27th Day of Ivastaen, in the year 5118Dear Cousin,
We have heard of the plight of your people and have read missives of request for food and supplies. We have taken these days to gather barrels of fish and pork as well as wine. Crates of warm blankets and clothing have been donated by our court as well. We have forces ready to send to your aid at your request. Please accept our assistance in the form of these goods and consider our offer of troops, weapons, and arms. Such an arrangement could be the key to freeing your city from its frozen cage.
We will keep our airships at the ready and wait for your response to our aid.
Your Loyal Cousins,
King Gaendel Nalfein

He stood silently on the docks staring at the river, as he had for weeks now. Wind whipped his cloak about him, and he pulled the hood more closely about his face concealing his features. He just didn’t have it in him today to be cheery for his subjects. Taking a deep breath, he exhaled into the swirling snow. His eyesight certainly hadn’t failed him yet, and his thoughts raced as the long awaited black sails appeared as dots upon the horizon.
Traditionally, a Monarch would welcome his southern allies with a feast and dancing. Chuckling ruefully, Qalinor thought to himself, “I wonder how they’d feel about ice skating and the best hardtack we can muster?” At least the cold had not taken his sense of humor as easily as it had taken two fingers from his favorite attendant in the Keep. As the sails grew, others noticed and a noise began to move along the docks and through the fortress.
It was the sound of hope.
Silently Qalinor slipped north toward Guardian Keep. It was time for him to don the mantle of King once again and greet the supplies from Ta’Nalfein.
