Welcome to the TownCrier’s Daily Discord Digest.

In this space, we at the TownCrier will attempt to provide a daily digest of select conversations at the Official GemStone IV Discord server covering a 24-hour period from 10 pm EST the night previous to 10 pm EST of the night listed in the title. Not all conversations will be (nor can be) reported and we will endeavor to utilize a neutral tone (although our unique senses of humor may show through).

Links may go to the Official Discord post itself, to the GemStone IV Wiki, or other useful and relevant places. In the case of Discord links, those links will send you to the Discord web interface. If you are not signed in, you will need to be signed in to see them.

The digest was created by and is edited by the player of Qafziel Nalfein/Darcena Wolf-Valslayer – Jen. Have an error to report on this digest or some information to pass along? Contact Jen on Discord at ArmyJen#0001 or e-mail her. Please reference which digest day to which you are referring.

What You Missed

The majority of this digest record was compiled by Jen; #scripting was compiled by Luxelle.

General Gemstone IV

#general

Kemli had some questions about critical and damage weighting and padding and when you would choose one, the other, or both. Tysong answered, “Warriors with high redux wearing plate don’t really need critical padding as they already reduce the critical ranks due to redux and wearing plate. It’s more valuable to them to get dmg padding to reduce the health dmg loss instead.” and “Usually though critical weighting on weapons and critical padding on armor is considered the better choice for most things though.” Other players added some more reasoning for choosing one or the other as well.

GM Naos reminded us about the SHOP DIRECTORY verb in game for browsing player shops.

#prime

Nimaera told GMs, “DR has a better ESP system. Steal it. Incorporate it. People might start using it.” GM Naos responded, “What is better about how DR does ESP?” Nimaera replied, “DR has a gweth system. You wear a gweth. You rub it once. It turns on. You can attune to the following channels: General, Local, Trade, Racial, Guild, Private, (something else I’m too tired to remember). Your gweth is on until you turn it off, die, or get arrested. None of this silly 1 hour nonsense. you can also smash someone’s gweth if you’re of sufficient rank compared to them and they are being disruptive.” GM Naos stated, “I think removing duration from ESP would probably be a good thing long term.”

GM Meraki asked, “Where is your compiled list of ESP asks located btw?” Maylan the Maybug responded, “here’s the discussion from February. it’s pretty much the same suggestions we listed above. Turn global on by default, remove or increase the duration of an amulet rub”

GM Haxus posted, “The NPE team desires to make some changes to the ESP system that will hopefully coincide with the release of the New Player area. I don’t have any specifics that we can talk about yet, but certainly things like “always on ESP” and global on by default (instead of the other way around) are definitely things on the list of things being looked at.”

#premium

GM Quilic reminded:

For those who have been QST-ing with us, this just came up in a private message, and in the interest of sharing information, I’m copying it here.

This bit from the Hiatus vignette is IMPORTANT, and I feel like people might have missed it:

She knew she shouldn’t have done it. She *knew* that. But she also knew she couldn’t have done aught else. She was what she was, after all. If only it hadn’t gone so-

She stopped that line of thought dead in its tracks… for the hundredth time or so. It was unproductive… and what was done was done. What mattered now was the imbalance.

I’ll leave it at that for now (Premium Fest is taking 94.8% of my brainpower), but it’s relevant.

#mechanics

Crime suggested, “It would be great if Fixskills could have a 15 minute period of adjustment. It is very frustrating to buy one, think you have everything perfect, only to figure out you blew it. It’s true that you all are very helpful with customers who experience this, but I can imagine it is frustrating for you as well. So perhaps a time period for evaluation of changes would be of benefit to everyone.”

Confluence Tactics. Continuing the Confluence Strategies discussion from yesterday, Midgar asks, “Another thing I’m wondering, is how does weapon heat and the lightning work against UCS gloves/boots?”

Midgar also asked, “Does it dispel all spells going in? Or does it work like the rift, and let you keep your class’ circles” Sasathi responded, “Works like the rift on entrance but you can use spells once inside without the periodic dispels. Also the elementals dispel attack mechanic is an elemental dispell so it will target those spells first”

Ensorcelled UAC Gloves. Ansren asked, “do ensorcelled uac gloves work with spell thieve or spell parry?”

Bolt-poor Loresinging.  Arianiss asked, “Which GM was it that put in the mechanics where you get bolted if you loresing (badly) in public?” Naamit answered it was likely to be former GM Keios.

Sunfist. Fausto asked, “is there a min amount of Grims one must kill in a camp to get credit for razing?” Gavrien answered that the wiki says five minimum.

Double Stunman Roundtime. HebrewToYou reported he felt the double roundtime for a stunman attack needed fixing.

Crit Weighting and Blessing. Conrash/Zannath/Drakkler asked, “How much crit weighting before it becomes prohibitive to bless a weapon? CER 10?”? HebrewtoYou recommeded 6 CER, especially if Voln blessing. ardkor added, “CER 10 is about where its impossible to Voln bless at all without use of 1604, but a high level cleric’s bless could easily afford the loss of swings.”

Shield queried, “I am curious as to weighting’s effect on blesses myself. My warrior borrowed some 7x T1 gory gloves that also have 5-6 points of crit weighting. I blessed with 1604 and a ~60 cleric and it lasted an entire Reim hunt and then some. Does 1604 increase duration and CER reduces by a percentage? or… does 1604 compensate for a certain amount of CER At 6 points, whatever the reduction in blessed swing count: it wasn’t noticeable.”

Leafiara responded, “With a Consecrate I can get about 850 swings onto a 10 CER item, starting from a base 648 swings. My understanding is that reduction in swings is exponential in some way. Which would make sense since I also can’t get more than like 20 swings onto a 20 CER item.”

Shield mused, “Enchant and ensorcell difficulty is CER squared. I wonder if it’s similar. I also wonder if the swing is capped first at 999 and then reduced based on CER, or reduced and then capped. The latter would be nice. Greater effect of paladin and cleric….primarily cleric, I think, as paladin 1604 bonus can be maxed early IIRC”

FarFigNewGut added that they think it is based on services.

Rift Bug. HebrewToYou reported that when a rift imploded a csetairi after he’d damaged it, he did not get credit for his bounty.

Boss Creature boon? Athias asked if anyone recognized the below text or if it was a Boss Creature boon. HebrewToYou responded he thought it was a boon.

As the crazed zombie falls, an incandescent beam lashes out and strikes you! Crackling arcs of lightning surround you!

World of Elanthia

#festivals-and-events

GM Quilic announced, “There will be no spoilers ahead of time, save for the one on the officials about the timing. Opening weekend will be service-heavy, with more RP/storyline during the week (though there are likely to be some merchanting things happening then as well).”

#roleplay-in-elanthia

Questions:

  • “What would it take (or what HAS it taken) for your character to cross the line from “good” to “evil”, or vice versa?” [Alisaire]
  • “What would your character’s spirit animal be?” [Juspera]

There was also a debate on deontology vs consequentialism.
