ANNOUNCEMENT: The Playershop Lottery Test seemed to go well and congratulations to the five new owners of shops in the Landing. Watch for more Lotteries as they shake all the bugs out of the system and put PlayerShops back into production as they were intended. But first … there will be lotteries everywhere. Keep your eyes on the SHOP LOTTERY command. GM Wyrom laid out goals and recent bug fixes for them:

Playershops Pending Updates

I’ve been sorting through the playershop system for several months now. During our March of the Bugs projects, I was able to dive into some of the obstacles that prevent us to work through the code and get updates to shops in a timely manner.
The last big round of updates we had ended up being bandaid fixes that are unraveling in some areas. GM Apraxis and Eusah were going through this with me, and we did identify a number of issues. Some of those are still pending, while others need to still be touched up. GM Eusah is working on another project now, so I’ve taken this over and it is in my top priorities to get out in May. The bugs getting fixed are the number one priority so that getting new shops out there don’t stress the system. I’ll go over a list of player-facing bugs here.
The SHOP POLICY had a lot of bandaids placed on it while the shop system was being fixed. This will get corrected once this series of updates is complete. Shop lotteries have been the main way to distribute shops after we turned them back on, but we will be returning to the system being able to automatically issue deeds when shops have been repossessed. This will also mean the partners won’t get first crack at the shops anymore. Be sure to stay in communication with the shop owners if you’re a partner. GMs are not going to step in and switch ownership anymore.
Known Bugs:
Shops that are closed can still be purchased from. This breaks a lot of things, and is not intended.
Room objects, such as the floor and walls, get duplicated with new owners. This bug is mostly fixed, but it lingers in a few other spots.
Using the SHOP with any sort of confirmation step can result in errors and inventory loss if you issue a command that isn’t what the system expects. This is a rare bug, but if you follow certain steps, you can repeat the issue.
SHOP SALES displaying wrong info. Seems some sort of ghosting from previous owners/partners can happen.
Issuing the SHOP command in a certain order can cause you to lose all your custom settings.
SHOP rent not charging the right amount if you cycle through partners a lot (it’s charging extra).
Some items aren’t displaying information properly. This is outside of the shop system, but needs to get resolved.
SHOP DOWNSIZE doesn’t work and is the root of a lot of SHOP problems, see updates.
Tax has not been issuing at 5% from a previous update. It’s been at 3%. Not a bad bug (for owners), but another system is looking for 5% to exist which causes some internal mismatched data.
Updates:
Shops will all have the ability to be upgraded to 3 rooms.
The downsize system may not be an option, so upgrading will be a permanent thing for that shop owner should they increase their rooms. This will be reviewed during the updates to see where it sits.
Rent will be updated from 10,000 silver a room to a flat 25,000 silver a month.
Tax is going to be reviewed to try to push behavior away from using shops as locker system. Tax will also be reviewed due to the bug of it still issuing 3%.
SHOP will gain some updates to use from outside of your actual shop.
Changing citizenship after gaining ownership should not be possible to retain a shop, will be investigating this.
New Shops:
For the following additions, we will first use SHOP LOTTERY to get shops out there. It might not be the only way, but it will be the majority.
Both Cysaegir and Kraken’s Fall will get a whole shop area painted by Kaonashi and Xeraphina.
Mist Harbor will have extra rooms added, painted by Valyrka.
This is to help with the Platinum migration as well as to add more to all players.
Most towns will get some additional shops added (1 room of 5 shops). The only town that looks like they already had this was Ta’Vaalor.
This will be reviewed after all shops are back in player hands to see how the system is handling life.
Once these are done, there are also some plans to get some new features added to shops that I don’t want to put a timeline on, because if you’ve been playing GS for 20 years, you’ll know that playershops have plagued the game with bugs for that duration. It’s can be a bit of a GM killer.
