Huge Earthquake in Ta’Illistim shuts down some basic services

Sunday Night’s HUGE Earthquake left toppled buildings, crumbled storefronts, and casualties in Ta’Illistim. The Pawnshop was finally dug out Friday night, but both Inns are still buried. People are trying to dig them out, with very slow results.

Tonight, fate brought down a terrible blow upon the City of Ta’Illistim. The quakes plagued the city all day long, their occurrences becoming more frequent and violent as the night settled in. Many buildings in the city crumbled to dust, or were buried in rock. The citizens and others who call her home spent hours digging out those trapped and searching buildings for survivors.

Just when it seemed like those working hard in the mud and dirt were making headway, a large quake struck the foundations and collapsed the Keep on top of their Beloved Mirror. Working hard and fast, the Mirror was found unconscious among the rubble, small Gasen next to her. Digging continues, but not many are thought to be alive in such destruction.

Those needing to bank or use their locker in Ta’Illistim are encouraged to go to Sylvarraend or Cysaegir instead.

At eight in the evening, Volnes, a member of the Amber Flame and the Rooted Earth will be in the Hanging Gardens to speak to everyone about their ideas for the shifting foundation. Commander Murstyr will also be available to discuss the rebuilding and current state of the city.

This saddens me greatly and I feel horrible I was not hear to help earlier. I have, however, returned from my travels and will be available wherever is needed.

Rohese arranged the bed covers over him, and tenderly kissed his forehead. Gasen had finally fallen asleep and she breathed a heavy sigh of relief. Seeing how frightened he was when he was pulled from the rubble, she hadn’t hesitated in offering him shelter. Now he was safely tucked up in her bed in the Sylvanfair Manse and she was finally able to relax, albeit for a short while.

Quietly stepping out of the room, she pulled the door closed behind her and sat in a nearby chair. Her gaze drifted out of the window to the west, and to the ominous grey clouds still hovering over the devastated city. She allowed herself a moment to grieve.

The tracks of her tears revealed the pale skin beneath the thick layers of dust and dirt on her face. She glanced down at her hands, raw and bleeding from all of the rocks and stones she had carried away. So many people had come to clear away the rubble and free the trapped; the faint cries for help still echoing in her mind.

She wept softly for the lives lost and the destruction of her home.

A young aelotoi paused at the top of the stairs and coughed softly. Rohese looked up and smiled weakly, brushing away the tears and smearing her cheeks in the process.

“What is it, Aavia?”

“I’m sorry to bother you, my Lady, but there are more people at the door.”

“Let them in. Once their wounds are tended, please see that they are given something to eat and drink.” Noticing how tired she was, Rohese added, “Then be sure to get some rest yourself.”

Aavia bobbed a curtsy and disappeared down the stairs.

The gentle sound of the windchimes below heralded the arrival of another group of homeless and injured. I’m sure there will be many more to come.

Rising to her feet, Rohese took a deep breath, brushed off as much dust from her cotehardie as she could, and made her way downstairs to see how she could help.

OOC: Whilst Roh is extremely distressed about last night’s events, I wanted to say how much I enjoyed seeing so much activity in Ta’Illistim – hence the late night for me for which I am paying dearly today. Seeing Gasen crawl from the rubble was the highlight of my evening along with Roh and Lyrna’s mad dash to the Sylvanfair Annex to make sure Gasen was somewhere out of harm’s way. Once the dust has settled – literally and metaphorically – I will look forward to delivering him safely back to the Mirror all bathed and dressed in clean clothes. (Or she might just keep him because he’s so adorable).

I’m not going to lie…well maybe just a little, but the two plus hours I spent at the Pawnshop digging were fun. Wait…

OOC: Lyrna was quite honored to be able to provide an escort for Rohese and Gasen on the trek to get him to safety. It was one of the highlights of her evening as well.

I’m kind of out of the loop. Is the cause well-established now? The impression I’m getting is the city is on unstable foundations from being 50,000 years old.

Or was it actually magic related with the things that have happened with the whatever?

The elven scholars have their theory now:
lich explosion caused instability in bedrock. We’ll just have to see if they are right since, as Hairi confirmed to the crowd, Old Ta’Faendryl is on different rock from Ta’Illistim.

A rolled golden parchment sealed with the crest of the Alliance of High Elven Society arrives by breathless courier.

To the Lady Rohese Bayvel-Timsh’l Illistim
House Sylvanfair

It is with deep regret word of your home and people’s plight has reached my ears. I, too, know the loss and destruction of my beloved town as we had to dig ourselves from the rubble brought upon us by the madman, Alvarad, some years ago. Know that we at the Alliance hear the pleas for help and they will not go unanswered.

I have spoken with my fellow officers of House Aspis and we have agreed to open the doors to our annex in Seethe Naedal to those who have lost their homes from the recent quakes in order to ease the burden placed upon House Sylvanfair and yourself. They have also pledged a considerable sum towards the relief efforts as a start. I am sure you remember all we did as we welcomed the refugees from the west and know we will do the very same for your people. The officers of the Alliance have already agreed to host a fundraiser for food, clothing, blankets, whatever is needed, and I am pleased to announce the Ardenai Temple Knights, along with their commander, Arshwikk, as well as the Wyvern’s Honor will be on hand to assist. I will be speaking with others to see what can be done for the cause. Please let me know when a good time would be to meet with you in your beautiful city’s desperate hour and if there is anything we can do in the meantime.

The scroll is signed at the bottom in carefully inked Elven script:

If it were a dwarven settlement, I would blame digging too deep.

Rohese had spent the morning working through her correspondence. She had neglected it of late for obvious reasons, but now that extra help was available to assist those arriving at the Sylvanfair Manse, she had decided to take some time to catch up with her official duties. Gasen was getting stronger every day and she was relieved to see the color had returned to his cheeks. He was still prone to the occasional nightmare, but she had managed to console him so he could return to sleep.

Having just read a letter from Nihrvanah, she smiled warmly and reached for the quill on her desk. Wincing with pain, she reapplied some salve to the cuts and bruises on her hands, and began to pen a reply.

High Lady Nihrvanah Tarsonath Vaalor

Ta’Vaalor
24th day of Charlatos, in the year 5117

Dearest Nihrvanah,

I can’t tell you how touched I was to receive your letter and the offer of assistance from our brothers and sisters in Ta’Vaalor. House Sylvanfair are seeing a daily influx of people in need of care and shelter; I never thought we would see the like of it again after the terrible plight of our half-elven brethren, but to see people of my own city in such turmoil troubles me greatly.

I have asked for supplies of fresh food and water to be made available and I have also put out a plea for donations, which can be deposited in our courtyard as before. Now that I am reassured of Gasen’s well-being, and that of my friends and family, I can certainly make myself available at your earliest convenience to assist in your fundraising activities.

Please do not hesitate to let me know where and when I should avail myself.

Having just returned from across the Lake of Fear, Nihrvanah notices a neatly folded note tucked into a small box to the side of the entry of her chateau. She grabs it with white dust-covered fingers as she slips inside her home and prepares to retire for the evening. After a soothing bath to relax her muscles and cleanse away the sweat and bits of debris left as evidence on her skin from the clean up effort in Ta’Illistim, she opened the note and nodded slowly as she read.

Within moments, she has inked a response, and thought late in the evening, summons a sleepy messenger to deliver her response, making sure to compensate extra for rousing him from his slumber and impressing the urgency of the matter upon him.

Dear Rohese,

I have seen with mine own eyes that which troubles your town and my heart breaks for your and your people. Know that Ta’Vaalor and the Crimson Legion are with you in this and we will continue to work tirelessly alongside you and yours to clear the streets and ready your home to build anew. Please do not hesitate to use us, or the House Aspis annex, as needed and remind those who seek shelter that we will welcome them and ensure their comfort and safety.

If it pleases you, I have already made preparations for the fundraiser and waited simply to hear from you when it would be most convenient. I had thought this Feastday at 6pm would be best, but of course we can alter that if needed. I would be cautious to hold it within city limits as even the Argent Mirror has asked those residing there to seek shelter in Cysaegir until the land is stable once more.

With that in mind, we have three options before us in terms of location. I would suggest first House Sylvanfair’s manse as you have seen the bulk of those displaced from their homes. House Aspis, of course, is always a viable option as well. Finally, there is the town of Cysaegir, which, while considerably further from Ta’Illistim, was recommended by the Argent Mirror herself.

I will get all I need to in order on my end once I receive confirmation.
