A letter of invitation address to Lord Brieson, Sir Thadston, and Prelate Lheren as well a notice placed carefully on the tree at the Landing’s Town Center

OOC Version (to keep it not as confusing)

After planning with Avalara, Falvicar and her have decided for this coming Wed (Nov 16) at 2200 Elven time or whenever it starts raining for a commune service to Lord Ronan at the Shrine of Dreams.

Avalera will be doing the speech / introduction prior to the casting and take the lead.

Giles will be cleric casting the commune spell

Candle(s) will be lit and Avalera will do her short and sweet introduction and give everybody a chance to say their thoughts and the cast will happen. And hopefully… we have enough deeds <grin>

The three objectives we’re hoping for:

1) Give (hope) Lord Ronan can remove the filth from his Shrine of Dreams (if he does more, great, if not, we are still eternally grateful but we believe it’s fitting to give Ronan the chance to do this since it is HIS shrine)

2) Closure for Lord Redding’s soul – can we verify his soul did indeed past Ebon’s Gate or his soul in agony somewhere and we need to go questing to put his soul to rest?

3) Direction for the Order of the Night’s Blade with Redding dead and honor Lord Redding somehow.

It’s hard for me to express how discouraged and disheartened this posting has made me so I’m not going to try.

For the record and because I would like the opportunity for my character’s viewpoint to be expressed in advance in this time: Katie thinks that the tainted altar should be removed before a commune attempt. Stone masons should be hired to remove and replace the altar and create a new one. THEN, ask Ronan to intercede with what we can not do… restore the holy flame. Ronan should help those who help themselves!

Hook up with Irar! See if workmen can be hired replace altars in both shrines – the Outpost and the shrine of dreams! Once the tainted stone is gone, do a commune then, to petition for the restoration of the holy flame.

Conversely, your post has left me discouraged and disheartened, possibly for different reasons.

Avalera wouldn’t have anything to do with a communion to ask for the return of the flame. The flame was a gift, and I can’t see asking for something so awesome to just be returned. She was stunned when it showed up to begin with, so asking for it to be returned – no way would she do that. Perhaps that is the difference in perspective from the position of a paladin versus a cleric. She feels it should be something that should be earned.

I wasn’t here when the altar was desecrated. Admittedly, this has left me with gaps in my knowledge base. Yet even if I did know of issues with other shrines, it’s highly unlikely that Avalera would bother herself with them until the Shrine of Dreams was taken care of. She’s happy to help if needed, but only after Ronan’s needs, the needs of his flock, and the needs of people who don’t even know they need him yet, are met. The people of Wehnimer’s Landing, and those who make pilgrimage from elsewhere, are important to her, so having a proper place to do so is a must.

What I do know is this (and I share this here reluctantly): After the flame appeared, Avalera had made it her personal responsibility to monitor that shrine and help maintain it, so she sees this desecration as a failure in that responsibility – she deserted her self-assigned post and shirked her commitment. This is something she had done previously with the temple in Solhaven, so she’s not too good with just leaving it in the hands of others this time. This is a personal atonement for her, and something that I asked for help with. Falvicar’s player is much more outgoing than I am (sometimes I’m lucky I speak at all in game!), so he offered up his help, which I really appreciated and gratefully accepted.

Bottom line is this: Communing with him to say “Hey, bud, we see this problem; you want us to handle it, right? Any suggestions? ’cause that thing seems pretty solid.” doesn’t seem inappropriate to me, particularly when you consider that – from a player perspective – our hands are tied. Or, at least mine are, because I don’t have access to another way at this time to effect change in game. I can see why it hasn’t been on the top of the to do list, and maybe to most it still isn’t (IC or OOC), but to her it is. People are welcome to disagree, but that doesn’t invalidate my opinion.

I kind of have to agree i think the players need to do actions to replace the alters themselves before reaching out to ronan. I do think it wouldnt hurt if kenstrom would give guidence as it was pretty heavily implied that the blameless decimated the night blade order. Not sure if that was overlooked but does need addressed.

For Avalera, this is more about saying “hey, here we are, ready to do what it takes to fix this” than it is asking him to do it himself. The spell (330) is just a nicety, and really isn’t necessary to that end. It’s just a way of opening a dialogue in game as a step to getting it fixed. I don’t have any other method to do so, but at this point I’ll gladly forgo it.

Well I suppose it’s time for me to add my 2 silvers…..
I’d like to preface this by saying I am happy to see that Falvicar wants to right the wrong that was brought about by the last magic cast in our shrine. That being said…

First, I have to agree that we should try and have the bloodstone altar removed prior to a commune. But I think we need to remove it from all locations as a town. It seems like pretty dangerous stuff. With the witch still running around we don’t need it put into play again anywhere.

Second, when we have a commune we should ask for the blessing/consecration of the new altar period. We can hope for return of the flame, but gifts from gods are at the whims of the gods. We can hope for the best, but should be happy for any positive response. (read that as keeping of our deeds).

Third, Lominstra might be a better Arkati to ask about Reddings soul passing through the gates. She is the gate keeper and that might bring a worthy Lominstra cleric into play.

Finally, It seems to me that business of the Nights Blades organization should be best handled via letter between the members and the organization. Two thirds of this commune seems to be dealing with Nights Blades and only one of the two members are even involved with it.

Respectfully,
-Regwen

Ultimately, we all agree the shrine needs to be cleansed. With that in mind:

An arkati is just as capable of removing an altar as any of us. Even for argument sake, do you think it’s appropriate to the Landing’s funds to pay for this when the Shrine is not Landing territory? Ultimately in the end, yes we need help removing it in mechanical terms and that is the single most wanted accomplishment of this commune. If your characters do not want to come, nobody is forcing you to do so. Do not forget either that Lord Ronan did fix the cracks in the altar before it broke.

While Lorminstra may or may not be more appropriate to find out if Redding’s soul did indeed go through the Ebon’s Gate, that does not that that Ronan does not already know. He is, after all, Lorminstra’s brother. There is no reason for him to not know (presuming that he talks to Lorminstra which lore makes it clear that they work together) and it would not be his first time in such matters. Did you forget Vleg’s story at the end and Ronan’s involvement?

The Night’s Blade.. Mohrgan and Falvicar are the last. There is simply nobody left. In the end, the Order takes direction from the Master to do his will when they are not fighting any evil.

I, for one, am going forward with this commune. If you all decide to come, great. I just ask you be respectful and keep the noise level down. If decide to not come, that’s great too. We’ve been planning this for a while and with Chaston gone, and it’s time.

Just to clarify, I never said the Order of the Night’s Blade is gone. There’s different segments of it, scattered all over. There was a bigger one near the Demonwall, led by Redding. He’s the one who helped branch out the organization in the frontier (Landing). They were pretty much all slaughtered by Chaston, and many other Night’s Blades, etc were hunted down, perhaps some died, perhaps others went into hiding. But yes, more exist. Redding was one of the main leaders, but not the only one. It’s like the Order of Voln lots of places/monestaries, some smaller, some larger. Of course the Night’s Blades operate a lot more quietly than Voln per se. I’d expect more to come out of this organization in the future as I expand on things.

OOC:A huge thank you to Kenstrom. This was one of the events that keep me coming back. You, sir, are a wonderful storyteller! Amazing subtlety and possible double meanings in so many spots.

Moments were so touching and poignant for Regwen.

IC:

A huge clap of thunder rumbles across the heavens.
Moonlight continues to stream in through the tiny crevices between the rock-formed veiling.
Regwen says a silent prayer to Lord Ronan
You close your eyes for a moment.
From one of the tiny crevices in the ceiling, a drop of water falls to the floor.
Plop! Another drop of water falls from a tiny hole in the ceiling.
Plop. Another drop.
A drop falls on Falvicar’s left shoulder.
A drop falls on Regwen’s right shoulder.
Regwen says a silent prayer to Lord Ronan
Kylishatary glances between Falvicar and yourself.
You glance at Falvicar.
A drop of water falls from the ceiling, descending from the rocks and crevices above, before landing on a finger on Falvicar’s left hand.

ooc: I’m cleaning up the log as its huge…. Plenty more commune goodness to come….

IC:
A blast of silver lightning pierces the night. Then another, then a third. The sky becomes alive with a web of silvery bolts, as thunder booms in the distance.
You reverently say, “Amazing.”

A bolt of sterling lightning flashes in the night, its hue so bright it briefly illuminates the nearby surroundings in a silvery glow.
Another silver blast rocks the sky, brighter than before. Another bolt, soon the entire night seems to flash every second with a flare of silver.

BOOM! Thunder bellows out like the roar of an angry drake, and a huge bolt of silver lightning slams down from the sky leaving a trail of moonlight-hued flames in its wake! The bolt strikes through the top of the Shrine of Dreams!
The bolt slams into the blood marble altar, and a gust of wind bursts forth!

You gaze up into the heavens.
A sudden fierce gust of wind howls through the area!
Falvicar lets out a cheer!
A sudden fierce gust of wind howls through the area!
Falvicar is buffeted by the wind and knocked to the ground!
You have a sudden and lingering feeling that you are being watched.
You blink.
Falvicar closes his eyes for a moment.
Falvicar moves to a kneeling position.
You nod understandingly.

The blood marble altar begins to crack, and piece by piece of the red-stained white stone flakes off like ash, revealing a polished black marble beneath.

(Falvicar places his the tip of his blade upon the ground, and clasps the hilt of the blade together with his hands and lowers his head.)

Forming on the sides of the black altar, silver rivulets appear, dripping down over the sides before freezing in place like icy, crystalline tears.
On the side of the black altar near Falvicar, a small crack appears.

The ceiling above begins to return to normal, the chill of the night outside fading. Yet through the rocky crevices, the twinkle of the moonlight still shines in like a field of stars.
The shining stars coverge like a flock of birds, darting joyfully in the air. They twist and turn at a moment’s notice, rolling over themselves in the other direction.
The shining stars swell with light as they spiral up, higher and higher.

As Falvicar moves to kneel beside the altar, the crack seems to have now appear close to him again, as if it moved, or exists as an illusion of some sort
Ylandra softly says, “Some rifts can never be mended, and others are only illusions, as though they were never there to begin with.”

You look at the altar.
Wrought of fine black marble, the altar rises just a few feet above the floor. The highly polished surface gleams softly in the dim light. Draped over the altar’s sides are deep silver stains, appearing like rivulets of frozen tears. There appears to be a small crack on one side.

ooc:
Tears of a god; powerful….
