Subj: Trade Negotiations: Rodnay for the Plinite (September 26 story recap)
Ahhhh, a nice easy night.
Bullet points:

* Cruxophim and Dennet attempt to negotiate the terms of their trade of Rodnay for the plinite. They don’t come to a full agreement on this night, but do hammer out the following details:
* The exchange will be on the Eve of the Huntress
* The exchange will be simultaneous
* Each side will have an inspection before finalizing the exchange, to be performed at two separate locations
* No one will come with Dennet except Magister Raelee, but Cruxophim may bring anyone he wishes
* Magister Raelee can act on Dennet’s behalf in further negotiations of the deal after Cruxophim consults his associates
* The Landing will receive a written statement from Dennet that they’ve returned the plinite to him
* Dennet will see that Thadston is preoccupied during the exchange or unaware of it

Log:

Grand Magister Dennet just came through a varnished modwir door.

Dennet smiles.

Dennet bows.

Dennet says, “Grand Evening.”

Speaking affably to Dennet, Cruxophim greets, “Grand Evening. Nothing’s on fire as of yet, so that’s good.”

Dennet chuckles.

Speaking heartily to Dennet, Chamorr says, “Howdy Denny.”

Speaking amicably to Dennet, Cruxophim inquires, “So, what shall we discuss, Grand Magister?”

Dennet says, “I understand there’s been quite a few developments recently.”

Dennet says, “Grand Magister Dennet.”

Dennet nods at Chamorr.

Speaking wryly to Dennet, Cruxophim agrees, “Putting it midly.”

Dennet says, “I want to offer my apologies, first and foremost, for the lack of….tact and patience Sir Thadston demonstrated.”

Dennet says, “I had hoped to slow him and keep him from acting so quickly.”

Dennet frowns.

Dennet says, “It seems that man is incredibly hard to control or predict.”

Dennet chuckles.

Dennet says, “Something I am sure you are aware of.”
Speaking calmly to Dennet, Cruxophim reports, “Well, on the upside, we’ve retrieved the plinite. Shall we arrange a proper exchange, perhaps? Would Eve of the Huntress work for you? If that works.”

Dennet says, “It seems though that Sir Thadston’s mission was folly, and the plinite was gone.”

Dennet nods at Cruxophim.

Dennet says, “That was to my next point.”

Dennet asks, “It is indeed then, in your possession Mayor?”

Cruxophim calmly adds, “…I can send a missive with details, if you’d like. And yes, indeed, it is safe.”

Dennet nods.

Dennet says, “To clarify and alleviate any additional complications…”

Dennet asks, “Your offer then, is what still?”

Dennet asks, “The plinite for Rodnay?”

Cruxophim nods in agreement at Dennet.

Dennet nods.

Dennet says, “I am sure it doesn’t need to be said, that, an exchange of the boy for the plinite, will need some measure of assurances involved.”

Dennet says, “We’ll need to confirm it’s the plinite.”

Speaking affably to Dennet, Cruxophim requests, “Given the recent complications, I would prefer transfer of Rodnay to a given location beforehand, at which point the plinite will be promptly delivered for your safe keeping as a representative of the Hall of Mages?”

Dennet says, “Before the exchange is finalized.”

Lornieh says, “Ah, and here it comes… more demands.”

Speaking amusedly to Dennet, Cruxophim remarks, “I would prefer the same of Rodnay, of course.”

Dennet says, “No demands at all.”

Dennet says, “I am sure we can arrange a safe, mutually agreeable location where both the boy, and the plinite, can be examined.”

Dennet asks, “No?”

Dennet peers quizzically at Cruxophim.

Dennet says, “Not that, you nor I do not trust one another, but let us be honest, there are snakes in both of our gardens.”

Speaking diplomatically to Dennet, Cruxophim states, “Rodnay first, as the plinite… you have my word. Can’t do better than that.”

Dennet nods at Cruxophim.

Speaking wryly to Dennet, Cruxophim muses, “Indeed.”

Dennet says, “No, I am afraid that won’t do.”

Dennet says, “We’ll need to arrange a mutual location, with both plinite, and Rodnay at the location.”

Dennet nods at Cruxophim.

Speaking casually to Dennet, Cruxophim remarks, “And here, I was hoping to avoid future complications.”

Dennet says, “You can bring any and all you wish.”

Speaking curiously to Dennet, Cruxophim inquires, “And why is that, Grand Magister? Surely by now, we trust each other?”

Cruxophim peers quizzically at Dennet.

Dennet says, “I will bring only myself, and Magister Raelee.”

Madmountan says, “I think a simultaneous exchange seems fair.”

Dennet agrees with Madmountan.

Dennet says, “It is not your word, I do not trust.”

Dennet says, “Surely you understand we must confirm the authenticity of the plinite.”

Dennet says, “No more than you should request to examine the health and condition of Rodnay.”

Speaking thoughtfully to Dennet, Cruxophim reasons, “Of course. You are welcome to do that once it’s safely in your possession, of course.”

Speaking calmly to Dennet, Cruxophim assures, “I’ll consider it.”

Raelee whispers something to Dennet.

Dennet says, “No, I am afraid we will need to decide on a location and time to have both plinite, and the boy, readily available to both of our sides.”

Speaking thoughtfully to Dennet, Cruxophim inquires, “Would Magister Raelee suffice to inspect the plinite?”

Dennet whispers something to Raelee.

Speaking amusedly to Dennet, Cruxophim opines, “One assumes she would know a good deal about it.”

Speaking to Cruxophim, Raelee asks, “At the exchange?”

Dennet says, “Yes, she may perform the examination of it, on site.”

Dennet says, “During the exchange.”

Dennet says, “I will not deliver Rodnay, and then await the plinite at later moment.”

Dennet says, “I am merely trying to be forthcoming with you.”

Madmountan says, “But the inspections can occur simultaneously.”

Speaking diplomatically to Dennet, Cruxophim reminds, “We’ve been burned a number of times thus far, you’ll forgive me if exercise caution in this matter.”

Dennet nods at Madmountan.

Speaking thoughtfully to Dennet, Cruxophim inquires, “How is Rodnay, by the way?”

Speaking regretfully to Dennet, Cruxophim murmurs, “Terrible business at the Outpost the other night, did you get that sorted out?”

Dennet says, “Your town has burned more bridges than the mighty water bridge spans of Waterford. So you’ll forgive me if I exercise caution in this matter.”

Dennet says, “Rodnay is comfortable, and well taken care of.”

Speaking evenly to Dennet, Cruxophim reminds, “You aren’t dealing with the town, you’re dealing with the agreement we made. You know as well as I that there have been many complications since then. I’m merely trying to return a citizen to his rightful place, the plinite was a measure of good faith.”

Dennet says, “It is a tragedy what occured to dozens of the soldiers in the Outpost, but do not worry, the stronghold is still sufficiently protected and defended. I have added additional golems as needed to help replenish the dead and wounded Hendorans.”

Dennet says, “We will still be able to provide ample protection and defense for our allies, your town.”

Speaking absently to Dennet, Cruxophim wonders, “How many golems do you possess, anyways? Must be a good number.”

Cruxophim chuckles.

Dennet says, “It is.”

Speaking diplomatically to Dennet, Cruxophim requests, “Give me the opportunity to consult with my associates to ensure a mutual exchange will be amenable. I’ll consider it, we both want this trade to go smoothly, I’m sure.”

Dennet says, “I am more than happy to deliver Rodnay, in exchange for the plinite. I am open to many suggestions, ideas, wards, locations…it matters not.”

Dennet says, “I do not even care if it is done at sea, if you fear my magic.”

Dennet says, “I desire the plinite to help my wife.”

Speaking sympathetically to Dennet, Cruxophim assures, “I understand, of course.”

Speaking calmly to Dennet, Cruxophim adds, “We desire the same thing, we’ve done much to alleviate suffering in this town.”

Cruxophim wryly adds, “Or try to.”

Dennet says, “But my only stipulation, is there must be a simultaneous examination and exchange.”

Dennet says, “If we cannot agree to a time and location, where both the boy and plinite, and our sides are present…”

Dennet says, “Then I fear we have some new problems.”

Dennet says, “In addition, you may pick the location. And I shall bring no one else with me, but Magister Raelee, if that is your concern.”

Dennet says, “I will allow you to speak to your advisors, do what you must.”

Dennet says, “I’ve empowered Magister Raelee to handle the negotiation of the exchange further.”

Raelee raises an eyebrow in Dennet’s direction.

Speaking to Cruxophim, Stormyrain repeats, “He will allow you..to speak to your advisors. Not leave you to, but allow.”

Speaking calmly to Dennet, Cruxophim assures, “As I said, I’ll consult with my associates and return an answer before Eve of the Huntress. One concession that might make that more viable would be a written acknowledgement that we have returned the plinite to you, and as such, fulfilled our duties in that regard. Then you are free to put it to good use.”

Cruxophim nods in agreement at Dennet.

Speaking to Cruxophim, Stormyrain mouths, “Allow.”

Raelee quietly mutters, “I can be a scribe as well.”

Speaking affably to Dennet, Cruxophim inquires, “That seems simple enough, yes?”

Dennet waves a hand at Stormyrain, dismissing her indifferently.

Dennet says, “Do not overthink my words, I meant it as no insult.”

Speaking to Dennet, Stormyrain says, “Mmhm. You’re just used to ordering everyone around. I understand. Getting your way, no matter what is a hard thing to overcome.”

Dennet says, “A written statement is agreeable.”

Dennet nods at Cruxophim.

Dennet says, “I understand the angle.”

Speaking affably to Dennet, Cruxophim states, “That will help considerably, I think.”

Dennet says, “In addition…”

Dennet says, “…and I offer this as mere advisement…not “commands”…”

Dennet glances at Stormyrain.

Dennet says, “I’m a Grand Magister, not a Militia Captain.”

Dennet smirks.

Speaking calmly to Dennet, Cruxophim states, “I’m always amenable to suggestions.”

Dennet says, “…but please be prepared and mindful of where exactly you will provide shelter for Rodnay.”

Speaking plaintively to Dennet, Cruxophim admits, “We do agree on that.”

Dennet says, “I suspect, when you get Rodnay, you will not employ the services of Quinshon.”

Dennet says, “So there should be a great measure of caution when housing Rodnay and providing for him.”

Speaking pleasantly to Dennet, Cruxophim opines, “Having contingencies would be well-advised, I’m sure. But we have a number of locals talented at care and soothing.”

Speaking to Dennet, Shinann asks, “The other night. Was that him trying to throw your daughter off the top of the Outpost? Rodnay?”

Dennet clenches his jaw.

Speaking gently to Hapenlok, Cruxophim states, “We don’t want him in a coffin.”

Dennet says, “….yes.”

Speaking to Cruxophim, Hapenlok says, “I’m simply stating, he probably doesn’t like being shut in.”

Dennet says, “The boy is frightened, and I do not blame him.”

Cruxophim wryly suggests, “Well, let’s not do anything to frighten him further then.”

Speaking to Dennet, Shinann asks, “And you were where?”

Shinann ponders.

Dennet says, “I was occupied. I was not aware Sir Thadston would embark on such a folly that night.”

Speaking neutrally to Dennet, Cruxophim notes, “Curious.”

Dennet whispers something to Cruxophim.

Cruxophim whispers something to Dennet.

Dennet nods at Cruxophim.

Speaking diplomatically to Dennet, Cruxophim wonders, “Just informally, would you be amenable to simultaneous inspections in two locations? Seems more prudent than both the same place.”

Dennet says, “Sir Thadston’s impulses should not be a problem going forward.”

Dennet says, “In addition, if you wish to have the location secretly delivered, you may provide the information solely to Magister Raelee, and she can lead me there.”

Dennet says, “He is aware of his mistakes.”

Dennet says, “I would be open to two locations, provided they are fair and reasonable ones.”

Dennet nods at Cruxophim.

Cruxophim nods in agreement at Dennet.

Speaking jokingly to Dennet, Cruxophim declares, “Darkstone and the Reach it is, then.”

Raelee whispers something to Dennet.

Cruxophim wryly mutters, “I’m kidding, no one wants to trek up to the Reach.”

Cruxophim appears to be struggling to keep a straight face.

Dennet whispers something to Raelee.

Speaking thoughtfully to Dennet, Cruxophim ventures, “A suggestion as well, if I may?”

Dennet nods at Cruxophim.

Speaking diplomatically to Dennet, Cruxophim remarks, “I might suggest keeping Thadston… occupied, during this exchange. Given, well… you know. History, and whatnot.”

Dennet nods.

Dennet says, “I can see to it he’s preoccupied, or even unaware of this exchange in its entirety.”

Speaking wryly to Dennet, Cruxophim remarks, “Well, people will talk… but still.”

Dennet says, “I look forward to hearing more of this arrangement.”

Dennet nods at Cruxophim.

Dennet says, “Magister Raelee, please keep me updated, once we learn more.”

Dennet nods.

Speaking pleasantly to Dennet, Cruxophim jests, “I look forward to being rid of this plinite.”

Dennet says, “Good night to you all.”

Dennet bows.

Grand Magister Dennet just went through a varnished modwir door.
