Aydan Agrees With Rysys

Aydan summarizes Rysus’ plan from Tuesday night – and sit down, he’s agreeing with the Rooks’ leader:

Of all the things that happened last night (there was also the mobilization of the so-called Faithkeepers, the replacement of Rone’s statue with one of Chaston, the placement of the former half-elf and half-krolvin prisoners near the barracks, and Brieson speaking with everyone and wanting to hold a brainstorming session regarding things blight and Raznel-related tonight) the news that Rysus brought is the topic I’d like to discuss a bit here at the moment, because it seems like we have some time to work this out.

He said that he had gotten word that the Emperor has mustered the Imperial Army and it is en-route to Talador, with an expected arrival sometime early next month (aka, post-EG.) He suggested that the folks of the Landing take the opportunity provided by the chaos of the Imperial Army clashing with that of the Inquisition to make the strike against the blood marble mines.

Make sure you’re sitting down right now.

Are you? Okay.

Despite what will no doubt be another time that Rysus isn’t doing something out of the goodness of his heart (though self-preservation may be motivating him at the moment), I agree with him. It’s a sound idea and I think it should be done.

Once you’ve recovered from your shock, here is my reason for agreeing that it’s worth pursuing: there’s a very real chance, based on what the previous attempt to locate Raznel showed, that those mines double as a den of stinking Raznel evil. Given what we saw in the visions of the fall of Lolle, and what we’ve personally experienced when both Chaston and Raznel have personally taken to the field, the Army is going to be up against some very nasty dark magic. While I would always bet on the capability of the modernized Imperial Army in a set piece battle, I’m not certain they truly realize what they’re up against.

If the mines truly are a focal point for Raznel’s power, taking it out may very well turn the battle in favor of the Imperial Army. While there would still be problems elsewhere (fanatics in the Empire and the Landing both to deal with, for example) a victory there would very likely break the military strength of the Blameless, and in turn the Inquisition as a whole.

So yes, I think the idea has merit.

Rysus also said that he believed he could learn where Earl Jovery was being kept prisoner, and suggested that a simultaneous effort while the aforementioned attack occurs could liberate him. A moment after he mentioned it, one of his little urchin messengers that Chaston had taken Lady Saraphene, (Thadston’s ex-wife, Ambrus’ current wife, and Disean’s mother) into custody. Considering that I had actually been intending to approach Sir Thadston about looking into getting her out of Talador, I’m a bit miffed at him getting to her first.

Despite some aspects of our recent multi-pronged approach not unfolding as well as could have been hoped, we did ultimately accomplish our intended goals this past weekend. I think we should try this again.

My proposal then, would be that the forces mustered by the Landing (militia and others) make the primary assault on the mines. Hitting Chaston and Raznel rignt where it’ll hopefully hurt the most seems a fitting role for those who have been affected the most by their machinations.

Any possibility that I might also suggest this because it could also improve the overall standing and impression of the Landing in the eyes of the Empire is pure fabrication. I would never suggest something that would favor the town so much.

Given the ties to the Silver Gryphons and others who associate closely with them, it would make the most sense that they would have the most interest in rescuing Earl Jovery. Matters of honor and such.

And as for Lady Saraphene, I’d still like to look into the possibility of rescuing her from Chaston and evacuating her from Talador. Compared to hitting the mines and restoring Earl Jovery, her rescue can’t compare in importance in the grand scheme of things.

But she’s also the shared, and I feel the last remaining thread tying three very broken men to what remains of their humanity. If by saving her we can save them, I would like to look into doing this.

Regardless of whether others agree with my proposals, I do suggest we try and hold another planning meeting to determine how to proceed. Perhaps the evening of the 1st or the 2nd of next month? Hopefully by then we might have some more intel to work with on these fronts.

Would like to put down on the record the idea of attacking the mines came from us the players while planning with Thrayzar. Rysus was brought in as a source of explosive orbs which have already been gathered. So yes the town was already ready to deal damage there we just needed the time. We now have it.

I was around late enough to hear about the earl and agree the gryphons should focus on getti g him back. As for the ex wife…my only worry is that she will be a distraction for thadston if he was to add his weight to saving the earl. The guy isnt the most stable as it is and this may pudh him over. We also have ambuis running arou d which is another variable to worry about. I think she falls into secondary goals and not a primary one.

I also agree that in the grand scheme the other goals are more important.

And while it may be little more than a secondary goal, it’s still one that will pay some worthwhile dividends related to the above grander scheme. Particularly in regard to Thadston keeping it together when it’s needed the most, as he almost certainly has to be part of this.

Hence my willingness to head up this particular aspect. Plus, given the possibility of the hammer dropping on Vornavis before long, it’d be pretty irresponsible of me to commit to being involved in something larger just to have to possibly abandon it because the Barony is attacked.

But attempting to rescue someone that’s important to a friend and brother-in-arms, who in turn will be important to the greater battle as a whole? And maybe salvage what remains of his broken son? Yeah. That’s important enough to me to be worth trying if we can.

Blameless Bowling. We take turns thr- I mean rolling Hapenlok down into the mines to see how many crusaders get knocked over. They’re even the right color.
