A Threat Called Scar

Severine and Telare run into trouble in Icemule from a hooded figure called Scar, asking for names of the Kestrel family recently arrived in the Landing from the Empire. Leafiara responds to her friend’s death, only to find out Severine was murdered because she refused to divulge the names/info of the family members.

OOC: This is double secondhand information of the militia getting a letter from Leafiara, who herself had only heard about this from Severine and Telare, first publicly in Icemule Town Center and then later privately in a chat at the Abandoned Inn.

To Stormy and the rest of the militia:

A new threat is in our midst–be on guard!

My dear friend Severine was at Burga Hall in Icemule last night along with Telare when they were confronted by a hooded figure calling himself Scar, who demanded the names of every Kestrel in the Landing. Sev, bless her, has been hanging around me too often… She bravely refused to give Scar any names, despite the danger. Eventually he held a dagger to her throat, but Telare insisted that threats wouldn’t work and Severine also didn’t give him anything–which eventually got her assassinated.

That’s where I come in and why I know any of this; after I sensed her death, I ran to her side as quickly as I could to return her to life. By then Scar was long gone, though, so I’m afraid I can only report what I’ve heard. I even returned to the scene of the crime with Sev to search for clues, but found nothing left behind.

No doubt someone like Scar is near impossible to track down, but just in case, these are some identifying traits Severine gave me to describe this thug: hooded clothing, a scar on his chin, a scratchy voice, a red and white dagger, and most notably his dagger arm was burnt and gnarled.

Something else Severine reported is also troubling me: he knew her and Telare by name. How he’d know them specifically without being aware of which Kestrels are in town is worrying, to say the least. Something seems amiss, but I can’t guess what’s going on there.

That’s all I have to report to you for now! Even though this happened in Icemule, this hoodlum seems to have targeted the Landing, so it matters to us all. If he has evil intentions toward the Kestrels, you might want a word with the Outpost to gather extra soldiers.

Leafiara reviewed her letter one last time and nodded her approval.

>Still, I can’t believe that guy. I would have told Scar everything at the first hint of harm to Sev. Someone like that will get his information one way or another–any ordinary townsperson would have told him. Every reason to protect her…

Leafi idly thumbed the picture locket she wore, depicting Severine, then shook her head.

>I’ll worry about those two later.

She folded the letter carefully, preparing it for delivery to the militia, and took a deep breath.

>Stormy… Shinann… So many of our enemies always seem to come from the shadows that usually I go to those most familiar with the shadows. I go to Crux or I hope Rysus will show up at just the right time. I want to count on you too, though. I want everyone I can get… Because nobody gets away with hurting my Sev.

Apropos of nothing, OOC’ly: I am, of course, convinced that — regardless of his perhaps sinister motives — he is clearly voiced by one Jeremy Irons.
