Room Wide Loresongs Announced!

GM Estild announces that going forward, GMs who create a special loresong for an item can choose to allow it to go to the whole room. How cool is that going to be? This is not retroactive for items out there already (except for 2 from the recent auction).

New functionality has been released to allow for room-wide loresongs (which did previously exist on a few stationary objects). Not all loresongs will have this functionality and it’s up to the individual GameMaster who creates the item on whether it will or will not. This update only affects new loresongs going forward, with the exception of 2 items released at the auction last month (the Spellstorm runestaff and the Cone of Elements wands). Because such songs can also output quite a bit of text, players can opt out of receiving this messaging if they are not a member of the bard’s group via the new SET SHOWLORESONGS OFF flag.

Brillant! I’ve not had anything sung to in months because it’s such a pain to find a bard, I hope this changes things.

If you’re looking for a loresinging bard, keep an eye on SERVICE SHOW…there’s usually someone advertising there, especially around the Landing.

I see the room wide songs as being particularly relevant for storyline events. No more having to direct people to the forums to see the multiverse tale of a corpse that someone went through so much trouble to write…now everyone there can experience it for themselves.

Clarification, please?

This is for those amazing items that have their own special story-loresong, right?

It’s such a frustration to me that there’s no good way but OOC means of sharing these. I try to re-tell them best I can, but it’s a GREAT deal of typing, and generally needs a person, point-of-view change, and often a tense change as well. I feel the pressure to do it faster, too. 🙁

And people have questioned my retelling. Anyway, it’s such a special and touching thing when I discover then, to run into these frustrations it breaks my heart.

So … if that is what this is for, Oooooh YES! Thank you thank you thank you

Yes, this is only for special items that have loresong stories. It doesn’t apply to the general properties of an item. And yes, the exact scenario you describe is why we decided to implement it.

I love this idea for story elements. Many times a loresong has been used as a plot device and this could add to the story…especially duri g court trials and such. I do admit it does remove the bard from retelling what they see but this is a good give and take. Now we just need are story GMs trained for new fun.
