Experts Think Ritual Worked To Stabilize Ta’Illistim. For now

Lyrna reports the ritual that the Mages and others used to try to stabilize Ta’Illistim is working – for now. There was a tainted gem used during the process, though…

Report of events of Feastday, the 25th day of Charlatos, in the year 5117.

Present: High Legionnaire Kakoon, Squire Legionnaire Lyrna
Lord Hairi, Brother of the Rooted Earth, Lady Nestrana, Sister of the Amber Flame,
Lord Ctarys, Brother of the Swirling Tempest
A variety of others including Heartfire, Xred, Eugenides, Linsha, Nestrana, Aaramon, Trilogi, Daenalan, Ellustriel, Naamit

Event: Stabilization of the Foundations of Ta’Illistim

Description and Comments:
We gathered at the base of the of Chaos tower in the western area of Ta’Illistim. It was explained that while they needed primarily earth and fire magics, general magic could be filtered and used. So even those of us with less magical inclination were able to help a little.
We were each to take a gem that had an affinity to the elements and they would pull the energy from us – use us and the gems as conduits for the magic. Attuned mages were to help the person of their specialty and the rest of us would provide general energy for them to pull through their crystals.
The only real hitch was the sorcerer? necromancer? Xred who used a tainted crystal and nearly caused the whole thing to fail. They said that it pulled away the good energy and was replacing it with corrupted energy. It was difficult to tell if it was intentional on his part or not.
After that issue was resolved, the rest of the ritual seemed to go well. They gathered the energy and it mixed and did all kinds of visually impressive things. They sent the energy into the earth and things seemed to settle down after a slight bit of rumbling.
Because of the interference to the ritual, they were unsure how successful they were, although things have undoubtedly improved for the time being.

Started around 8 and went until a little after 9. It was in the Tower of Chaos. If you were asking during that time, apologies for not seeing it!

OOC:

I was there during the stabilization as well; I left a few minutes early to return to my Silvergate Officers as we are working together for the upcoming Artisan Bazaar during Frontier Days.

I have a few observations and comments regarding this event; I noticed 3 other wizards besides myself, there may have been a 5th I did not notice and for that I apologize. When I read the announcement on this event it called for assistance from Earth, Fire and Water mages. But the event was clearly centered for Earth mages. I am a lightning mage – therefore my lore is Water and Air. I came over for a few reasons, there was a call out for wizards and that rarely happens, I own a home in Ta’Illistim and I head an MHO there as well; so I have a rooted connection to the town even as a Sylvan.

However, I felt almost excluded from the events. I must admit I was a bit insulted. I give credit that when I said in the beginning that I would take my leave because it seemed I was not needed; other PLAYERs asked me to stay to add my power to this ritual. I thank them for attempting to include this old mage.

But the coordinators of this event made little effort to include mages that were not Earth attuned; in fact I noticed them ask the Earth mages to stand behind them (crickets – none there were actually attuned Earth, at least not at that moment) and the other mages to stand behind those (second class citizens much?)! There were no Earth mages present as far as I could tell; aside from the Brothers and Sisters of the Earthroot; the only mages present were fire mages and myself and one mage that offered to attune on the spot to Earth.

I stated early that I was an Archmage. I didn’t expect to be the center of attention by any means but I did expect the wizards present would be acknowledged and asked to do something.

Sigh, I understand that Ta’Illistim is a fairly specific rp and that most who engage in this have long known each other. I am not one of the active town role players as I choose to spend my time working as Silvergate Inn’s chairperson, among other things.

But when a call is put out and it includes mages of other disciplines then I do believe those mages that show up should be an integral part of the event. They should be acknowledged and asked to step front and center as that would make sense in a ritual requiring wizards! All wizards have an affinity for Earth, Fire, Water, and Air – and that is something that was lost last night. A mage may attune to have a greater connection with one lore or another but ALL mages have power over every lore in some manner – as we all wield those spells whether or not trained their lore specifically.

I took exception to being made to feel like a lesser mage last night. If this event was just for those attuned to Earth then a call out for Fire and Water should not have been placed. Moreover, the GMs hosting last night made sure everyone in the room was joined to a party except me.

I don’t know what I ever did to them as I rarely, if ever, interacted with any of them in Illistim RP or if they were just acknowledging others who perhaps have been part of this storyline for awhile. But, if players who may generally RP with just those they know can at least extend an olive branch to newcomers…I expect the GMs to do the same. I am sorry if I sound harsh it just struck me like a slap in the face.

There were 14 people attending when I counted. 3 of them were GMs. I do not think the crowd was so overwhelming that a little attention to detail wasn’t warranted. I, a player, have run events with 50-over a 100 players and managed not to make anyone feel excluded. I have a high expectation of the same when there are 3 GMs in the room. That all present are acknowledged and made to feel they can freely participate in a ritual, event, etc if a call out is placed for those type of players! That they come and have something to do even if it is as simple as place a hand on a rock or some such.

I was aggravated, as you can probably clearly tell. I am not normally a confrontational person or a person who wants to get involved in any sort of rp, town, etc politics. I was simply a player who saw something that might be fun and cool and wanted to join in. But instead of finding something fun and cool I felt diminished. That is not cool.

Rohese was not part of the stabilization of Ta’Illistim event last night for two reasons, (a) it was too late for me, and more significantly (b) she isn’t a mage. That said, I am trying to participate in a way that is more befitting her RP style and you are more than welcome to join in! If you’d like to help with our fundraising activities, either drop Roh a letter to indicate you’re interested, or grab me in game if that’s easiest.

Rohese darling,

As ever, you are a sweet voice among the chaos. I would be delighted to help you in any manner. I also noted that you might be in search of a venue for your fundraising activities. You are more than welcome to have use of Stormwild Hall. It is just outside the Postern Gate and therefore, should, in theory, be safe from the town’s travails. Be ye well dear friend.

By my hand,

High Lady Katara Stormwild
Lady of the Manor
Silvergate Inn
High Lady of Stormwild Hall

OOC: Rohese, sweetie, anything you may need I shall always endeavor to assist. I must admit, I am a bit soured on Ta’Illistim RP but that was not the fault of any citizen or friend of the town. I will do what I can for your fundraising. Hugs.

OOC:
Katara,
I was also not a part of a group. I think a few people were, but I didn’t get the impression that was the norm. The whole ‘stand in three circles’ seemed to be a RP thing and had nothing to do with anything.
To be honest I was surprised that I WAS included (I was just there in case something went wrong) since Lyrna is barely a spellcaster (10 ranks in minor elemental, while a fairly good focus for a mid-level rogue.. er, locksmith.. is hardly particularly magically inclined). I was surprised that there was no need for us to do anything – share mana (I’d have been in trouble), do something with the gemstones… SOMETHING. It basically felt like “boxed text” from the standpoint of our participation – no-one actually needed to do anything. The only one that had something different was the one who was disruptive – that hardly seems like a thing to encourage though. For all that we were ‘needed to draw mana from’, the ritual didn’t actually take any of our mana even.
I wasn’t surprised that I didn’t have anything to do, I hadn’t expected to. I had thought there would be some reason for the mages to be there other than to stand around and look pretty. Which you all did great with!! I honestly had assumed a little that there was something going with the more magically inclined that I simply wasn’t privy to. I’m sorry that there wasn’t. I see exactly where you’re coming from.

Dearest Rohese:

I have had the opportunity to exchange missives with some of the mages spearheading the stabilization and any misunderstandings between us have been resolved. I am writing to insist that you call upon me or upon Stormwild Hall for anything you may need in your formidable effort to assist the citizens of the Shining City. My dear, the Hall and I are at your disposal.

May the gods smile upon us.

OOC: I am grateful to Valyrka for reaching out and clearing a few things up with me. All is good and I hope to be able to poke my head back into this fascinating rp one of these days.
