Hello Elanthia!

New characters will no longer receive a 30-Day Fast Skill Migration period. Instead, all characters will now receive fast skill migration until they reach level 20. In addition, when you have almost reached level 20, you will now be required to confirm that your skills are set to your desired values. You will not be able to earn any additional experience until you have given this confirmation. Enjoy!

Nice, thank you, no more rushing for that 30 days 🙂 Do the fixstats expire at level 20 now too, or is it a flat 5 uses?

Nice!

Any way to have this apply to characters created before this change and currently in the 30-Day Fast Migration period?

I’ve played numerous characters to 25+ in the first 30 days, which I realize means that I spend too much time playing, but at the same time that was part of the experience and part of what I enjoyed about leveling characters. Being able to try new builds once you’ve achieved high enough level that most of your key skills / spells are available was part of why I really liked the first 30 days. Is it possible to allow characters who are still in their first 30 days to retain the original benefit, and if they don’t achieve level 20, to allow the skill migration benefit to continue beyond that 30 days period (but end it if they’re already past level 20)?

My interpretation was that if the characters are now (still) below 20th level, they would get the fast migration. Why wouldn’t they? Says right here, fast migration until you’re 20th level….

Ooh – awesome!

Perfect timing, as I have a new character that is reaching the end of her 30 days and I was worried since I hadn’t quite gotten to the level I wanted to get her to to try out her intended build. I was afraid I’d have to burn her FIXSKILLS and then potentially be unhappy with the build/need more tweaks.

Same questions as as others have, though:
– Is this retroactive? IE, all characters currently under level 20 now have the fast migration until level 20?
– Do the 5 free stat reallocations still have the 30-day timer?

All characters under level 20 will receive the fast skill migration, this includes newly created and previously created characters. As for the 5 free stat reallocation, those are still only available to characters in their first 30 days.

This is an awesome change and should be incredibly beneficial to new players coming in. The first 20 levels are a good time to explore some basic builds and get a feel for the character, which is what most new players probably want to do. It does hurt a bit for those that power-leveled through the first 30 days to get level 25, 30, or beyond, though I doubt that was a large number of characters and this will result in an overall net benefit for the game.

Thank you!

If you have a new character that’s currently in a 30-day migration they should still receive that time, though you will still be required to give the confirmation I mentioned before you can reach level 20. Any characters created from today moving forward will not have the 30-day option, the fast skill migration will only last until you reach level 20.

Very nice change.

Question for you guys and gals…

Am I the only one that doesn’t make use of fast migration and stat adjustments in the first 30 days?

I just build a character and leave his stats as they are and train him how I want from the beginning. Even if leveling is a pain in the rear. Getting a pure bard up levels is kind of tough. I suppose I could train him to use weapons until level 20, but then he wouldn’t (in my eyes) be a pure bard. I spent a lot of time getting him up to level 15 on his own, making heavy use of twisted wands and hoping 1002 can shatter shields/weapons. He lacks mana to make regular use of 1008…so it’s a challenge, but that’s what I like about it. Maybe I’m just odd about it. Although, the occasional sonic runestaff flare on a target after warding them with a cast of 1001 is a boon. Sing 1001 at the target and hope for a sonic flare, try 1002 and hope for a shatter, then wave away with my twisted wands until it dies.

Anyway, nice change either way. Folks won’t have to feel rushed to hit a decent level by 30 days.

Re: Drumples’ post

I usually do this, myself. I don’t think I’ve ever had my Pures start out as swingers, either, and run them Pure from the start.

However, I do sometimes make some minor adjustments to the stats before the 30 days are up – maybe I have a Halfling character and was a bit too optimistic on being able to handle a lower Strength bonus from the beginning and want to up it a bit after noticing I’m struggling a bit with encumberance, etc.

As for Skills, I’m usually pretty good at not having to change those, either, but sometimes I make a mistake or want to try something new. It’ll be nice to have the option to do this beyond the first 30 days, for sure.

In fact, the new character I made recently happens to be the first time I’ve specced them to something I didn’t intend on being their final build. Hence the happiness at having some added flexibility. I’m pretty happy with their stats, but their skills will definitely need some rearranging more than once prior to L20. (I want them to use Thrown Weapons and, not wanting to deal with that from the beginning, am waiting until they’re high enough level to feasibly use a bandolier.)

So thank you! This is a great change.

I’m still getting the message that my training grace period will end on the 30th day:

>Notice: Your training grace period is scheduled to end at 1/16/2017 10:41:55 CST (a few days from now). When this time has passed, you will no longer be able to adjust your stats by checking in to an inn, and your skill migration will proceed at the normal rate (i.e., not accelerated like it is now).

With this change, ONLY the stat allocation will end at that time and the fast migration will continue until 20?

Subj: Re: Update to New Character Fast Skill Migration!
After I create a new character, I put a reminder in my Palm Pilot of when the 30-day period is up just to make certain I didn’t miss it in case I did have something I didn’t actually want, or conversely did not train in something that I knew I would need. Now, a lot less important to do so.

And I absolutely did do the “2Hander caster” and re-spec to all-spells, because at the lower levels it’s quick and easy to blow things away with a claidhmore (and I happened to have a stack of ’em sitting around). Of course, that was before the free Arcane Blast/1700 came around, so now I may very well go pure-caster from the get go.
(Except for Bard, of course, because they don’t get Arcane Blast due to not being a pure.)

Yes that is correct. The reason your getting that message still is because your character was currently in a 30-day fast migration period prior to my changes going live. New characters will no longer see that message.

Some of the GS players are actually very into the game mechanics, and enjoy tinkering with wild abandon in the first 30 days. I can understand it’s not for everyone.

Personally feel like level 25 is a better cut-off as it’s extremely easy (if you know how to manage your stats and experience) to get to 25 in the first 30 days with any profession / race combination. Hell, I got 28 in 30 days on a F2P Half-Krol Monk… It wasn’t really hard to accomplish either.

I still call it that, even though it’s now a Samsung. 🙂

But hey… up until the end of May, it was still a Palm Pilot.

(And one of the biggest reasons I was willing to switch, was that the calendar/task/contact/memo software I used on the Palm, was available in Android. So I was able to stick with exactly the same software, and port everything from device to device.)

Any chance of considering matching the fixstats to the skill migration? Let them expire at level 20, or give a flat amount. Keeping them at 30 days makes little sense to me, and the rush will still be there, even without skill migration.

Very big and very cool change for Prime, but even cooler for Premium. I just recently started taking advantage of the multiple character slots and made a new bard, but I only play her like 20-40 minutes a day and she’s only level 8 after two weeks. Definitely won’t get past 20 in the 30-day period, probably not even close to it, and I imagine it’s the same for a lot of Premium players who make new characters while juggling others that they’re more invested in. I’ll enjoy being able to put her Perception + Survival up to 2x every time she has a foraging bounty and then push it back down when done, etc., even in February and maybe March!

I do not do an entire change, like from one weapon to another or from swinging to casting. But I do smaller tweaks–not anything I plan to change in advance, but changes to decisions as I try things out. So this is probably I good change, though I still sort of miss the days when lower levels lasted longer.

I went back and discussed this with the rest of the development team and we have decided to extend the 5 free stat reallocates until level 20 too. This change should also work retroactively, so if you have unused stat reallocates and are still under level 20, you should be able to use them by checking in at your local inn.

My recollection was that inside the Character Manager @ the Inn, you had to specify multiple criteria at once (be it stat change or skill change).
So maybe for a skill, you are doing “10 +4” or “13 -5” or whatever; for stats it was something like “INF -17”.

.

It’s been a while since I did anything in the Inn, so I’m probably off on the specifics, but the gist of it was that you had to give multiple data in a single command.

Hitting levels 25+ in the first 30 days indicates someone playing nearly 18 hours a day, every day. Our old “average” time it takes to get to 25 is 725 hours. This isn’t including instantly absorbed experience or Lumnis. Obviously someone grinding hard won’t be near that average though.

Just wanted to point that out. Getting to level 28 on a F2P account in 30 days is actually extreme time-intensive.

Now I’m dusting him off again. The FIXSTAT really did it, though (because I’d done something rather silly with his), and I got to fix up my strange SHIELD skills (I never used those before, and I wasted a lot of points in skills that aren’t very good).

The character was originally rolled in 2007, if that makes a difference, and is also in Plat.

Am I out of luck, or was this a bug?
