, was actually AT his post for a change) and were trickling into town. We banded together quickly (as Icemule folk do) and made short work of them, but it wasn’t long before there were more… well, I’ll call them things. They were all vaguely familiar, but seemed to be altered versions of some of the known creatures around Elanthia. Our group, led by Azerik, trekked to each of the four gates in turn, beating back in the incursions. Over time, the weather itself seemed to be conspiring against us. While I do love a good snowstorm, it was honestly getting a little out of control. As the night got later, the creatures seemed to increase in power. Our group, though, made short work of them, and we had only a single casualty. I did manage to lose an arm, but a couple of healers had joined up, so it proved not to be a problem. About halfway through we recruited Roblar, which of course made us all breathe a little easier. Given that the threats seemed to be ever-increasing, it was a relief to have the Commander in our midst.

In the midst of all this, there appeared four orbs on pedestals… one each at the North and South gates, and a couple of steps both east and west from the center of town. These appear to be some sort of barely-contained energy, as they crackle and spit at random intervals. All attempts at interacting with them have failed to this point, and we tried just about everything. Nobody saw them arrive, they just sprang into being as far as we can tell. As we beat back the last of the invasion forces, all attention centered on these orbs. Naturally, speculation arose that Hibbits had something to do with the whole thing, but there seemed to be no proof… at least at first. While it’s hardly proof positive, voices in the distance could be heard sporadically chanting Hibbits’ name. There was some confusion among our group as to whether the voices were chanting in SUPPORT of the Interim Mayor, or if they were instead trying to track him down. The voices died down fairly quickly, however.

Once most of the excitement died down, Azerik shared some visions he experienced regarding the state of the town. They seemed quite appropriate, and rather timely. I’ll transcribe them here, as I’m thinking about sharing this entry with the town.

The orbs remain, and we will see what the Lady sends us today. I know that the town will rally together… either with or against Hibbits. I remain unconvinced of his motives, but I am willing to wait and see, for now.

Transcription of Azerik’s relating of his visions:

Come sit next to me for a moment and I may be able to tell a short story.

I looked into the past. Maybe the creators, maybe the towns. I saw danger. A situation unseen and hard to escape from without help.

For I look at the now I see a tower. Stuck by lightning. A feeble structure coming down to be rebuilt again.

The rebuilding will be done by two opposing forces and one person in control of those forces.

But that person must get past everyone’s pre-judgement.

Or they will fail.

If they can break through there is a lot of positive energy that can be harness for their endeavor.

As the people asking the questions we must rally behind each other to overcome this challenge.

And the last vision is a vision of peace and victory.

We shall not fail in this task. We are the north, the cold, and we are hardened by it yet we are soft and caring. We will overcome all odds.

OOC Version: Last night we had a ‘friendly’ invasion. Necios was nice to us, and didn’t push the “kill everything” button. We had fun, and the orbs are full of ambient messaging. Very mysterious, especially with the voices in the distance chanting Hibbits’ name. I’m loving the activity in Icemule, and am looking forward to seeing where it goes.

What a great unity we saw in our Citizens last night. Icemule Trace will never be conquered as we share a common goal–to survive not only the elements, but whatever threatens our existence. And for all the work we did–not one glimpse of this “acting Mayor” Seems safe to say that we did not need him anyway.

OOC: Nice to see everyone of all levels involved! Great start to what will be an exciting chapter in Icemule’s history. Thank you Necios and all that worked to help with this evening.

From the Desk of the Mayor

Icemule Trace
11th Eoantos in the year 5117

Citizens of Icemule Trace:

It has come to my attention that a slew of creatures with little regard for halfling lives made it past our town’s defenses last night. I find this fairly disconcerting, as our town’s walls have not been breached for at least a decade. You have my word that I will look into how this could have happened, and what can be done to prevent it from happening again. There was also a report from one citizen that a gate guard was crying out about his lack of combat training, and inability to defend the gate. This is quite serious, and will be looked into. These guards hold our lives in their hands every day, and if they are truly unable to perform their duties, it’s a travesty that must be rectified at once.

With regard to the rumors of voices chanting my name from the shadows last night, I can only assume they were shouting “Hibbits” in support of my efforts to lead this proud city forward despite Nihala’s maladies. I am confused by these whisperings of “orbs of power” about town. I am aware of no such things. I wonder if those who speak of having seen them are suffering some kind of post-invasion trauma, or are otherwise imagining them.

I remain steadfast in my concern for the unprecedented amount of snowfall, unheard of even for our frigid mountain town, and I encourage us all to continue to remain vigilant, just as we were last night. Stay at the ready should we be required to come together again; trust that I will continue to be by your side defending our home as I was mere hours ago.

Last, though many have petitioned me for information, I have no updates on Mayor Nihala, but my assistants continue to report that they are tending to her needs.

I will address these and other issues during my upcoming appearance at Clovertooth Hall.

Signed,
Hibbits Hoft
Interim Mayor of Icemule Trace

If the mayor thinks the walls have not been breached in a decade, he is sorely mistaken. Has he already forgotten about the mad mage with the Prisma Relics? The V’tullian monks coming to town? That was quite the breach of the town’s defenses. Icemule was swarmed with elementals. This was within the last year. I’m the owner of one of the three prisma relics, so I think I would know.

His post is full of untruths!

I think it was revealing his character 😉

I think this tells us everything we need to know…

>Hibbits exclaims, “Ooh, a tart!”

Hibbits accepts Niadja’s snowberry tart.

>Hibbits sniffs at his snowberry tart.

>Hibbits carefully places a kumys-glazed snowberry tart on the ground.

>Hibbits stomps on the tart until it is nothing but a stain in the snow.
