Got a wrench-turning, gears ‘n sprockets oil-lover on your Thrakmas list?

Serviceable, yet RP-enhanced.

You see Mikos.
He appears to be a Burghal Gnome.
He is short and appears to be advanced in years.
He is in good shape.
He is wearing a riveted dragon’s head burgonet formed of bronzed vultite plates, a pair of bronzed vultite gauntlets constructed of overlapping plates, an articulated breastplate of interlaced bronzed vultite plates, and a pair of bronzed vultite boots formed of overlapping plates.

You turn the small knob on the right side of the breastplate and hear the “click, click, click” of the clockwork’s pawl as the power spring is wound.
Roundtime: 2 sec.

Your breastplate whirrs softly…
A series of whirrs and clicks emanate from your breastplate as hinged vanes unfold, struts extend, and a myriad of tiny metal plates and scales deploy to encase your arms and legs within a layer of bronzed vultite platemail.
Roundtime: 5 sec.

You tap a set of bronzed vultite platemail formed of interleaved plates that you are wearing.

>twist burgon
Aligning the bronze collar at the base of the burgonet with the neck of the platemail, you turn it a quarter-turn and hear a solid CLICK.

>twist gaunt
Aligning the bronze cuffs at the base of the gauntlets with the cuffs of the platemail, you turn them a quarter-turn and hear a solid CLICK.

>twist boot
Aligning the bronze collars at the tops of the boots with the bottom of the platemail’s leggings, you turn them each a quarter-turn and hear a solid CLICK.

Your platemail whirrs softly…
The whirring of tiny gears and the clicking of pawls emanates from your platemail as it comes to life.

Nope, it’s not. A burghal just seemed the most natural to model it.

It is very much Half Plate, though. Even when it looks like a breastplate.

That was the original design, but coping with the wearer’s potential interactions with worn items and pets would have been problematic, and the necessary adjustments to various magical effects wasn’t even seriously examined. Coping with healing and death would be another whole can of worms, although I suppose if the wearer died while encased in an exoskeleton we could just hang a timed effect on them so that they’d start to smell after a short while.

No, it’s always Half Plate. Adding the helm, gauntlets and boots just bumps up the crit-padding value when it’s turned on. Turned off it’s regular Half Plate.

Yep, that’s it, when the armor’s turned on.

Someone encased in a mechanical suit isn’t the same as an illusion. That’s why all of the aforementioned design issues meant it wouldn’t have worked well if it had been built that way.

Since it ws a repulsor, and therefor should be a straight force vector, I never understood why it made a vapor contrail, in the movies.

It’s not like it should be ejecting reaction mass. (Although that in turn calls into question how it worked in space/at the NYC invasion in Avengers, since “nothing TO repulse” issues…)
