Hi friends,

I cleaned up a few issues with the mechanical crossbows. You can no longer load in the wrong ammo. Also, if you LOOK at the item, it may show up differently. This is to allow things like the necrotic haze from ensorcell to show up properly.

Any issues let me know! Happy cocking!

Hey Vanah! I think there is a math or 0 vs. 1 issue or something here. I bugged this in game as well!

>load my ruic crossbow
But your ruic heavy crossbow can only hold up to five bolts!

>examine my crossb
You see a bronze-worked ruic heavy crossbow which is cocked and loaded with a dark butternut wooden bolt fletched with black-banded brown hawk feathers.
A fine example of gnomish ingenuity and workmanship, this ruic heavy crossbow displays curved polished bronze arms extending outward from the stock and is capped at the front with a polished bronze stirrup. Large oval cams of golvern are wrapped in the bowstring that stretches across a network of brushed brass gears set amid either arm and into the interior of the crossbow. Aligned atop the stock are a pair of rose gold crystal lenses serving as sights, with a small trigger extending from the underside of the weapon. There are 4 additional bolts loaded, and no room for more.
You see nothing unusual, except for a small enchanter’s glyph.

However, if I completely unload the crossbow I can remove 5 bolts and then I can load them all back in and it says there are 5. My normal usage is to fire 1 bolt then load it right back in. I can do some more specific testing if needed to pinpoint the issue but basically this occurred over and over during my hunt today so maybe it’s something easy to find (with the fix being to completely unload then reload to get it to say 5).

For reference:

>analyze my crossbow
You analyze your ruic heavy crossbow and sense that the item is largely free from merchant alteration restrictions.

The creator has also provided the following information:

MECHANICAL CROSSBOWS

These crossbows are of gnomish craftsmanship, and very
intricate. Any alteration should be along with this theme.

Bows should have a wooden stock, metallic gears and arms
with crystal lenses for sights.

If altering these, you may ONLY change the base 15/15/15
and the settings below.

It is unlocked to Tier 2. It cannot be unlocked again.
It can now be loaded with up to 5 bolts at a time.
COCK roundtime is reduced based on crossbow type.
You can now: WEAR, REMOVE, POINT, POKE, RUB, PULL, PUSH

Metal Gears = brushed brass
Metal Cams = golvern
Metal Arms/Stirrup = polished bronze
Crystal Sights = rose gold

You can tell that the crossbow is as light as it can get.

1 + 4 = 5

Unfortunately, the way the LOOK verb is coded, this is the way it has to work if we want the ensorcel to show up properly. The first line, “You see a bronze-worked ruic heavy crossbow which is cocked and loaded with a dark butternut wooden bolt fletched with black-banded brown hawk feathers.” is hard-coded in the LOOK verb. The original coder took the route that overwrote the hard-coded stuff to show that there were 5 bolts, but lost the ensorcel. I would prefer to show the ensorcel, but then we run into this problem.

I figured that since only one bolt is cocked at a time, it is okay that it shows you it being cocked and loaded with the active bolt, and that there are 4 more additional bolts ready to go.
