This post tracks changes in the world of GS for the year of 2021, with a focus on mechanics and fluff. Events are only mentioned if they introduce things like new scripts, and likewise storylines are only mentioned if they have a tangible effect on the game world (e.g. destruction of a building or implementation of a new hunting ground).

December
Updates and Additions
- 1st: Alongside (At Feet) inventory slot added (in Platinum, then live the next day in Prime)
- 2nd: New Zul Logoth mine cart track added between Khazar’s Hold and Zhindel’s Post (skipping Zul Logoth)
- 3rd: TUCK and UNTUCK verbs and Leggings inventory slot added
- 5th: SWEAR updated with new swears for forest gnomes, burghal gnomes, and half-krolvins as well as adjustments to halflings
- 8th: Miracle (350) now castable with less than 50 mana and the TELEPORT option no longer requires the room to be a sanctuary (note: I’m reporting it as it was described, but I think the description’s slightly off; it could already be used in non-sanctuary rooms, but was subject to the success check of whether it could have established a sanctuary, potentially in the face of enemies)
- 10th: Solhaven post office released
- 15th: Force on Force updated to apply to all combat systems (was previously just melee attacks) and account for animal companions and animates
- 15th: Relieve Burden (314) updated to account for silver in boxes and be castable at corpses to reduce dragging weight
- 15th and 16th: Sanctify (330) and sweeping blessing updates released in Platinum, then Prime: undead interaction with unblessed weapons changed, blessings now ignore WPS, blessings no longer use charges on living targets nor when grouped with a cleric with Benediction (307), blessings can now refresh over existing blessings, 40 Blessings lore blessings anchor noncorporeal undead, Bless (304) blessings now diminish in effectiveness per day, Guiding Light (1604) flare rate changed, Prayer of Communion (old 330) made a COMMUNE verb, gear difficulty benefits and penalties adjusted and removed, faewood now sanctified, Ironwright flares updated, and more
- 19th: Character create dates now shown under INFO START (disclaimer: subject to be wrong before 2007 and/or during a 5-year period in which dates defaulted to 1980)
- 19th: Compartmentalized Quivers now show blessings or lack thereof in INSPECT

- 23rd: Landing town council wing of Moot Hall constructed (note: I haven’t mentioned player mayor rooms in the past because they only lasted through the mayor’s terms; that’s true of the town councilors’ offices too, but the wing itself is a new area that will presumably outlast the councilors’ terms)

- 29th: Hinterwilds available on test server: new post-cap ascension-oriented Icemule hunting ground with several distinct zones, 18 different creatures total, Divergence system that alters effects of Spirit Slayer (240), Rapid Fire (515), Core Tap (950), Song of Tonis (1030), Song of Sonic Disruption (1035), and Minor Steam (1707) in this hunting ground only, hypothermia system, (Note: This would proceed through several waves of updates over the next three months including bug fixes, balance tweaks, new moves added to and sometimes old moves removed from the creatures, revisions of hypothermia, introduction of a boss creature, and purchasable temporary area-specific NPC benefits–and that’s just the things specific to the Hinterwilds. - 23rd: Armor accessory enchant no longer displays in loresongs or shop information since it doesn’t add DS; the enchant now also doesn’t affect difficulty, which has no bearing on Ensorcell (735) or Enchant (925) but might on future services
- 23rd: Loresong RECALLs updated to show weight, capacity, and weight reduction of containers
- 23rd: NPC spell invoker released as test run
Bug Fixes
- 14th: Fix to old Zealot (1917) to not go into defensive stance from arena and heist heals
- 27th: Fix to Song of Sonic Disruption (1030) to not script flare on AoE casts, especially not against players, but flare on single-target casts
January
Updates and Additions
- 1st: Frozen Bramble changes: reduced spawn rate, no more maneuvers on every action, no more inflicting RT when the player avoids the maneuver
- 1st: Premium Points and Platinum Points now pooled together
- 1st: Transferring spells to sigil staves now reduces value instead of locking the scroll
- 3rd: Elemental Wave (410) and Tremors (909) now hit prone targets to still apply additional effects, and Elemental Wave hits creatures that can’t be knocked down to apply RT
- 3rd: Snow crone spawn rate in the Glatoph increased
- 5th: Alchemy and cobbling dyes can now be combined
- 9th: Damage from looting certain elemental creatures and Frozen Bramble plants can now be mitigated with Survival training and potentially other factors; Resist Elements (602) also helps with the elementals
- 12th: Various ranger spells, effects, and cooldowns added to SPELL ACTIVE command and window
- 17th: Ghostly instruments can now get master instrument upgrades
- 18th: Quarterstaff base RT and min RT reduced

- 28th: Open Sea Adventures updates: companions now follow on enemy ships, logging back on to a ship is on the ship instead of Kraken’s Fall, improved SHIP HELP and OSA HELP
