Recap to date of Ta’Illistim Earthquake Storyline

GM Valyrka gets everyone on the same sheet with a definitive recap of the situation in Ta’Illistim all in one post. TLDR; she titled it mid-story. It’s not over. That means there’s still time for you to get involved.

IC:
Ever since the lich in OTF was destroyed, there have been small quakes affecting the city of Ta’Illistim. Over a few weeks, these quakes became more frequent until a large quake rocked all of the city, damaging houses and shops and ultimately destroying Ta’Illistim Keep. Mages and Loremasters all over the city have met with citizens and adventurers to discuss causes and solutions.

Lady Rohese and other with similar organizations began giving shelter, food, water, and comfort to those displaced, hurt and affected by the quakes.

It was decided that the explosion associated with the lich damaged the rock that Ta’Illistim was built upon. The very foundations of the city were shifting which in turn caused the quakes and destruction.

Three mages of the private orders of magic in Ta’Illistim formed a plan using three artifacts of the elements residing with their organizations. Originally, they had planned to use earth and fire to meld the rock together and strengthen the foundation of the city. Eugenides explained why water was needed, and they agreed. Lady Trilogi brought up the idea of gems that are traditionally attuned to specific elements. She shared her research ahead of time and even provided some gems.

People in the city were urged to evacuate until the ritual was completed.

On Feastday the twenty-fifth of Charlatos, Ctarys, Hairi, and Nestrana each brought an artifact and gathered those attuned to their element, instructing them to stand behind in a circle. All those wishing to participate were instructed to create a circle behind them, so those with the ability could draw on their magical power.

During the ritual, a cursed gem was used by one present. That gem briefly corrupted the flow of power, but was removed and the healing went on. The city felt some quakes, heating, and cooling of the earth during the event. At the end, the mages felt that it helped, but were not sure it completely worked. That remains to be seen.

Digging continues throughout the city. Many shops and buildings need repair, and the keep is in need of a full rebuild. Commander Murstyr will be in the city in the coming days to direct reconstruction.

OOC:

Thank you to the players who have added their special touches so far in the story. The story has evolved through player decisions and ideas.

I love how Lady Rohese, Nihrvanah, and others of charitable organizations have created their niche and have been supportive of the Ta’Illistim population. I love reading your letters and posts!

The original plan was to just have small quakes leading up to a huge one and then it would be done…. But over the course of the week, players were digging deeper into the event, so I changed my mind and ran with some of the ideas I was seeing and came up with a ritual of sorts with the mages restoring stability led by the private organizations of mages that no one has really interacted with, a good way to introduce them It seemed more interesting than just earthquake over, all is now right with the world.

Lady Trilogi mentioned gems and shared her research on element attuned gems, which were provided by players. So I ran with that as well and included her ideas. I am so glad she educated others as well.

Originally, it was to include earth and fire mages with others lending their magical power to the event. Eugenides came up with a very interesting point about water, so I amended the event to include it.

After seeing how many players wanted to be involved, but were non-magical, I tried to find a way to include them and was so excited seeing the excellent RP happening.

There were a few other interesting things going on instigated by other players and I hope they enjoyed the play on their ideas.

You have kept me on my toes through each event with your insightful and creative ideas that you present in whispers or aloud. I have had fun including them on the fly and letting the story unfold sometimes from minute to minute depending on what you have said or done.

The event is not over yet, so stay tuned and know that I am watching your ideas and actions and want to give players opportunities for their characters to be involved!
