Interim Mayor Hibbits and The Unwilling Spinner

It really is interesting… I almost feel bad for the little halfling. He seemed half-terrified at times, but then interspersed with that were statements that were just patently untrue. He embellished the amount of time he’d been Deputy Mayor to an absurd degree (and kept changing it). He staunchly refuses to acknowledge the orbs, or even to go look for himself when urged. He has outlandish goals for the donation bins… yet he claims (quite believably) that he doesn’t want to be Mayor. It’s pretty clear that the job is weighing on him already, and he’d be happy to be rid of it. Makes you want to cheer for him and punch him all at the same time.

In an effort to spread the word, I’ll bullet-point Hibbits’ speech, as well as a few other things he mentioned throughout the course of the evening.

1)The invasion was unfortunate, and he will be speaking to the guards about upping their presence and training. He claimed to have been amongst us that night, fighting by our side, but I certainly didn’t see him, and neither did anyone else that I can tell.

2)The snow is of great concern to him, for reasons he can’t quite articulate.

3)He has had his retainers scour the city, and found no evidence of “orbs”.

4)He is forming a group of citizens and non-citizens to be part of a council that will be focused on improving the town. (Codenamed ICICLE).

5)There are rumors of something awry in the penitentiary.

6)The General Store will be reopening tomorrow, as well as the locksmith, with updated inventory.

7)Nihala is under constant care, and is still deathly ill. Retainers care for her around the clock.

After his speech, he did add a few details:

1)He will be happy to arrange a chance for citizens to go and visit Nihala at her home, where she is being cared for. He will let us know when that is going to happen.

2)He doesn’t desire the Mayorship for himself. He was nervous throughout and was quite staunch that he wasn’t cut out for the job and didn’t want it. He snapped at a few individuals, and appeared quite uncomfortable throughout the process.

3)He’s got lots more plans for expanding the city, primarily based off of notes of Nihala’s that he’s found.
After this, he did some work for Citizens only inside the Hall, and distributed citizenship pins to those who didn’t already have one.

I’m reserving judgement to this point. On the one hand, he acts quite the fool, telling blatant lies that are easily disproved. He blusters and turns a deaf ear to things he doesn’t want to hear. He’s asking for donations of a truly absurd amount from the populace. And yet, he’s pushing improvements to the town through, he’s doing work for the citizens, he’s making himself available, and he seems genuine about his desire to NOT be in power. I don’t know what to make of him to this point, but I’ll continue to keep a close eye.
