Cleric Link Gives Interesting Clue About Hibbits’ Soul
Interesting clerical link revelation comes to night from Saturday night’s resurrection of Hibbits – and I know it’s going to be SUCH a surprise, but the Acting Interim Temporary Mayor may not be as all put together and in charge as he tries to seem:

I got the following message when I linked with him:“For one fleeting moment as your soul touches Hibbits’s soul, you feel an overwhelming sense of fright and desperation. Then a wave of blissful calmness settles upon you as you sense your souls have linked together, an image flashes before you, but it is gone before it can be recognized.”
I think he may be in the service of (or captured by) a dark power. He certainly is not a follower of the master of herbs and flowers.

ic: Regarding last night: Hibbits did indeed charge to the gates while they were being breached and did die in a room full of nasties. But he was alone at the time, I believe, so whether he was sacrificed to build credibility or died bravely fending off attackers, I can’t say. I can say that if it was a sacrifice, they made a thorough job of it by removing one leg and inflicting several other wounds. He didn’t have a staff, weapon, or shield drawn, but having forgotten to wield one myself on occasion I suppose that isn’t proof of anything. He was raised at Voln and not Town Center which is just another piece of evidence, along with the apparent inability to see the orbs and such, showing that he’s maybe the least perceptive person in Elanthia. He wasn’t very talkative after being restored to life (mostly observing that he was “too old for this”) and shortly thereafter said he was retiring to the safety of Clovertooth Hall. I know at least one person attempted to seek him out there and was unable to find him.
Shortly after the apparition merged with the weird platform in Town Center, the weird platform became a weird dome. Shortly after that, lightning struck the zombie mayor, which he shook off, after he had splattered the dome with some blood. Later, more lightning converted lovely Maylan to lovely dust. I would hope that item one on ICICLE’s agenda will be an investigation and attempted removal or taming of said dome. I know there are many important issues, such as snow in Icemule and the procurement of enchanted wood for sleds, but if our citizens are going to be turned into a fine paste while sitting in the town’s gathering place, I humbly suggest it move to the top of the list.

While I can’t comment on the truth of his relationship with dark powers, the verbiage you got is one of the standard failure messages. Whatever his deity status is (or custom messaging he might have), you failed the roll to see it. It’s a hidden roll based on INT and Religion lore, though it’s always been a bit mysterious, since both characters in a link get a roll to see the alignment of the other. It’s always been unclear to me whether religion lore increases your likeliness of seeing the other’s alignment messaging or if it increases the other’s likelihood of seeing your alignment (which also makes sense, if training in Religion lore implies a stronger devotion to your CONVERTed deity). Or both.
It’d definitely be very cool for NPCs with links to higher powers to have customized messaging for 308 links, now you mention it. Since custom 308 messaging is a thing now, I really want to see storyline NPCS and other recurring GM-run characters to have it (if it makes sense for the character). It’s a neat thing, and plays up the intimate nature of directly touching someone’s soul.

PS this storyline looks really cool, and it’s neat to notice things going on when I’m in Icemule.
