GM Auchand adds a few nifty things for our favorite Sea of Fire adventures.

The Sanctum of the Scales is open to the world.

Long the domain of the Arch-Lich Tseleth and his order, the Sand Snakes, the Sanctum has been corrupted by the magics of the Ur-Daemon. There is only one cure for the madness of those who dwell there: their blood must flow!

This capped hunting ground is accessible via the new caravan system from Wehnimer’s Landing and Solhaven. You’ll have to wander through the raging elements of the Sea of Fire, but skilled adventurers can find their way to the Sanctum gates and engage its mixture of living and undead foes. Those who venture into the Sanctum routinely can collect and charge special periapts by hunting there. These will open a portal from a Luukosian holy site beneath Solhaven to the Sanctum and vice versa, allow for easy transport to Elanthia’s newest hunting ground.

Fight the corrupted forces of Luukos, and avoid getting transformed into a ravenous lurk along the way.

Be wary of murder, treachery, and the occasional disarm maneuver whilst there!

Special thanks to all of the GameMasters who made the Sanctum possible:

Galene, Haliste, and Kenstrom, for their aid in painting the Sanctum.

Coase for a tremendous job QCing the mechanical side of the project, and Xayle for her work QCing the environs.

Really digging this and its release. My night was a bit frustrating due to missing most of the release event itself thanks to death, though in the end I’m glad I didn’t log out the several times over I considered it.

I absolutely love the concept of lurks and found it be kind of an insanely surreal and deliciously disgusting experience to have my character’s body ‘worn’ and forcefully moved room to room, unable to talk. I’ve also seen some other really cool clips of corpses being messed with, which makes my shriveled black Luukosian heart flutter with glee.

My only complaints about mechanics:

1) The combination of not being able to observe a room/interact with rescuers PLUS disarm mechanics is beyond frustrating. I’d like to be able to at least tell someone, “HEY GET THIS HIGHLY VALUABLE THING AND DON’T WORRY ABOUT KILLING THAT LURK”, but I had no way of being able to do that when, well, it happened to me, heh. Personally, I’d much rather see disarm mechanics changed to not actually disarm and instead cause a massive ailment that effectively renders weapons unusable, but for whatever reason this system seems to maintain its popularity among staff.

2) The inability to acquire a way back FROM the Sea of Fire without silvers was likewise incredibly frustrating. I have heard that this may have already been changed so that the return trip requires no payment. Tonight especially with hectic attempts at rescuing people made that a monumental nightmare. (And it’s actually the reason I died several times over, and lost a valuable item, just trying to get silvers to several stranded people so they could also leave.)

But overall, A++, will explore this place again. I’m looking forward to that day in 5 years when I finally cap and can look around a place I’ve always wanted to see since I started playing this game two decades ago. Some of the small touches are amazing. I ran across a bessho skeleton and oh man HOW COOL. Plus the shed selshis skins and other items. I loved all of the nuances related to things like that. Thanks to the staff who made it possible! (Except no thanks to Tseleth for implying my favorite NPC is dead. Never!!!)

Is it intended that Symbol of Return only brings the user to the monolith, and not the whole group?

1) I can see where that would be frustrating. I don’t really have much say over Disarm, but I did add it to the sentinels to fit their martial capabilities. I’m with you in hoping that it changes soon.

2) Yes, I removed the silver requirements from the Sea of Fire outbound caravans.

Nope. I’ve relayed it to the Development team and there’s a fix incoming. That one’s not in my wheelhouse to change.

A few things. There is now a way in the Sanctum to CLEANse yourself of the lurk disease. Sniff it out!

You’ll also be able to sometimes get a message through your lurk if you try speaking while undead.

NEW animate bugs at the Sea of Fire!

An animated lithe veiled sentinel
A knife of green-lit shadows materializes in an animated lithe veiled sentinel’s hand and she slams it toward your chest in a vicious attack! Just in a time, the light of your periapt flares into a blinding phosphorescent sphere around you, blocking the attack!

Animated Shapers will summon snakes which attack the sorcerer!

Animated Shapers/Lunatics will raise lurks from dead PC’s which will kill other PC’s in a lurk domino effect (intended?)
