Evician wore his garments of worship as he prepared himself, his little otter friend taps him on the leg making his customary morning noises at him. He goes to the pantry and fixes a bowl of Smoochies favorite meal and sets it down on the floor. The otter licks his master’s hand and sets to the task of eating his meal. “You enjoy that buddy. I’m gonna be gone for two days and then I’ll be home again. Some very important business at hand is coming our way.” the otter ignores everything his master said as he buries his face in the bowl. Evician finishes preparing for his worship as he grabs his prayer beads and his holy tome and walks out the door.

He arrives at the temple of Koar in Solhaven and bows respectfully to the high priest of the local church. “Good day to you Priest. I pray Koar is blessing you abundantly this day. The Deacon asked me to send his best wishes on your current project.” The priest acknowledges Evican and smiles at him and turns to walk away with a sneer on his face. Evician walks to the fane and grins to himself as he ascends the stairs and gets on both knees in his long prayers to God-King Koar.

25 hours later…

Heading back to the landing Evician hear’s thunder in the distance, the boom being louder than usual expresses the importance of this night to come. He goes to his house and feeds his otter quickly and pets his friend. “I’ll be late coming home tonight Smoo.” The otter jumps on the table and into Evician’s arms nuzzling and trilling into his chest as his ears and head are scratched. “I promise I’ll be home this eve.” The boom of thunder sounds off again and causes Evician and the otter to jump out of his arms and run into the corner of the room. “Yes, yes I’m coming.” Finishing dressing he heads to the front of Moot Hall smiling as he sees his friends and family.

As everyone gathers and each one greets the other, they walk into the Hall’s observation deck for the trial. Evician stares down into the viewing area and frowns, his brow furrowed as he mumbles under his breath, nods his head. “It’s time.” As he says this softly under his breath, Judge Renpaw walks in greeting all assembled. He frowns noting that some of the jurors did not arrive accepting their duty to the town. “Good evening your Honor.” Renpaw nods in the direction of Evician’s greeting and he nods back to him. “Evening.” Renpaw calls the roll and frowns as two did not show.

As the trial begins, Evician coughs a little bit noticing a bit of blood appearing on his gloves and then looks again noticing that its gone as soon as it appeared. He frowned and went back to listening to statements and accounts, recalling most of the crimes that were committed by this heinous individual. His thoughts go back to his father Murdos and makes a point to go visit his father as soon as he is able. Evician listens to the newest comer down the stairs and listens intently as he covers his mouth in his hand and coughs again, this time he had a cloth in his hand and catches the blood.

As the trial presses on and all the crimes mentioned and the defense given by the man in front of his, his fist clenches, he stares possessed at the man in the chair surrounded by the guards noting the weak points in his defense, he murmurs a prayer dark and sinister, he bites his bottom lip blood pouring out of the lip like a sieve. Dark curses and utterances escape Evician’s mouth, blood bubbling from his mouth as it opens each time. He tilts his head as Mullach doesn’t even feel remorse for the crimes he committed or caused to be committed. He reaches for his bloodstained cloth and wipes his mouth smearing the blood as it clots over the wound marks. He reaches to scratch and itch and smears the blood on his face. He appears completely oblivious to the blood and mess he is making, from his fits of coughing, eyes untwitching as he continues to stare at the guilty man in front of him. He murmurs to himself as softly as possible as if whispering to a friend close by, “We could stab him in the eye with the lance and everything would be done.” Evician nods slowly and pictures the task being done in his mind.

As the night progresses Evician becomes annoyed and has a few more coughing fits. Renpaw calmly states, “We’re almost done. One more person.” Leafiara walks down the stares asking her question about reconciliation with the town and service to the town after the sentence is done. A voice appears in his mind, “There wont be a sentence you naive woman.” He adjusts in his seat to that thought and continues listening to Lady Leafiara and the counter from Malluch Burdos. Evician glances up at the balcony noticing friends looking down upon the man in the chair on trial. He murmurs, “The feelings are mutual my friends, i assure you. Justice will come this day.” He looks down at his hands and chest noticing more blood than he actually thought he had bled. Perplexed by this, he shook his head as Renpaw explained what would happen now regarding the verdict and the sentencing.

Judge Renpaw takes the jurors into his private chambers and he asks those assembled, “Do you need another day as I understand the hour is late for most of you to come to a decision.” Evician shakes his head as do several others save one who asked for another day. Pukk speaks up and says, “Can we do the verdict tonight and the sentencing tomorrow night?” Renpaw nods at this and accepts after asking the jurors, “We will do a verdict tonight and the sentencing another night. Whisper in my ear your verdict and we will see if we need to wait another day in all fairness to the one who needs more time.” Evician whispers into Renpaw’s ear hoarsely, “Guilty.” and the others follow suit. Judge Renpaw nods and takes a moment and glances at the jurors and states, “Very well, guilty is the verdict of all assembled. We will now go to the balcony and let them know as well.”

Judge Renpaw leads the jurors up to the balcony as they stand quietly and listen to Renpaw explain the verdict to all assembled. “Malluch Burdos is guilty of 6 counts of murder, and 5 counts of vigilantism. The sentencing will commence tomorrow evening late, so be prepared and show up promtly.” the audience nods and parts slowly speaking to one another of the nights events. Cruxophim walks up to Evician, “Well you’ve seen better days?” Evician tilts his head at his wing-brother and furrows his brow and nods solemnly. Cruxophim studies him and reassures him, “Go get cleaned up, change your clothes and go to sleep.” Evician nods solemnly and stops for a moment and turns to Cruxophim, “We did the right thing.” Cruxophim nods with his reassuring smile and pats him on the shoulder. “Go to bed!” He grins.

Evician walks down the stairs and through the arch as the voices in his head become much louder and crystal clear, “We should’ve just killed him and be done with it.” Evician responds, “Then justice would not be done, and we would be the ones at the end of the hangmans noose.” his body trembles as he stops and bends over groaning in pain. The voice continues, “Do not question what we know!” a lash of pain enters Evician’s mind and he groans again in the middle of the street. People walk around everywhere, yet no one notices a thing. Evician states, “Interesting.” the thoughts of the night cause dark brooding in Evician’s mind, he looks at the focuses of his faith around his neck, in his hand and he fumes, anger rising up as he coughs again, spitting a large clot of blood onto the ground. The blood quickly dissipates and moves into the ground, out of sight.

Arriving at Helden Hall he smiles at the sentry and greets her kindly, “Good evening.” the sentry takes a second look and smiles slowly and nods as she glances him over covered in blood. “Good evevning Lord Evician.” He walks through the gate and straight to his locker, no flirting with Freya tonight as he is a man doing as he was told. Evician looks around, listening and searching for anyone around. He nods and his stoic countenance turns to that of rage and anger. Evician stands beyond the curtain, rasping out screams and curses into the locker. He punches the locker and leaves a huge dent into the door. A voice comes from beyond the curtain, “m’Lord are you well?” Evician lashes out at the voice, “DO i sound WELL?! I’m angry, leave me be!” He continues to punch and lash out at his non moving victim, after a few moments a calm and collected look appears on his face and he leaves the locker. The area left a mess as he walks through the arch and grabs a scotch and winks at Miss Freya. “Good evening beautiful.” She returns a weak smile and nods, “Evenin m’Lord.” and continues to care for the patrons.

Evician walks home and prepares to boil water and take a hot bath. Smoochie walks up to Evician and touches his foot. He flinches and almost lashes out at his faithful pet and stops himself. Smoochie backs away from him in fear and goes to his bed. “I’m sorry Smoo, please forgive me.” Evician slides into the bath and sighs happily as the cares of the day disappear.

I know Evician’s having a rough time of it, but I’m really enjoying reading these glimpses of what’s going on with him.
