Subj: A trip to the library
Last night, we all gathered with Carellus in the Garden of Forbidden Knowledge to open a portal to the plane that is home to the Grandfather’s Library.

With a little help from those gathered, I conducted a ritual utilizing Vesperti blood to open a stable portal. Some of the methodology was based on the visions of Orphia we saw several days ago, the rest was based upon a similar ritual conducted 5 years ago. (History note #1: One upon a time we reached out to Orphia in the library for information on how to defeat the Duskborn.)

Upon completion of the casting, ‘a glimmering white-golden gateway’ appeared in the garden. We passed through to find ourselves on an alien plateau – the harsh world that the lost ship arrived on. Fortunately for us, we opened a portal right in front of the library whereas the lost sailors were caught out in the wilds. We continued through a large copper arch and went inside. There, we found ‘a wizened vespertine’ – a much evolved example of Augustin Vespertinae’s original experiment (each of which contained a sliver of his consciousness). Also, there was ‘an aged crystalline’ woman – Orphia.

We learned from them that time had been moving at a great accelerated rate within the library plain in order to enable the Vesperti experiment. In many ways, it was a way for Augustin to ensure his own immortality – as each of the creatures contained a sliver of his consciousness. (The end goal seems to be a state of pure consciousness with no physical body.) The faster time moved, the more generations of Vesperti could evolve. We also learned that once upon a time, more humans/mortals had visited the library, and the Vespertines we saw were their descendents.

Unfortunately, the accelerated time aged Orphia greatly too. Had she not converted to her crystalline form, she would have turned to dust long ago. However, our arrival seems to have realigned the time. At this point however, there was no means to sustain human life… as the Vespertines had evolved beyond needed sustenance. Despite strong desires, this meant we could not stay either. Orphia’s crystalline form was transported back to the Garden of Forbidden Knowledge so she can see the sky again before the spells wear off and she succumbs to time.

Signed,

Thank you, Auchand.
The way this story ties back to events surrounding the Cataclysm made the events a bit of an onion, with some layers to work through. My character learned a lot about Solhaven, prior to his arrival there, and even more, about some of the inhabitants of his life. That, with the journey to a remarkable place my character never expected to see, has made it great fun!

Thanks for sharing! My mage would’ve loved to have been able to be present for this, but I’m glad for the recap.
