Wyrom Explains The Quality of Life Updates for the Bank Heist

Mayhem Master Wyrom made some Quality of Life updates to the Bank Heist. Timer gets paused during the boss battle. But the boss can summon backup. There’s a chance to encounter no enemies. The Poisoned Heretics now have more distinguished Boss (when you work for Silent Investors). Odds of finding rare and very rares upped quite a bit. He’s posted it in detail at the officials:

Given feedback in Prime, I’ve made some new changes that will be live in just a moment.
The timer in the Bank Heist is now paused during the boss battle. While it was intended for you to lose if you didn’t complete the last step before being moved out, it was a bit confusing, but the reasoning was because the waves you faced were not the ONLY waves in the bank. It was like a game of cat and mouse. Regardless, that feature no longer exists.
Due to the timer being paused, the boss can summon unlimited backup (adds) to add some difficulty that isn’t a tight timer.
There is now a chance that you will encounter no enemies in the bank. You’ll need to perform a simple task to move on.
The Poisoned Heretics now have a more distinguished boss (when you play as a Silent Investor).
Odds to find rare and very rare artifacts have been upped quite a bit. The blood crystal is considered extremely rare. Overall, the odds are much better than moonshard pendants now.

I could figure out why I was getting swarmed by watchdogs, turns out my grasp of graves arms were calling them in. I saw a watchdog whistle, but i assumed that was an intentional mechanic.

Are the watchdogs intended to summon extra help in addition to the humanoid mobs?

Mostly curious, since I’ve seen it happen a couple times now – which usually results in a ton of mobs in the same room since they can increase exponentially.

The numbers of mobs in the room aren’t summoning more stuff. It’s a spawn event that is summoning. It’s just grabbing the wrong creatures for the messaging. That’s why the arms were whistling.
Only the boss (in the vault) can summon multiple times.

I’m really confused. There’s supposed to be a boss battle in the last room? I somehow feel like I’ve never experienced that after getting to the vault (as part of the SI) – I kill the last mob in the vault (who has been similar to the previous mobs, at least I think so), wait a second or two, then type the command to start leaving the vault. Am I doing something wrong?

As of right now the creatures in the final room are summoning more creatures themselves. I’ll kill the boss marauder or whatever, but the watchdogs or the eagles, etc will keep calling in more and more watchdogs and eagles until I can’t keep up and get Force-On-Force pecked to death. I know every player will be affected by balance changes differently, but I’m finding the new changes much harder than they were previously. It makes sense if you don’t kill the boss they keep summoning more hench-creatures, but the hench-creatures summoning more of themselves makes it extremely difficult for me to complete now unless I get lucky with my hits fast in that final room.

Do different factions have different drop rate tables? There’s at least 2 non crystal pieces that feel tuned very very rare, unless that was the intent, or if we should be trying different factions.

There are 12 artifacts of four levels of rarity – the ringmaster gives differing levels of bloodscrip for them individually, as with the archaeologist and the moonshard pieces. So the egg, the slippers, and I believe the falcon although I might be wrong, are very rare compared to the monkey vase and the mandolin, for example.
The crystal is rarer than those last three pieces.

Okay, Sunday fixes are in.
* No more whistling arms and animals. * Only marauders, assassins, and bandits can summon. * The Poisoned Heretics are awarded a heist bonus properly now. Cap for the PH is 220. You’ll still see Poisoned Heretics Entries: 0** though, since you are automatically awarded it (+1 -1). This is available in the DUSKRUIN verb in case of instances where you’re removed prematurely or you earn them another way (coming soon at a future Duskruin). * Dying in the heist with call familiar up and no deeds will stop being weird. (This is also fixed in the arena).

Sorry but giving up on the Bank Heist. 5 runs and i cant get past 3 steps… as a caster i keep getting slapped in the head.. game mechanic is like targeting only my forehead. not worth the booklet to fail every time.

Which one were you doing? It seems there can definitely be a lot of injuries, depending on which faction one is attempting and one’s skill set.

The addition of potentially unlimited waves is not a QoL change. It makes it significantly more difficult to complete the final enemy when five watchdogs spawn on you. Spending $100 on Simucoins to find this change that limits my chances at finding treasure box items is severely disappointing.

I would say the removal of the timer on the boss was a huge quality of life change, this is also a far more friendly event to physical classes than the arena which clearly favors casters. Not that we squares can’t do good in the arena, just it’s not even a competition and takes far more work for us than pures. I think there may still be some bugs in it but i’m finding doing some work for the Silent Investors can be a nice break from the endless arena runs which can become soul crushingly boring after soooo many runs. The return for your money is not as good as perfect running the arena but it’s a nice alternative that I think squares who have not aquired a bunch of enhancives and gear plus post cap training might find a friendlier foot in the door to this event than the arena. Plus whenever they do feel they might want to go back to attempting the arena they can try out the spheres on any horribly unlucky spawn they run into that might normally be a huge road block for them. Heist bloodscrip scales per room. If you get hit with the orb, you get 25. No hit in the open 35, no hit in hiding 50. Per room. Sometimes you get an item in the first 4 rooms instead of BS. But that explains the differences in the scrip rewards

If you successfully pass the skill check, you won’t get an orb tossed at you. That’s when you get the 50BS.

I should clarify, from my perspective. When you OBSERVE, if you pass the skill check, you don’t get an orb messaging or anything. The maurauder just pops out. If you fail the skill check, you get wolloped with an orb that does rank 1 wounds, usually a couple of them. It has been consistent for me every run. The “magic number” seems to be 1x in perception to dodge the spheres.

I never use observe because whenever I did it told me I was supposed to be listening. I just assumed it was only for sue with one of the other factions version of the heist.

I would also say that at least one of the pures I know ran it got no orbs thrown at them and has over 1x in perception so if there is some check that effects the bloodscrip happening to hurt the purers i’ve known to run it it is not that.

OBSERVE is for the Ophidian Cabal (OC) one, LISTEN is for the Silent Investors (SI) one. I haven’t done the Poisoned Heretics (PH) one yet, so I’m not sure what you are supposed to do in that yet.
Each branch is similar, but slightly different. And I’m sure the skill checks for each are as well.

A disabled “bloodthirsty” boss cannot summon help, keep that in mind. They can in RT though. But the timer being paused is the QoL. There is also a chance at a non-combat encounter.
The Bank Heist is low intensity combat rail ride that has three routes to try. Each have different skill checks (and even a stat check in one of them). If you’ve tried all three routes, and it’s not for you, there is still the arena and sewers.

Is there any point to doing an ‘observe’ after the first time you determine that your position has been compromised? All I ever got for my trouble was an orb rolling in, and damaging <exactly the same body part[s] as the last one>.
Once you’re compromised, just walk & steal?
Any way to NOT get blasted by the orbs?
Does the bloodscrip you find have to be physical, or can it get added to your ‘ticket’ balance? (Yes, I realize that the advantage to physicality is that it can be sold. This pales in comparison to having to put the stuff away in order to re-equip for combat, see also under ‘position is compromised’.)
In the few ‘steals’ that I managed, I got only bloodscrip each time; I am not quite fully singled in Perception (75 ranks, at 89th level). Should there be items in my future, or are my chances slim?

Make sure you are hidden or invisible before observing. Remember in the Ophidian Cabal mission you are sneaking into a bank to steal! Being hidden is a good thing! Every time I’ve ever been hit by an orb it’s because I’ve been observing out in the open, if I’m hidden they don’t roll in! (You might still have to pass some kind of skill check, but being hidden or invisible helps).

Krakii-
The OC requires a perception check. You need to be at least 1x to avoid damage, even while hidden. However, it doubles the amount of script you earn. The SI and the PH have different stat/skill checks (I don’t know what they are however). To start the next battle in the OC you observe. That’s essentially how you tell the game you’re ready for the next mob/s. So yes, you have to say it for each room. You “listen” to start it in the SI area and watch in the PH.
The last thing you want when stealing, in my opinion, is finding an item. It’s a pain in the @#$. The items aren’t worth all that much-much better to keep the items in the sewers where you aren’t trying to also fight a battle and not get weighted down. Also, items mean you’ll have to take frequent trips to the pawn shop so…again…you’re not weighted down in the battles.
But about 1 time in 8 (very crude guess on what I’m seeing), you do get an item. Wish it were zero times in 8. I’ll sewer if I want items.

The one thing I wish someone would consider on the mobs is the special roundtimes (I forget if it’s a warcry or whatever. I’ll call it a warcry here just to call it something). But twice now I’ve had three separate 20 second warcries in a single battle…making it impossible to complete the mission.
I do understand it’s a mechanic-one that might even be avoided with proper spec’ing. But it still seems like a lot. Once puts me at pretty high risk all by itself (especially if I was knocked down first or in the process). Anyway, just something to consider adjusting a bit..
Otherwise, even as a caster, I really like the QoL update!

Well post cap pures are loseing decent chunks of blood scrip in the SI, even way post cap pures so I would guess whatever it the stat or skill check there is has to be something pures really really don’t value.

Any chance we could see a timer between summons so it doesn’t get out of control when they just decide to summon loop since have no way to prevent it?
